Project Profile / People Counting
State of the art people counting system deployed at Twin River in Rhode Island Customer Needs With thousands of visitors each year, Twin River, a casino and racetrack outside of Providence, RI, is a world class entertainment destination with live shows and concerts for its visitors. To measure the effectiveness of their advertising and marketing programs, Lincoln Park needed a system that could monitor entrances during a specific event and count visitors. Another requirement was the ability to estimate the total number of people in the facility at any time. The Environment Twin River is the largest gaming facility in Rhode Island. The three story building has multiple entrances on each level leading to restaurants and bars, gaming areas and showrooms. Under construction is a 160,000 square foot addition which will accommodate more gaming, restaurant and entertainment space. Suffice it to say, Twin River is a very busy environment with a constant flow of guests day and night. System Deployed Working closely with Twin River, MAC Systems Inc, a member of SecurityNet, deployed the MATE Count Watch system, a new video analytics solution for counting people and cars using cameras. Each camera monitors entries and exits 24 hours a day, sending data to MATE’s centralized web-based software reporting application.
Customer Benefits
MATE’s intelligent video counting system solved two problems for the customer: to have an accurate count of people flow in real-time during the casino’s promotional events; and to provide an estimate of facility occupancy. Additionally, the webbased reporting tool centralizes all data and can be easily accessed from any PC on the network. “MATE’s system is very flexible in generating real-time reports helping us to better manage our facilities, schedule events and allocate personnel,” says Jason Gittle, Twin River Information Technology Director. “We not only chose the MATE Count Watch for its strong counting capabilities but equally important for its ease of use,” says Glenn Heywood, Director of Sales for MAC Systems, Inc.

MATE Tri-Layered Shield for enhanced security
Layer 1: Perimeter Protection. Video cameras form a virtual fence that augments or replaces a physical barrier around the perimeter. With Video content analysis, intrusions such as crossing boundaries, moving in a no-man-zone or throwing an object over a fence are detected. Mate’s Intelligent Video detection and transmission devices transform surveillance cameras into an additional line of defense.
About MATE MATE Intelligent Video is a global provider of cutting-edge, real time video analytics solutions for proactive video and IP surveillance, people and car counting and tailgating detection. MATE’s advanced video content analysis technology detects and analyzes potential threats and hazards generating real-time alerts based on user’s predefines parameters. Founded in 1997, MATE has gained extensive experience in the video analytics field and had positioned itself as a market leader. Leveraging our open architecture, our flexible and field-proven solutions integrate easily into any network topology and are sold, installed and supported by top tier system integrators and distributors worldwide MATE offers a complete line of video analytics products including PC and embedded (DSP) based systems working with analog, IP cameras or other third party systems. MATE's solutions are controlled by smart centralized management software, assisting security personnel to enhance security operations and improve vigilance. Layer 2: Site Surveillance. Terror and crime cannot always be stopped at the perimeter. This is particularly true in public venues, which are either open for all or do not have effective means for screening at the perimeter. Detecting motion alone is insufficient to identify threats, so video content analysis must incorporate Behavior Tracking. With Mate’s technology, surveillance cameras identify abandoned objects, stopped cars, objects removed, excessive speed, movement in the wrong direction, and other alarm-triggering behaviors. Layer 3: Access Control. Security procedures at doors and gates can de compromised through ‘tailgating’- following an authorized individual through an access control point without using a separate valid credential. Mate prevents or detects such tactics by counting people and comparing the number of access grants with the number of actual entries. Mate people counting technology is also used to measure pedestrian flow at entrances.
