Introduction
Competetion Floating Pavilion on the Drava River
Surrounded by the Pohorje Massif in the south and the Kalvarija, Piramida, Meljski Hrib and Mestni Hrib Hills in the north, the city of Maribor is marked by the great Drava River, which visibly divides the city into two riverbanks, connected by several bridges. The city itself is comprised of clearly distinguishable historic sections: the old medieval city centre, industrial zones as well as pre- and post-war modernist interventions. Historically, THE DRAVA RIVER FIRST SERVED AS A TRANSPORT ROUTE, ENSURING ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES.The function of trading activities had taken place following the direction of the river – downstream. In addition, the Drava River played an IMPORTANT ROLE IN THE INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT. TIMBER HARVESTED in the Pohorje Massif. 1 As a result, the river no longer serves as a transport route. RAFTING IS NOW IMPORTANT FROM AN ETHNOGRAPHIC POINT OF VIEW AND AS A TOURIST ATTRACTION.
Concept
The idea behind the forming of the floating pavilion on the Drava River is related to the rich history of rafting in Maribor. RAFTING WAS A CRUCIAL ECONOMIC ACTIVITY, WHICH CONTRIBUTED TO THE PROSPEROUS DEVELOPMENT. The river itself was thus attributed different importance. With the construction of hydropower plants along the Drava River, the river has become an energy asset, as its flow rate, banks and regulations have been entirely subject to the production of electrical energy.2 Nowadays the rafting is still being a hostage to guests and tourists on the Drava river, just like the historical shape and view of the city, it is preserving its shape. However more in the commercial function rather than trading over cities. The shape and the form of floating pavilion is taken by the shade over the seats area on the rafting to improve the design and help the tradition for being a leading city for the arts and culture, to hold festivals. In the following the design features will be introduced.
3- HOSTAGE: The pavilion is primarily intended to serve as a venue for smaller events and shows. The small stage will particularly serve its purpose during the Lent Festival in June as an additional performance stage. 4- DIRECTION: Separate route and way for the stage and sitting areas, as having less distraction for each.

2- The form is not external, it is independent — a container that some artists imagined arbitrarily, stood together, and labeled it.
The floating construction can be moved easily to another location by the river (if required) and be adapted quickly to different programs.

5- VIEWPOINT & CONNECTION: A relaxation site, offering views of the river and the historic city center with a distinguish boarder between the sitting area and the performance stage. Ensures a better connection between the elevated Lent riverbank and the river and, consequently, invite people closer to the river, alongside with the concept of rafting design, sitting area under a shed on the stage on Drava river.
6- The lightings on the pavilion at nights for festivals, a new asset to Maribor specially at night as a new offer and invite to Drava river at night.
Structure The floating pavilion form concludes from the rafting concept and the sustainability according to the construction and sociology policies. The stage itself is an as built form of metal and timber flooring. The timber systematic structure of the pavilion consists of a total 8*8 timber truss and load bearing walls. In order of usage of the sunlight and protection of the rain a light glass frame being designed on top of the timber truss. Consequently for having less weight of the pavilion on the stage, it is designed by non-massive coverings and columns to hold the upper structure with a squre light on the beneath surface of each timber structure. The generator under the flooring in the stage structure provides the low voltage for the lightings. Beams have welded connection. The load-bearing walls along with the boarding function are supplied for the semi closed space of the sitting areas by stimulating a peaceful space and comfort zone for wine tasting, and eventually a closer connection with Drava river, with the possibility of allocating the ports for movement on river with maximum 45 degrees rotation.

Lent is famous for having the oldest recorded live grape tree in the world (about 400 years old). Wine is a very important part of the region and they are proud of their vines and the resulting wines.

“Head to the riverfront and the Lent area. HERE OF COURSE IS THE LEGENDARY OLD VINE AND THE OLD VINE HOUSE. The wine routes in all directions around Maribor will entice you to hit the road and perhaps stay a night or two at a tourist farm where you can sample the local fare and see how they really take pride in their home-made wines.“3 The story of one great inspiration for making the space of the floating pavilion. Head to the riverfront on top of the stage, under the timber truss, a reminder of the old story of the environment around Maribor and the tourist farms. The contribution of the timber structure, the design, and of the sunlight and its reflection, would provide a vague shape of branches on the pavilion for the comfort zone, that help the visitor to fade into a vine tree.
