SEPTEMBER
Highlights
Unlimited Unlimited is back for 2018, once again shining a light on extraordinary work by disabled artists. From Wednesday 5 to Sunday 9 September, come to see a line-up featuring the British Paraorchestra, writer and comedian Jackie Hagan and sitar master Baluji Shrivastav OBE. There’s dance, performance, comedy, music and art that challenges perceptions and breaks down walls. The festival also has an abundance of free shows and activities, plus relaxed performances and BSL-integrated events.
Darbar
Darbar Festival’s 13th annual celebration returns for two double-bill concerts on 22 and 23 September. Take your seat to discover an enchanting world of melody and rhythm.
Play by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui & Shantala Shivalingappa Be entralled by two acclaimed dancers, with seemingly opposing styles and cultures, performing together to a live score, as they explore the games people play in life and in love.
Born out of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad, Southbank Centre’s Unlimited is a biennial festival. At its heart is the Unlimited commissions programme delivered by Shape Arts and Artsadmin, supporting established, emerging and international disabled artists across all artforms.
Aurora Orchestra: Smoke and Mirrors
Moses Sumney
Space Shifters
The Forward Prizes for Poetry Ceremony
Aurora Orchestra conjure up the spirits and myths of two early romantic masterpieces. HK Gruber’s Frankenstein!! and Beethoven's Fifth Symphony cast long shadows, especially when the orchestra perform the latter from memory.
Our new Hayward Gallery exhibition features work by 20 international artists that alters or disrupts our sense of space and re-orients our understanding of our surroundings, in ways that are subtle and dramatic by turns.
Since emerging in 2014, Moses Sumney has ridden a wave of word-of-mouth praise, hushed recordings, and dynamic live performances. His is a patient ascent all too rare in today’s musical climate.
See the most coveted poetry prizes in the British Isles awarded live on stage by jury chair Bidisha and writer Chris McCabe, and hear readings from the 15 shortlisted poets.

LondonSouthbank Centre occupies a 17-acre site in the midst of Eye London’s vibrant cultural quarter on the South Bank of the Waterloo
Thames. This includes Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Purcell Room, and Hayward Gallery. We also curate the outdoor spaces along the riverfront and around our venues, providing free art for millions of people every year. Waterloo Station We believe art has the power to help create a better world for everyone. That’s why we began in 1951 on the South Bank of the Thames. Dreamed up after World War Two, the Festival of Britain gave the nation hope for a brighter future. Today, millions of people gather at our festivals to enjoy culture from around the world. We put on 5,700 concerts, gigs, exhibitions, shows and debates each year, half of them for free. Our work can be seen on six continents and in 37 towns and cities across the UK. Come and see for yourself.
