Web We Want
Festival Festival
Thursday 28 – Sunday 31 May
Join us for the third weekend of our Web We Want festival, investigating the past 25 years of the web and looking to the future. The festival is inspired by the work of Sir Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of the World Wide Web. This is an opportunity to celebrate all that is wonderful and extraordinary about the Web, and to explore its challenges and difficulties. Because the Web allows us to communicate with people around the world, it is a vehicle for creative exploration, personal relationships and enormous business opportunities. However, there is also jeopardy – the ‘dark net’ facilitates underground online networks for everything from buying drugs to extreme politics. In addition, universal and open access to the Web is under threat and its governance is in the hands of a small number of people. We live online. The Web is how we live now and this festival explores why we need to fight for it.
