A singular masterwork of de Kooning’s oeuvre, Untitled, circa 1979, is from a remarkable period of work for the artist, marked by a bold and assured stroke. A luminous forest of sloping, saturated forms, Nicolas Party’s Landscape reenergizes the landscape genre, constructing its own uncanny universe of bold hues and enveloping natural forms stripped of extraneous detail. Known for immersive and colorsaturated work, Swiss-born artist Nicolas Party manipulates the familiar language of traditional genres to produce complex and layered atmospheres, transforming the natural world into abstract biomorphic shapes. Landscape’s hues pulsate with chromatic energy, contrast a brilliant forest against the deep midnight sky and give rise to a surreal, mythical mood.

Possessing the balance and harmony that drove Mondrian to create the most daring compositions of the twentieth century, Composition No. II from 1930 represents the pinnacle of Mondrian’s mature style. Here, the artist’s signature grid abstraction and geometric composition are on full display; this work is further distinguished by the large red square form occupying the upper right quadrant. Works by Mondrian that have a predominance of the color red are exceptionally rare within his oeuvre; it is one of only three paintings to feature the dominant red square at the upper right.

HENRY MOORE “RECLINING FIGURE: FESTIVAL”
Henry Moore was regarded as one of Britain’s greatest living artists and leading sculptors of post-war modernism. Reclining Figure: Festival was commissioned as the focal point of the 1951 Festival of Britain. Moore decided to work up his model with the more flexible material of plaster – where he previously carved wood and stone – and then casted it in bronze. Although considered a radical departure at the time, the new materials allowed him to fully explore the balance between solid and void, revealing an activation of negative space within the confines of the figure itself.

WILLEM DE KOONING “COLLAGE”
Collage is not just a dazzling example of the visceral power of abstraction in de Kooning’s hands, it is also an entirely unique example of a work that captures a critical aspect of his practice. Throughout the 1940s and 50s, de Kooning would use a collage technique for his compositions, tracing shapes onto paper and arranging them in various ways across a painting’s surface. Here, though, he did not remove these layered elements, making for a richly textured surface that is built up in layers of paper, paint, charcoal and even scattered silver thumbtacks.

Over the past decade, collecting significant cars has evolved into an exercise in connoisseurship, on par with collecting fine art – a pursuit that predates the invention of the automobile. This niche market was forever changed in 2015 when RM, an esteemed leader in the investment-quality collector car market, formed a strategic partnership with Sotheby’s, one of the world’s oldest and most respected auction houses. RM Sotheby’s established the largest client network of any collector-car auction house in the world — and is the largest by total sales.
One of RM Sotheby’s most exciting live auctions of 2022 was its 23rd annual Arizona sale at the Biltmore in Phoenix. The one-day auction totaled $43.3 million in sales, with
95% of all lots sold with registered bidders from 30 different countries. The 1931 Duesenberg Model J Tourster (pictured at right), one of the most iconic of all American cars of its era, drew crowds during preview days before it was sold. Bidders came from 38 different countries and cars arrived from nine different countries for Monterey Car Week 2022, where the 1998 McLaren (pictured at left) was purchased.

For decades, the McLaren F1 has remained the fastestever naturally aspirated car and has earned its status as an automotive legend, designed to be the greatest road-going automobile ever built, regardless of cost. The McLaren F1 was the first car built with active aerodynamics, gold to reflect heat in the engine bay, and a modem system so the car could communicate with technicians back at the factory to diagnose problems remotely. The F1 reflects an exclusive club of owners and drivers, achieving something millions of enthusiasts can only dream of but few have ever achieved.

The Tourster was Gordon Buehrig’s favorite Duesenberg. Eight original examples were built in-period; all eight survive, have been restored, and remain well cared for in some of the world’s most prominent private collections. The exclusive builder of the Tourster design was the Derham Body Company of Rosemont, Pennsylvania, the favored coachbuilder of the Philadelphia aristocracy. J-448 has been among the most successful Model Js in modern concours competition, known as “the car to beat” for over a decade. It remains in excellent, show-ready condition throughout, and bears ACD Club Category 1 Certification.

GUIDING LIGHT
A beacon of hope, the Sanibel Lighthouse stands strong — welcoming a new day in paradise.
Since 1884, the Sanibel Lighthouse has been perched on the eastern tip of its barrier island, greeting millions of visitors and serving as a beautiful backdrop to a world-famous beach and shelling mecca. Originally built to provide guidance for 19thcentury travelers along the Gulf Coast, it served as a watch point for U-boats during World War II, was managed by the U.S. Coast Guard until 2000, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is an iconic landmark in Southwest Florida, one so deeply embedded in the island’s history that not even a Category 4 hurricane could wash it away.
In September 2022, Hurricane Ian ravaged Sanibel, damaging homes, businesses and roadways — even collapsing a portion of the Sanibel Causeway. Miraculously, the lighthouse was spared. While the two keeper's dwellings and the oil house were swept out to sea, the tower itself remained structurally sound. With the exception of some damage to the support legs, the lighthouse still stands; an enduring
symbol of resilience lighting the way for Sanibel’s recovery.
POWER TO THE PEOPLE
In the months following the hurricane, the brightest light was reflected in Sanibel’s people: friends, neighbors and business owners who came together to help one another rebuild. Premier Sotheby’s International Realty and its global advisors are proud to be longtime members of this community and are fortunate to have opened the Sanibel office with the purpose of supporting those working in the area. FEMA set up its Starlink WiFi trailer near the office, allowing the brokerage to open its doors to the public as an available drop-in workplace for those needing a computer with a fast Wi-Fi connection or a cool, safe, and clean place to work for a few hours; refreshments and encouragement were also included.
While there is still so much work to be done, hope lies in the relentless island spirit — and the lighthouse that guides it.
