BATTLE! Friday 17th November 2006 St Johns Primary School, Grantham Road, Bracebridge Heath, Lincoln.

An extraordinary performance featuring music, songs and dance that have been devised and taught as part of an Early Music pilot project for Lincolnshire.

This extraordinary performance is the culmination of a ground breaking Early Music pilot project for Lincolnshire. Three experienced musicians from the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment have worked with over one hundred and thirty children and young people in two hectic weeks of workshops, coaching sessions and a lecture/recital. The musicians, supported by class teachers and soundLINCS music facilitators, have used the historic and dramatic context of Battle Warfare within 15th and 16th century Europe as a starting point for creating original music & musical instruments, costume, song and movement. Four schools have participated in the project: St. Johns Primary School, Bracebridge Heath “The year 3 children have thoroughly enjoyed learning the dance, particularly developing their sense of rhythm and pulse.” Zoe Cook, Year 3 Class Teacher. “The children have been highly motivated and we have all thoroughly enjoyed the activities.” Kay Ingamells, Year 6 Class Teacher. Heighington Millfield Primary School “The BATTLES project has inspired the children at Millfield, in my class I have been inundated with the Terrible Tudors!. The children have gained so much from participating; not only the history, music and dance but also the way in which they have been able to use their imagination and develop their listening, thinking and cooperation skills. The professional musicians leading the project have approached the children in a very mature way and the children have responded superbly. My only negative comment would be that there hasn’t been enough time! “ June Kay, Year 3 Class Teacher. Washingborough Foundation Primary School “The project has been wonderful, The children particularly enjoyed the trumpet making and playing and have given their parents ear ache whilst decorating them!! I think the real pleasure will come from the performance as they haven't experienced anything like that before.” Michelle Barron, Year 6 Class Teacher. The Priory LSST, Lincoln “This is a fabulous opportunity for students at The Priory LSST to explore new music and interact with musicians of great experience, knowledge and ability. Each student has devised their own role in the project and has found opportunities to grow as musicians and as individuals”. Andy Terry, Music Teacher.
