each percussion part is self contained, the notation ranging from low to high. While selecting their respective instrumental groupings, the players should choose individual instruments of varying timbre and range, avoiding all duplication of timbre and range. Each player will also require a variety of sticks, beaters, etc the use of which is indicated in the playing parts. The chimes should be placed between percussion 2 and 3, player 2 having access to the natural side, player 3 to the accidentals.

Measures marked "Rapido possible" are ad lib measures. During these "breaks" the player improvises for the duration given, playing the family of instruments and dynamics specified, going as rapidly as possible from one instrument to another.

Percussion 1 requires a tape recorder for a pre-recorded taped section.
