NOVEMBER

Highlights

Being A Man From Friday 24 to Sunday 26 November, Being A Man festival addresses the challenges and pressures of masculine identity in the 21st century. For its fourth year, we ask what makes a man. The answers come via discussions of masculinity and power, Nordic masculinity, male identity and fatherhood, bullying, porn and teenage knife crime, to name just a few.

Some of the confirmed speakers include the comedian, Peep Show star and memoirist Robert Webb and the refugee turned movie star Antonythasan Jesuthasan. Passes are available for Friday, Saturday or Sunday (£20) or the whole weekend (£50). Being A Man festival is supported by Gillette.

Southbank Centre Artist-inResidence Pierre-Laurent Aimard performs with an ensemble known for its daring approach. Enjoy Artistic Director Richard Tognetti’s extraordinary chamber arrangements of masterworks.

One of the UK’s landmark musical celebrations presents world-class artists and emerging stars. This year, the Royal Festival Hall stage welcomes Abdullah Ibrahim and Hugh Masekela, Marcus Miller and the Harlem Gospel Choir.

In the first of two concerts this season, the great pianist performs piano sonatas by Schubert. Uchida opens with the great C minor Sonata D.958, a work of overwhelming drama and almost fevered imagination.

Warm up and unwind in a one-ofa-kind Finnish sauna experience in the heart of London this Wintertime. Our Nordic sauna sits on the Queen Elizabeth Hall Roof Garden next to the bar.

See the best in journalistic photography. The competition honours the photographer whose visual creativity and skills capture an issue of great journalistic importance in the last year. The jury gave prizes in eight categories to 45 photographers from 25 countries.

LondonWe believe art has the power to help create a better world for Eye everyone. That’s why we began in 1951 on the South Bank of Waterloo

the Thames. Dreamed up after World War Two, the Festival of Britain gave the nation hope for a brighter future. Today, millions of people gather at our festivals to enjoy culture from around the world. We put on 5,700 concerts, gigs, exhibitions, Waterloo Station shows and debates each year, half of them for free. Our work can be seen on six continents and in 37 towns and cities across the UK. Come and see for yourself. Southbank Centre occupies a 17-acre site in the midst of London’s vibrant cultural quarter on the South Bank of the Thames. This includes Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Purcell Room, and Hayward Gallery. We also curate the outdoor spaces along the riverfront and around our venues, providing free art for millions of people every year.
