HEAD COACH EZRA HENDRICKSON “EZRA KNOWS WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR, KNOWS WHAT IT TAKES TO PLAY AT THIS LEVEL, AND HE PROVIDES A GREAT BRIDGE FROM S2 TO THE SOUNDERS FC FIRST TEAM.” -SOUNDERS FC HEAD COACH SIGI SCHMID
Ezra Hendrickson was announced as an assistant coach on January 20, 2009, after completing a 14-year professional career, including 12 seasons in Major League Soccer. He is now the head coach of Sounders FC 2, the club’s USL team.

Hendrickson played parts of eight seasons for Sounders FC Head Coach Sigi Schmid, including three in Columbus prior to his retirement. Hendrickson appeared in 266 regular season matches with 225 starts. Playing defense, he scored 23 goals and added 30 assists.
Hendrickson went to Dallas in 2003 and began the next season with the A-League’s Charleston Battery before joining D.C. United for its run to the 2004 MLS Cup. After starting all 31 appearances in 2005 for expansion Chivas USA, Hendrickson was acquired by Columbus in early 2006.
He also played in 32 postseason games with five goals and three assists. Hendrickson was a member of three MLS Cup championship teams, winning two with Schmid. Together, they won the 2002 MLS Cup with the Los Angeles Galaxy and the 2008 MLS Cup in Columbus. Hendrickson was also with the champion D.C. United team in 2004.
An All-American and business administration major at Drake University, Hendrickson first played professionally with New Orleans of the USISL Select League (1995-96). After earning his first international cap in 1995, he served 12 years as captain of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines national team.

Lawal, but eventually give up a late game-winner to drop the match by a score of 4-3. In the following seven league matches, S2 has gone 3-2-2 and jumped to the top of the USL Western Conference table, while Tulsa has gone 2-3-1. Although in 11th place, Tulsa is only three points shy of being above the playoff line, and will be hungry for a victory that could put the team back in the mix as the season’s halfway point draws near. “This is going to be a good test for us. When we played them last, it was our first away game and we were still learning how to play on the road,” said S2 forward Andy Craven. “We could have come out with a win as high-scoring as that game was, and getting the chance to bring them to our home field is
WHO TO WATCH New S2 signing Sérgio has already proven his worth in the S2 midfield as a creator. In his first match with the Rave Green, he sent a long ball forward to Andy Craven for his first assist with the club. Along with Duncan McCormick, Andrés Correa and Amadou Sanyang, Orange County Blues FC struggled to move the ball through midfield as the Sounders recorded a 1-1 draw on the road.
going to be good for us to show them how we play.” Craven sat out last Saturday’s match against Orange County Blues FC along with defender Damion Lowe. The two have been staples to the S2 starting XI throughout the season, and the team will count on their return to the lineup. The success in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup that S2 has experienced has contributed to the influx of games for the Rave Green, meaning the ranks have been thinned as players rest and
recover. However, with a full week of training without an extra match, the team should be fit going into tonight’s meeting. The S2 forwards in particular will have a test in Tulsa goalkeeper Zac Lubin. The Sounders FC U-23 and Kitsap Pumas SC alum leads the USL in saves with 45, and is second in saves per game with 4.5. The keeper made six saves against S2 in the last meeting, stopping a penalty that proved to be crucial to the one-goal margin Tulsa would take the victory with.

ANDY CRAVEN IS CARVING OUT A PLACE IN SOUNDERS FC 2 HISTORY, AND DOING IT WITH STYLE Story by Branden Grifith

hen Andy Craven joined Sounders FC 2, he came from being one the top collegiate soccer players in the country. The NCAA leading goal-scorer and finalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy, Craven hasn’t missed a beat since moving across the country to join the Rave Green. The St. Simons Island, Georgia native leads S2 in assists (4) and is tied with Sounders FC Homegrown Player Darwin Jones for the team-lead in goals (5).
“Even though it’s our first year as a team, our familiarity with each other is really coming together,” said Craven. “It takes a lot of teams several years to get to where we are, but this team has

adapted quickly and as time goes on, we are going to see that growth because we are still new. We are hungry to win, and with all that combined, it contributes to a good product on the field.”
A good product on the field is exactly what the young team has created. S2 currently sits in first place in the USL Western Conference, remains a perfect 5-0-0 at home (7-0-0 across all competitions) and has advanced through two rounds of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, earning a place in the Fourth Round against MLS side Real Salt Lake. This is all while balancing a fluctuating roster that includes First Team, S2-specific and Sounders FC Academy players. “Seeing how these young guys perform
in these games has been a testament to what we have in this program and our academy,” said S2 Head Coach Ezra Hendrickson. “It lets me know that our future is bright and that we have young players that are capable of going out and performing.” At 23 years old, Craven is by no means a veteran of the league, but his cool and calm composure has already earned him the captain’s armband once this season. “Andy is a staple in the locker room; guys look up to him and listen to him,” said Hendrickson. “He is a natural leader, which is good to see a young player take on that role in his first year. I look forward to great things from him being a part of the
Sounders’ future for a long time to come.” At the rate Craven is producing for S2 now, he’ll start force his way into consideration for the First Team. For now though, the forward is looking to the Open Cup match against RSL as the next big test. “It’s an incredible opportunity to be able to face an MLS squad,” said Craven. “If we can stay healthy and continue our winning ways, we can go into that game confident. We just need to play our game and not conform to how an older and better team might want to dictate play. We are fighters and we are excited to get the chance to do that at the next level.”
