ADVANCED READING COURSE IN THEOLOGY
The aim of this course is to assist Christians to grow in their knowledge of our faith. A personalized program tailor made to the individual and designed for mature Christians who have been active members of their local church and have the discipline and motivation to study with minimal supervision. The reading course consists of core courses that are essential and a number of electives that together comprise approximately one year’s full-time study or three years part time study. The time taken to complete the course depends on the individual who is able, to some extent, to work at his/her own pace. The course involves guided reading with assignments given to test comprehension and small group tutorial sessions. Lecture attendance is possible for fulltime students. The entrance requirements are: ♦ References from your church pastor and one other mature Christian. ♦ A brief account telling of: - your conversion - your previous and present ministry involvement - whether you have won souls for Jesus - why you wish to do this course ♦ Proof of your highest academic qualification and your ability to speak and write English fluently. The core books are as follows: 1. Calvin’s Institutes of the Christian Religion 2. Knowing the Truth 3. “From Jerusalem to Irian Jaya” 4. Work of Jonathan Edwards In addition one elective must be selected from each of the six major curriculum categories, to earn the diploma.
KMBC KwaZulu-Natal Missionary & Bible College THE CURRICULUM THE CURRICULUM OUTLINE FOR ALL DIPLOMAS Our curriculum is designed to focus primarily on the Bible through individual book studies, surveys, interpretation and Theology. Christians should learn from the past by gaining an understanding of church history, which complements Bible knowledge. Sound doctrine must be put into practice and this should result in a holy life. We seek to encourage this through teaching on Practical Christian Living. Once this is established, we have a base on which to build or develop Ministry Skills, particularly preaching. An understanding of the world to whom we wish to reach out is important and this is obtained by looking at Christianity in the World. Finally we wish to create awareness of Missions and for those who wish, practical preparation for the missions field (our concept of the mission field being the old fashioned idea of pioneer missions to previously unevangelised people – the people neglected by 90% of Protestant missionaries). Although our year runs from January to December, following the Kwa-Zulu Natal school terms we are able to enroll students four times a year at the beginning of each term. Our entire three-year syllabus is taught every year, so that a student, missing a subject, is able to return and complete it the following year.
