Time Code Option This optional module provides the Fireface with a LTC and video synchronization input, and an additional LTC output. The TCO not only extracts absolute positions from LTC, but thanks to SteadyClockTM also a very clean low-jitter word clock from LTC and video. Thus a sample accurate timecode synchronization to audio or video sources is assured. The received Time Code can be sent to the audio or video application as ASIO Positioning Protocol (APP) or MTC.

19-inch half-rack products. All inputs and outputs can be freely mixed, routed, and distributed with RME´s TotalMix software. Up to 9 totally independent stereo submixes can be set up. Every output channel, and every submix channel can be recorded directly and without external cable loops. TotalMix can be completely MIDI remote controlled. The DSP-based hardware calculates RMS and Peak levels for all channels, without causing any significant CPU load. Eight analog inputs and outputs (all balanced, except outputs 7/8) with software controlled reference levels (-10 dBV, +4 dBu, Lo/HiGain), realized discretely in the analog domain, ensure highest dynamic range and fidelity. The Fireface 400 features 2 balanced microphone inputs with a digitally controlled input stage, individually switchable 48V phantom power, and Neutrik Combo connectors for XLR and TRS. These can also be used as additional line inputs. A pre-amplification of up to 65 dB (adjustable in 1 dB-steps over a range of 55 dB), exceptional EIN (Equivalent Input Noise) performance even at low pre amplification settings, and extremely low THD+N let these preamps surpass many reference devices. All level settings are 100% reproducible and can also be comfortably adjusted by software. Inputs 3 and 4 are flexible universal balanced inputs. They operate exactly like inputs 5 to 8 on the rear and can be adjusted to accept standard studio input levels (+4 dBu, LoGain). The input impedance can be switched from line (10 kOhm) to instrument (470 kOhm), and offers an additional analog

SPDIF can also be accessed through the optical I/O. Inputs 5 to 8 on the rear feature RME‘s proven level references, -10 dBV, +4 dBu and Lo Gain can be selected in the settings dialog, equivalent to +2 dBV, +13 dBu and +19 dBu for digital full scale. The same applies to the balanced rear analog outputs 1 to 6. The hi-power phones output offers high volumes even with low-impedance headphones. The Fireface 400 is flexible when it comes to power supply. Besides the Bus-powering option the included switching power supply accepts voltages from 100 to 240 Volts, and can be operated all over the world. Of course the Fireface 400 offers a second FireWire port for hub functionality. Several devices can be connected to one FireWire interface and operated in parallel. A Word Clock input and output plus two MIDI I/Os (special breakout cable included) complete the list of features and turn the Fireface 400 into an entire audio system of the highest quality.

HDSP PCI Card
PCI interface for
desktop computers
In the year 2001 RME started a revolution in mobile audio recording: the HDSP System, consisting of a PCI or CardBus card plus an external I/O-box has been the world’s first audio system, operating at both desktop and laptop. And the world’s first professional multitrack system for notebooks at all. Today we are proud to look

popularity among the users. Multiface II Based on the legendary Hammerfall PCI core with its innovative zero CPU load technology, the RME PCI core developed for Digiface, Multiface and RPM, is optimized for even higher performance. Thanks to the latest chip technology, internal hi-speed RAM can be used faster and more efficient than external SRAM. The PCI engine of the Hammerfall DSP System is built on a Zero wait state PCI Busmaster core. With up to 130 MB/s transfer rate in both directions the maximum performance available on the 32 bit PCI bus is used. Additionally the card offers highest compatibility by being 100% Plug & Play compatible under Windows and Mac OS, and being able to share interrupts. The card itself will only use one interrupt (IRQ) for all functions (audio/MIDI). The connection between PCI card and I/O box is established using ordinary FireWire cable (IEEE 1394, 6-pin). The data transfer does not use FireWire protocol, but RME’s own bus protocol. The supplied cable is 4 m (12 ft.) in length. The PCI card operates as power supply for the attached I/O-box.
Features PCI and CardBus Card ▪ Hammerfall hardware design: organized in 32 bit ASIO double buffers, data transmission rates up to 130 MByte/sec ▪ ASIO in hardware! 0 (zero!)% CPU load even with all channels active ▪ Automatic hardware self test at power up ▪ Hardware update via software (virtual EPROM update) ▪ Secure BIOS Technology - prevents the card from becoming unusable should the flash process fail ▪ Complete interrupt sharing ▪ “State of the art” PC and Mac drivers, constantly updated, also for Win and Mac 64 bit operating systems

performance laptop computers can meet virtually any challenge presented by even the most demanding audio recording and processing applications. But, the overall performance depends largely on the audio interface used. RME‘s Hammerfall DSP System has been the world‘s first PCI-based high performance mobile audio system. Even FireWire 400 or USB 2.0 -based interfaces can neither deliver the same bandwidth nor the desired compatibility. For the HDSP System RME has developed a worldwide exclusive PCMCIA type II card with Zero Waitstate CardBus Busmaster technology. With up to 130 MB/s transfer rate both ways it can provide the same performance on a notebook as a PCI-card would offer on a desktop computer. This is partly down to perfect Plug & Play compatibility on Windows and MacOS based portable computers, and interrupt sharing capability that uses only one interrupt (IRQ) for all audio and MIDI functions. As the CardBus card does not provide power to the attached I/O-box, it comes with a compact professional switching power supply. A car battery cable is also included for additional mobile applications.
Specifications HDSP PCI Card / CardBus Card ▪▪ PCI Card: Short PCI 2.0 compliant PCI-card (32 bit, PCI-X compatible) ▪▪ CardBus Card: PCMCIA type II, 32 bit CardBus card ▪▪ Zero Waitstate PCI Busmaster interface (130 MB/s transfer rate both ways) ▪▪ Output: IEEE 1394 connector (RME protocol)

The box connects 2 x 8 XLR connectors with two 25-pin D-sub connectors, working basically like two breakout cables. All 16 XLR connectors can be connected to the 19” rack mount unit instead of a usual multicore breakout cable, preventing cable chaos, errors and connection problems. BOB-32 is pin compatible to the digital TASCAM (=RME) and Yamaha formats. Therefore it is a perfect partner for the HDSP(e) AES-32 and many other units having digital audio D-sub I/Os. Flip-Frame. The BOB-32 allows to change rack brackets and handles from front to rear and thus to change XLR or D-sub from front to rear as well. This way a BOB will perfectly fit in every rack and working situation. Revolutionary new option: Simply fold the case in the middle to arrange both sides to one side. All connectors appear on front or rear only, as a two height unit within the rack.

synchronization module
The TCO module is an optional extension for selected RME cards. Placed in a free slot of the computer chassis the TCO will be connected with the HDSPe card via a flat ribbon cable. The small module adds a Word Clock input to the HDSPe card, and offers a synchronization to LTC and video. The TCO has a combined switchable Word Clock/Video input (BNC) as well as an LTC input (BNC). The Word Clock / Video input can comfortably be terminated (relay-controlled) with a 75 Ohm terminator from the card’s Settings dialog. The TCO also features an additional LTC output (BNC) with two level settings (configurable via jumper). Thanks to SteadyClock, the TCO not only extracts absolute positions from LTC, but also a very

clean low-jitter word clock from LTC and video. Thus a sample accurate timecode synchronization to audio or video sources is assured. LTC can be derived and generated in all common formats, i.e. 24, 25, 30, and 29.97 frames; drop-frame or non-drop-frame. Commonly used Pull-Up and Pull-Down Formats (+/- 0.1% and +/- 4%) can be utilized, and PAL and NTSC video formats will be automatically detected and processed. The received Time Code can be sent to the audio or video application as ASIO Positioning Protocol (APP) or MTC. An application can send APP or MTC to the TCO, which will generate LTC on hardware level with lowest jitter (no software/driver routine). Several fly-wheel functions facilitate chase operation (adjustable drop-out length, Continuous- or Jam-Sync). One single TCO can be used with different HDSPe cards at the same time, if connected to a supported card.

AI4S-192 and AO4S-192 4-Channel analog I/O modules with 192 kHz support HDSP 9632 / HDSPe AIO
These option cards for the HDSP 9632 and HDSPe AIO are analog expansion boards,
designed as bracket with 4 stereo TRS jacks each. AI4S-192 provides four servobalanced inputs, AO4S-192 provides four servo-balanced outputs. With this a maximum of 6 (including the stereo I/O of the card) inputs and/or outputs on the HDSPe AIO can be achieved. The converters offer the same performance as the on-board stereo analog I/O: up to 192 kHz, balanced connection and the choice of three different reference levels, selected in the Settings dialog. Both modules can be used single or in combination. The display of the channels in TotalMix changes accordingly.
TEB TDIF Expansion Board HDSP 9632 / 9652 and HDSPe RayDAT / AIO
The optional module adds an 8-Channel TDIF interface
to all ADAT-capable RME cards. Special features include manual choice of clock reference, status LEDs and a TDIF word clock output. The TEB is designed for maximum flexibility. Used with the HDSPe RayDAT, AIO and HDSP 9652, it can even be used at sample rates of 88.2 kHz and 96 kHz. Meeting the TDIF specification, Double Line mode uses two channels in single speed to get one channel in Double Speed. Therefore at 88.2/96 kHz up to 4 channels are available. The integrated Clock Select Switch selects the TDIF reference clock, thus avoids any clocking problems even with problematic TDIF devices.
WCM Word Clock Module HDSP 9632 / HDSPe RayDAT / AIO
The 9632 Word Clock Module provides a galvanically iso-lated word clock
input and two word clock outputs (BNC connectors). Both outputs have their own driver stages, providing an extremely low jitter signal. A push switch activates 75 Ohms termination for the hi-impedance input. SteadyClock, part of the PCI card, guarantees an excellent performance in all clock modes. Its highly eďŹƒcient jitter suppression refreshes and cleans up any clock signal, and provides it as reference clock at the two BNC outputs. The module is internally connected to the PCI card via a flat ribbon cable. Thanks to several LEDs (power, termination, LOCK) and the highly integrated concept of installation, first operation and usage are simple even for the inexperienced user.

OctaMic II
I/O Connectivity 8 x Mic / Line Preamp Input (XLR/TRS Combo) 8 x Line Output (TRS balanced) 8 x AD-converter (up to 192 kHz) 2 x ADAT Output (S/MUX, up to 96 kHz) 4 x AES/EBU Output (D-sub, up to 192 kHz) 1 x AES/SPDIF Sync Input
The OctaMic II provides 8-Channel 192 kHz / 24 bit AD conversion with eight hi-class microphone and line pre-amplification channels, featuring a combination of sophisticated components and approved RME technology. Lowest distortion, excellent signal to noise ratio and perfectly linear frequency response transmit and amplify the microphone signals truly unchanged. OctaMic II offers 8 balanced XLR mic / line inputs via Neutrik XLR/TRS combo jacks. Each channel contains switches for 48V phantom power, a low cut filter and phase reversal. Amplification can be set between 6 and 60 dB. LEDs for signal, clip, and activated phantom power give a complete overview on the unit’s status. When the special Clip Hold mode is activated, any detected clip-state will cause the corresponding LED to flash once per second. With this, the user gets a long-term peak detection, and no longer needs to constantly watch the LEDs. At the same time momentary overloads are still displayed correctly. Frontside switches include power on/off and output level, for a choice of -10 dBV, +4 dBu or Hi Gain (+19 dBu) as reference level. This unusual feature offers two advantages. First, the reference level can be easily switched to match any of RME’s current interface devices, from HDSP 9632 through Multiface up to the renowned ADI-8 series converters. Second, the Signal to Noise ratio is optimized, and the Clip-LED will exactly match the ones of the ADI-8 (2 dB below 0 dBFS). The balanced line level output signal is available at the back of the unit via 8 stereo TRS jacks. The specially developed, internal hi-performance switch mode power supply lets the OctaMic II operate in the range of 100V to 240V AC. It is short-circuit-proof, has an integrated line-filter, is

The ADI-8 DS’ astonishing capabilities are easy to explore thanks to a simple and easy to understand user interface. Setting up the ADI-8 DS starts with an input sensitivity and output level that perfectly suits your needs and maintains the excellent dynamic range of the AD Converters. The Input and Output Level option lets you choose between Lo Gain/Hi Gain, +4 dBu, -10 dBV. Each analog input and output has its own ‚Signal Present‘ LED which works in an analog fashion (brighter at higher levels). DS stands for Double Speed, meaning double sample rate. As the ADAT format does not support sample rates higher than 48 kHz the DS mode requires two ADAT channels to transmit the data of 8 audio channels. The used method called Sample Split is compatible to S/MUX, and also found in HDSP-series products. The combination HDSP/ADI-8 DS allows DVD-compatible Hi-End recordings (up to 8-channel recording at 96 kHz),

Due to the highly efficient jitter reduction, any clock signal (even AES and word clock) can be improved and refreshed, and subsequently be used as reference clock at the word clock output. Intelligent Clock Control (ICC) will retain the last valid sample frequency even in case of a loss of the input signal. All settings are retained when the device is switched off.

ADI-4 DD
I/O Connectivity
8-Channel 96 kHz
AES.ADAT format converter
RME‘s ADI-4 DD is a cost-efficient AES to ADAT and ADAT to AES converter. Support for up to 96 kHz and built-in jitter suppression is just two of several outstanding features. Built into a space-saving half-rack enclosure the ADI-4 DD features a lot of the advanced

technology of the ADI-192 DD. The device essentially consists of two converters: four AES/EBU inputs to double ADAT

outputs, and double ADAT inputs to four AES/EBU outputs. The double ADAT ports enable full

8 channel support, from 32 kHz up to 96 kHz (S/MUX). The unit provides one XLR I/O directly. Setting an internal connector easily changes the D-sub 25-pin connector to match the pinout of Tascam (Digidesign), Yamaha and Euphonix cables. The AES output signal can be set to Professional or Consumer subcode. Channel 1/2 can also be received and output optically (TOSLINK). LEDs of different colours clearly display the status of incoming and outgoing signals as well as of internal operations. SyncCheck® not only shows the locking status of an input signal, but also the synchronicity of multiple inputs. Furthermore RME‘s SyncAlign™ technology prevents accidental misalignment errors of ± 1 sample between the AES/EBU inputs. RME‘s SteadyClock™ technology guarantees an excellent performance in all clock modes.
