MACT Square Slum is located near MANIT Square adjacent to the MANIT institution Bhopal. A portion of the Slum has already been redeveloped though it has failed to accommodate the entire population and as a matter of fact, only half of the population has been rehabilitated. Currently, the site is facing problems like population growth, deteriorating living conditions, security and safety problems, economical deterioration etc. This Project has tried to address these issues and Redeveloped the site as a whole.

Proposed Zoning
Memories of the inhabitants are associated with the existing open spaces and the public spaces such as temples, schools and socializing spaces. This proposal attempts to retain them and design the built spaces around them. The provision of a market space has been considered as a medium for economical sustenance of the community. Emphasis on accommodating informal activities has also been given.

1 BHK Unit Cluster Many iterations to the 30 sq.m unit finally led to a module that served the requirements of a family belonging to the economically weaker section. The dwelling units can be arranged around a courtyard and then the blocks can be repeated along a path way to create a cluster of housing spaces.

Of Repression and Expression Bharat Bhavan 2020, uni.xyz Design Competition | 2020 Category : Art Gallery Location: Ranchi, Jharkhand Group Project|Eish, Ipsita Choudhury, Pranjal Maheshwari
Jharkhand has a rich cultural history spanning from Sohrai paintings, Jhumur and Chhau dance to Patachitra, basket weaving, and pottery. What precedes and supersedes expression, in this case, is a collective identity. One that celebrates freedom and fights for it when called for, as exemplified by the Santhal Rebellion. The Tribal Art and Identity appear to lose ground to modern cities as they move towards a universal character. Bharat Bhavan is thus an opportunity to revive the lost arts and traditions indigenous to the state. Located at the Tagore Hill, Ranchi, The proposal Intends to reflect upon the socio-political culture of Jharkhand. The gallery spaces unfold an interpretation of the state’s historical identity as they transition from an experience of freedom to repression to liberty. The proposal aims to serve as a medium of expression for the universal population and stay reminiscent of the locals’ heritage and identity.

Of Order and Chaos ANDC, NASA Design Competition | 2020 Category : Community Centre Location: Gangasagar, West Bengal Group Project|Abhinav, Anubhav, Eish, Palak
Gangasagar Mela sees the congregation of two million people every year who take part in a three day ceremonial bathing at the Ganges. This massive gathering makes Gangasagar Mela the second largest mega fair in the world. Due to its cultural significance, the island is constantly in a state of flux. At peaks of influx, the transit systems at the island fail. At the heart of this is the Kachuberia Bus Terminus. Infrastructural failure at Kachuberia leads to a disarrayed urban-scape. The pandemic, added on top, limits tourism to a great extent cutting down Gangasagar’s primary source of revenue. The program therefore intends to set up a conjunct system of transit through necessary infrastructural interventions and envisions communal resilience through through economic sustenance.

Of Conflicts and Harmony Sacred Architecture, Archdais Design Competition | 2020 Category : Community Centre Location: Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh Group Project|Abhinav Ramesan, Taruna Aiyyar
The chosen site lies in a torn and battered land; once a home for all, now a reminder of the deep wound inflicted upon the people that left them disintegrated and scattered. The city and surrounding farmlands of Muzaffarnagar are a land scarred by the horrors of communal strife. A community which once was united across religious lines since independence was shattered, and hasn’t recovered since. Famously known for its sugarcane cultivation where the interdependent communities worked together is currently struggling to even harvest their produce. A sense of betrayal and distrust persists to this day, especially among the thousands forced to flee their homes.

The Pathways are enclosed by high walls. Each and every pathway is connected to each other at the centre. Provision of Hidden courtyards has also been made in-between spaces. The central courtyard is a large open area that works as a community area with well-shaded arcades at the periphery. It’s a space where people from the community can gather for group activities, social support and even celebrate local festivals.

Here’s a semi-circle amidst a farmland Of a fractured people An entrance with a multitude of paths that go different places. Some lead to fulfillment a few to togetherness, and the rest to contemplation. But all these paths terminate at one place; a place where people pray, sit, look at the water play, dance, sing some music, a place where the community heals, a place where humanity is sacred.

WORKING DRAWING Semester v, 2020 Academic project | Individual Category : Residential project Location: Raghurajpur, Odisha This project speaks to the contemporary Socio-cultural identity of Odisha. A Clustered courtyard pattern has been followed while designing the residence. The spatial arrangement is specifically directed to traverse amidst the open areas, blurring the boundaries between the built and unbuilt. A central linear corridor along the courtyard connects all the spaces together, which addresses the architectural characteristics present in Raghurajpur.

PICKY EATERS Productive Urbanism NASA GSEN Trophy | 2021 Location: Ghazipur Landfill, Delhi Group Project Located at the edge of Delhi, Ghazipur is home to the city’s largest wholesale food markets. Selling vegetables, flowers, poultry, fish and mutton to the rest of the city, it is a vital part of Delhi’s food supply chain. These markets directly employ the residences next to them. Ghazipur, however, is more famously identified by its monstrous garbage dump looming in the background. The proposal aims to turn this Centre of the city’s food supplies into a neighborhood that would be able to independently sustain its occupants in times of a break in the supply chain. It also seeks to slowly convert the landfill on a time-scale large enough to enable the drift of the rag-picker community towards formalized employment.
