Southie Sr Babe Ruth are South Shore League Champions!
For the first time since 2011, the South Boston Sr Babe Ruth team are Champions of the South Shore Sr Babe Ruth League!
After several postponed games and a 1-3-1 start in June, a season that was once full of such promise and high expectations seemed to be slipping away. That is until the calendar turned to July and the team went on an incredible run winning 8 of their next 9 games and rolling into the playoffs on a high note.
After drawing the #2 seed in the playoffs, the Southie boys were looking to exact revenge from a Dorchester team that knocked them out of last years semi final series. Game 1 at Moakley Park saw a tight low scoring game with great pitching on both sides. Steven Flynn got the start for the home team and went 7 innings scattering 4 hits with striking out 3. Southie was able to score a run in the first after Joe Greene was hit by a pitch and Jerry O’Neil singled Greene in to make it 1-0 after 1

Volunteers Needed To Revive A Great Halloween Tradition
Yes, we know, we are still in the month of August and the summer season is still going strong – a season that really doesn’t last as long as most people would like. And by this editorial, we are not trying to rush in to autumn, so chill it with the talk of Pumpkin Spice coffee, muffins and cake recipes for a while. Let people enjoy summertime. But this Halloween reminder is of a timely measure so we have to get this one out early in order to do our part to bring back a really great tradition. As every born and raised and long term resident knows, South Boston has had a long standing tradition of being the community that hosts a very special event for Halloween. Over the years it’s gone by a couple of different names; the latest being the ‘Children’s Magical Halloween Castle’. Many newer residents have heard of it too. A quick description: Thanks to great and dedicated members of the Castle Island Association; volunteers all, the event is held inside Fort Independence at Castle Island just before Halloween itself. The fort, or castle as it is referred to, in all its splendor, is decked out to the max in the most festive and spooky decorations imagin-
able. It is truly a work of art when finished and ready; put together by some of the most creative people around. This event draws thousands of visitors, most of them families with children, but curious adults as well and fascinates and brings smiles to all who see it. It is so impressive that people return year after year. They come from not just our community but surrounding areas. People travel here from other states to view it. But as most know, the Children’s Magical Halloween Castle event didn’t take place for the last couple of years.
The reason there was no event in recent years is because the preparation takes a lot of work and a lot of volunteers and can be a bit time consuming and there just hasn’t been enough volunteers to help with all the prep work. The only thing that can revive it for this coming Halloween is an infu-
sion of some new volunteers to help with the work load. As we said, it takes time and a lot of work to prepare it and then to break it all down after the holiday. But as those who have been doing it in past season will attest, it’s enjoyable work with the reward of seeing the happy faces and smiles and hearing the laughter of thousands of happy kids when they walk in to the fort and see the beauty and the magic prepared for them. If there is anything that can put visitors of any age into the Halloween spirit it’s the Children’s Magical Halloween Castle.
The point of this editorial is to ask anyone and everyone who might have some time to spare and would like to volunteer to help put this event together to come forward and add your name to the list of helpers. If enough people step up, it can be done and this beautiful celebration can once again delight the public. Traditions are a wonderful thing. And the Children’s Magical Halloween Castle is definitely a tradition worth bringing back. If you think you’d like to be part of reviving the tradition and can give a bit of time and effort, please contact The Castle Island Association at 857-250-7755 or email them at castleisland8@gmail.com

Easy To See Why Americans Are So Skeptical
e can’t believe anything we read , see or hear from the news media anymore”. That’s a quote we so often hear in today’s world. And it’s not just today in 2024. It’s been the case now for decades and beyond. And let’s not just single out the news media, although they are by far the worst offenders when speaking about spreading misinformation, fake news and flat out blatant lies. Also to blame are Hollywood moguls, many in the music industry, Big Tech and of course, those elite, some would call modern Nazi wannabe’s who are headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. They call themselves ‘The World Economic Foru or WEF. The WEF want to control every aspect of our lives and will tell all manner of lies to do it. But, right up there with the afore mentioned is the current Administration that pollutes Washington DC and beyond. Their alliance with the main stream media has never been more obvious. In this biggest and possibly the most important election year ever, the lengths they will go to in their efforts to con the American people are truly amazing. And they no longer try to even hide it and certainly feel no shame at what they are doing. One only has to look at how they are so desperately trying to prop up their favored candidates and run defense for all of their many MANY shortcomings. Let’s go down the line: Joe Biden: For more than 3 years, they’ve been lying to the nation, saying Biden was as sharp as a tack and at the top of his game. Yet the public could clearly see that he was anything but sharp – he is and was in rapid decline both physically and mentally. When the press finally realized that they couldn’t convince people to stop believing their lying eyes and that everyone could see how bad he was, they jumped right in, turned on him and kicked him to the side. Now, they bring in Kamala Harris.
Kamala Harris has been rated the least popular and most incompetent vice president in the history of the United States. She has ties with dangerous left wing organizations, helped encourage the riots and looting and burning of cities in 2020 and has nary a positive accomplishment in her entire career. Voters in both parties and independents too never liked her and didn’t trust her. But now, the White House and the media try to convince us that she has somehow become America’s sweet heart in just the last 3 weeks and put out phony polls claiming she’s loved by the country. They’ve even been caught fabricating huge crowds at what actually are relatively small gatherings and try to trick people. They are using Artificial Intelligence created video and photo shopped still pictures to do this. And though they’ve been caught in the act doing this, they still continue hoping that some people are just too dumb to realize what they’re up to.
The lies coming out of the media and the Oval Office are so blatant and apparent, they should be embarrassed – but they’re not. Again, they have no shame.
Just look who they are putting up for vice president. Tim Walz, has been lying about his military service also known as Stolen Valor for years. He claimed he retired a Command Sergeant Major in the Minnesota National Guard – caught in a lie. He claimed to carry an M-16 rifle in combat, another lie. He was never in combat. He didn’t retire from the guard, he quit when he learned he was going to be deployed - another lie. Walz has received scorching reviews from his fellow guardsmen, his superior officers and veteran’s groups in general for what he’s been doing. He claimed he was a champion of small businesses as governor - another lie. He shut them down and drove many of them out during Covid while allowing the big box stores to open. He has admitted it, since
Note: talk back to John Ciccone by
he was caught in these lies, but doesn’t even have the decency to apologize. He doesn’t feel he has to. These are the types of people that the Democrat Party is putting up to run the country.
There are more lies coming out of this White House, the news media and the DNC itself than ever before. They’ve been lying about inflation, the economy, oil drilling, Biden’s health, taxes and how they are spending billions in tax payer dollars, the fact they tried to defund police all over the country and of course – the border. When this bunch took office, they bragged and boasted how Kamala would be the ‘Border
Czar’. She probably couldn’t find it with GPS and did nothing about it except encourage more illegal crossings. And now the administration and the media are claiming she was NOT the Border Czar. They think or hope the public has the attention span of a moth. So it should come as no surprise that fewer Americans by the hour trust or believe anything that these people spit out. They are not capable of telling the truth. They shouldn’t be allowed to run a cheap motel parking lot, never mind our country. Think long and hard before casting your vote this coming November. The future of our country depends on it.

Babe Ruth continued from front page inning. Things would stay that way until both teams traded runs in the 6th inning to make it a 2-1 game heading into the final frame. A sacrifice fly by Dorchester in the top of the 7th inning tied the game at 2-2 which would force the game into extra innings with the late evening sunlight fading. After Jerry O’Neil came out of the bullpen to hold Dorchester scoreless in the top of the 8th inning, that set the stage for leadoff hitter Joe Greene to come to the plate with one out in the last of the 8th. With the Dorchester starter still in the game and the pitch count rising, Greene crushed a long fly ball over the fence to deep right center field for a walk off home run and a 3-2 Southie victory!
Game 2 took place at Garvey Park in Dorchester and was a lot looser with both teams combining for 22 hits and 19 runs. Despite this it was every bit as entertaining as game 1. Southie would plate two runs in the top of the first inning before Dorchester scored to make it a 4-2 game after one. Southie turned things on in the second inning after scoring 5 runs and with Dorchester picking up a single run in the bottom half of the inning it was a 7-5 ballgame after 2 innings. Dorchester would make things interesting, scoring single runs in the 4th, 6th, and 7th innings and after 7 we had an 8-8 tie and the second extra inning game of the series. The top of the 8th inning saw two Southie batters hit by pitches before big lefty Rusbert Martinez came to the plate and crushed a hard ground ball through the first baseman’s legs that then got through the right fielder’s legs (the double Buckner!). This allowed Martinez to come all the way around and score to make it a 11-8 Southie advantage going into the bottom of the 8th inning. Martinez, who was now on to relieve starting pitcher Jerry O’Neil (6 Innings 6 K’s), would shut down the Dorchester offense and propel South Boston into the finals. Hitters for Southie in the game included Joe Greene, Tristin Pecev-
ich, Jerry O’Neil, Ronan Carlson, Francis Perez, and Ben Fennelly. Game 1 of the finals saw Southie traveling south to Balch Field in Norwood. The Balch has been a house of horrors of sorts in recent years with Southie dropping several games in a row on the big field. Things looked like they were going to stay that way as Norwood rolled out to a 5-1 lead through the first four innings as the South Boston hitters were unable to solve the Norwood starting pitcher. The boys started chipping away, scoring single runs in the 5th and 6th innings to make it a 5-3 game heading into the final frame. After two walks and a single by Tommy Flaherty, Dylan Picard provided the big hit with a single to right field that scored two runs to tie things up. Ryan Alexander would then score on a wild pitch and Southie completed the comeback to take the lead 6-5. After getting the first two outs in the bottom of the 7th, Norwood got on Southie starter Stephen Flynn (6 2/3 Innings, 5 K’s) and Jerry O’Neil came in from the bullpen to record the final out with the bases loaded to preserve the 6-5 victory. Other hitters in the game included Joe Greene, Tristin Pecevich, and Rusbert Martinez.
After a one-night delay to game 2, the team was in search of a home field after two straight days of pouring rain flooded all fields at Moakley Park. As luck would have it, BC High was able to secure a field for the team and appeared to have left behind some good karma on their turf after the Eagles own D1 championship earlier in the summer. At the start of the game, Southie jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back. Norwood would plate a run in the top half of the second inning to make it 2-1 and the game stayed tight until Southie added some insurance runs in the 5th and 6th innings. Jerry O’Neil pitched well over the first three innings allowing only one hit while striking out 4 before an injury forced him out of the game early. Rusbert Mar-
tinez came on in relief and got the job done shutting down the Norwood hitters over the final 4 innings and striking out the final batter of the game to secure the 4-1 victory and a Southie Championship! Joe Greene had a two-hit night on offense while Pecevich and Carlson also added a hit each. Heads up baserunning by Stephen Flynn and Tommy Flaherty also helped generate runs that helped Southie pull away down the stretch.
The team would like to thank all of the parents, fans, friends, umpires and league officials that make the 2024 season such a success. A special thanks to the Coyne/Adams Fund, Kevin Doyle at Boston Home Theatre Design, and the Committee to Elect Ed Flynn who helped sponsor the team this year.
Team Roster: Joe Greene, Stephen Flynn, Tristin Pecevich, Rusbert Martinez, Jerry O’Neil, Ronan Carlson, Francis Perez, Tommy Flaherty, Ben Deardon, Ryan Alexander, Dylan Picard, Ben Fennelly, and Andy Nova. Coaches: Billy Connor, Bobby McGarrell, Donnie Brooks, and Joey Maiullari.
REP. BIELE’S LEGISLATION TO SUPPORT VETERANS
SIGNED INTO LAW AS PART OF HERO ACT
HERO Act increases benefits and modernizes services for Massachusetts veteransSIGNED INTO LAW AS PART OF HERO ACT
Recently, Governor Maura Healey signed into law
An Act Honoring, Empowering and Recognizing Our Service Members and Veterans (HERO Act).
Passed by the Legislature, the legislation will boost support for hundreds of thousands of individuals across Massachusetts who have served in the United States military—increasing and simplifying benefits and opportunities, modernizing services, and promoting inclusivity for Massachusetts veterans while reaffirming the Commonwealth’s commitment to recognizing and serving all service members and their families.
The HERO Act increases benefits for disabled veterans and Gold Star family members, bolsters new and existing initiatives for municipalities and businesses to support veterans,
creates comprehensive services for active-duty service members and military families, expands the scope of the Veterans Equality Review Board, updates the Chapter 115 definition of a veteran to expand eligibility, and codifies medical, behavioral health, and dental benefits.
Further, the HERO Act also includes a provision filed by Representative David Biele during review by the House of Representatives to streamline EMT certification for veterans. The provision authorizes the Commonwealth to grant a waiver to veterans or military medics applying to be an emergency medical technician, provided that the training and courses required by the United States military are substantially equivalent to training required for state certification.
“I was proud to join my colleagues in voting to pass this comprehensive legislation to increase supportive services and benefits for veterans while ensuring that our Commonwealth honors our veterans and Gold Star families,” said Rep. Biele. “I’m grateful to Speaker Mariano, Leader Moran, Chair Cassidy, and the Committee on Veterans and Federal Affairs for their work in finalizing legislation to support our veterans and their families, as well as including legislation to streamline EMT certification for veterans.”
Other highlights of the HERO
Act include:
Benefit Expansion
• Behavioral Health Treatment: Expands access to behavioral health treatment by allowing veterans to be reimbursed for visits to outpatient behavioral health providers.
• Disabled Veteran Annuity: Increases the disabled veteran annuity to $2,500, phased in over two years, and will be one payment, annually, on August 1.
• Vet-Hire Tax Credit: Increases to $2,500 a tax credit for small businesses hiring chronically unemployed or low-income veterans. Eligible veterans include those receiving SNAP benefits, chronically unemployed veterans, and unemployed service-connected disabled veterans.
• Prevents the “COLA Cliff”: Ensures that a costof-living adjustment in Social Security benefits will not affect veterans’ eligibility for Chapter 115 benefits mid-fiscal year.
• Increases Local Flexibility for Veterans Property Tax Exemptions: Allows municipalities to double property tax exemptions with local options and ties the annual property tax abatement amount to inflation.
Greater Representation
• Broadens the Chapter 115 Definition of Veteran: Aligns the state Chapter 115 program definition with the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs definition.
• Expands the Scope of the Veterans Equality Review Board: Includes discharges related to Military Sexual Trauma, PTSD, TBI, mental health conditions or HIV.
Modernization of Veterans Services
• Codifies Dental Assistance
Benefits: Ensures veterans receive essential dental care by codifying dental benefits for Chapter 115 recipients.
• Codifies Medical Assistance Benefits: Provides consistent care to veterans by codifying medical assistance benefits.
• Codifies Authority for Veterans Cemeteries: Ensures proper management and care of veterans cemeteries.
Recognizing and Honoring our Service Members
• Half-Staff Flag Requirement: Requires flags to be flown at half-staff from the day of death until the day of interment for any military service member residing in Massachusetts.
• Expands Gold Star Families Recognition: Requires the Governor to issue a proclamation on Memorial Day and illuminate certain bridges in gold.
Lastly, the HERO Act establishes new recognitions for military service in the Commonwealth and requires several working groups to review post-traumatic stress disorder in veterans, mental health treatments for veterans, and overall quality of life for veterans in Massachusetts.
Guy The Wine
It’s
Time
It’s the middle of August and in France, especially the south, it’s what they call “le temps facile’, the easy time. While you may not be planning on being in or around Nice, especially Ste. Paul a Vance or my favorite, Eze, the following can get you a bit closer; just close your eyes and sip…
Château La Gordonne, Le Cirque des Grives, 2021, ($24.99). A sumptuous wine with a compelling oily texture, satisfying layers of melon fruit drizzled in acacia honey, shavings of white chocolate and musty sprinklings of white pepper that will really wake up your palate. The finish is lingering and savory, bringing an elegance to this graceful, complex wine. Have it by itself or the way the
locals do, with seafood, a Salade Nicoise or some local cheese on a fresh baguette.
Ma Mie Provence Rosé, Côtes de Provence, France, ($12.99).
Ma Mie Provence Rosé is a delightful and elegant drop that captures the essence of the Provence region in France. Crafted with meticulous care and attention to detail, this rosé wine offers a remarkable drinking experience. It refreshes with its enchanting pale pink color, reminiscent of delicate rose petals. The hue is soft and inviting, reflecting the wine’s grace and sophistication. Its visual appeal sets the stage for a memorable tasting journey. Vibrant notes of fresh strawberries, juicy watermelon, and ripe raspberries fill the air, creating an enticing ol -
factory experience. Subtle floral undertones and a hint of citrus zest add layers of complexity, enhancing the wine’s overall aromatic profile.
2022 Château Pradeaux Bandol Rosé, Provence, France, ($33.99). Bandol is a key appellation of the Provence wine region in far south-eastern France. Created in 1941, the title covers red, white and rosé wines from roughly 1550 hectares (3830 acres) of vineyards around the Mediterranean coastal town of Bandol. Bandol rosé wines, which account for about a third of total output, are known for their spicy, earthy character and rank among the more distinguished rosés that France has to offer. Like the reds, they are made from a blend that is dominated by Mourvedre, Grenache and Cinsaut. Alexandre Dumas’ Count of Monte Cristo famously enjoyed a glass of Bandol rose “bien frais”. You might want to try it with some oysters on the half shell or perhaps some fresh Calamari.
Not all great Rose wines come from Provence; further south of that region lies the Iberian Peninsula, better known as Spain. The 2022 Bodegas Muga Rosa -
do, Rioja DOCa, Spain, ($16.99) is from the Rioja Alta region, which is one of three sub-regions of Spain’s celebrated Rioja wine region. It occupies the westernmost portion of the region, with the majority of its vineyards lying south of the Ebro River. This one is more complex, which is due in part to the grapes used in making it. The main grape is Tempranillo, which imparts a spicy character and Garnacha, providing a fullness which you won’t find in too many Rose wines. Delicious, nevertheless.
Domaine des Carteresses ,Tavel Rose, ($15.99) comes from another famous-and old, even by French standards-region that’s been producing outstanding Rose wine for centuries. Wine Spectator has given this wine 92 points, saying, “This wine is one of the best values in French rosé, especially from Tavel, the Domaine Carteresse is a bone dry rosé made from Grenache, Mourvedre, Clairette, Picopul and Syrah. This perfect summer sipper matches well with tapenade, grilled fish and Bouillabaisse.”. Well, all this having been said, I would say your next move should be to hunt these out and have a little “Temps facile” for yourself.

‘ON
THE DOT’ NEIGHBORHOOD BACKGROUND
Core Investments has been working for the last several years with City of Boston planners and the neighborhood, particularly the Andrew Square Neighborhood Association, to plan residential, commercial, retail, civic, and open space in the 21 acres. Core has received approval from the Boston Planning and Development Agency for the 21-acre Master Plan and a nine-acre first phase of four buildings.
The Philadelphia Eagles are in town, and they’ve been participating in joint practices with the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium, prior to their Week 2 Preseason game.
I try not to read to much into preseason football, but with a pretty interesting quarterback situation playing out in Foxboro these days, it’s definitely worth taking a look at who’s getting the most reps, and what they’re doing with those reps, especially against another team in a joint practice, followed by the ensuing preseason game.
I haven’t been to a practice this year, so that’s why hearing what coach Jerod Mayo says in his press conferences is somewhat important to me. And because of that, I’ll keep sharing with you.
Here’s a portion of Mayo’s press conference from earlier this week, from the Patriots’ website:
JEROD MAYO: Look, we’re excited to be out here. Great weather. Another team here, break up the monotony of camp. To have the Eagles come in, a great organization, a great team, it’s definitely going to be a good measuring stick for us.
Q: Jerod, you said you had a conversation with Kendrick Bourne
after trade rumors last week. Did you have a conversation with [Matthew] Judon since he popped up in a rumor yesterday?
JM: You know, we don’t really operate in rumors like that. The conversations that I have with those players are pretty private. What I will say is that Judon has done a great job in the meeting room and done everything that we’ve asked. He’s meeting all the expectations.
Q: Jerod, do you have any update on Hunter Henry? We know he was injured on Sunday, and he wasn’t out here yesterday.
JM: No update really to give you guys. He won’t practice today if you want to know that. When he’s ready to go, he’ll be out there playing.
Q: Do you anticipate it’s going to be long term?
JM: I don’t anticipate it to be very long.
Q: Jerod, what is your relationship with Coach [Nick] Sirianni like, and how have you guys worked together?
JM: We have a good relationship. Every time we see each other, we have good conversations. Even yesterday, we had their whole staff here, just how we wanted to practice, went through the script and things
This week,
Danny shared his thoughts on Patriots’ Training Camp amidst joint practices with the Eagles:
like that. I would say our staffs are on the same page. Once again, he’s done it. This is my first time, and so he had some advice about that. I appreciate the relationship.
Q: How would you describe Drake Maye, the preseason and training camp that he’s had to this point?
JM: He’s been steady. I think if I was to say one word, it’s steady. He’s always in the building, always studying. He’s out here trying to get better each and every day. He’ll get more reps this week if that’s the underlying question. He’ll get more reps this week, believe me.
Q: How much was the opener for him calling plays in the huddle, just handing the football at the basics, getting that under his belt?
JM: Yeah, it was huge. I would also say when he wasn’t in the game, he was still listening to the call, still taking those mental reps, which are very important. I always talk to all the players, if you’re not in there, you should be getting mental reps and going through the checks in your head. He definitely did that.
Q: Jerod, Jacoby [Brissett] said, about a week or so ago, ‘We need to button down the things that don’t require talent.’ Yesterday, we saw
a couple laps. We saw some guys jumping offsides. You had a little meeting there. How do you feel like you’re progressing as a group on that front?
JM: I think it’s going well. You know, that was the first truly sloppy practice in my opinion. I think the guys knew that, and I think that’s a huge part of it. You know when you’re messing up. If you don’t know you’re messing up and you’re messing up, that’s a huge problem. They took to the coaching, but once again, the pre-snap things, the things that you can control, we have to clean that stuff up before we get to Week 1.
Q: Jerod, in your first training camp as head coach, how would you evaluate your own performance?
JM: That’s for you guys. That’s for you guys to decide, for the players to decide and the assistant coaches. I’m always open to feedback. They’ve done a great job. I have this open door policy. They’ve done a great job [of saying], ‘Hey Coach, we can do this better or maybe we should change something here.’ I’ve been wide open, just listening to all those options.

USA BASKETBALL
WIN’S FIFTH STRAIGHT OLYMPIC GOLD
Three Boston Celtics have won Gold.
Jayson Tatum, Derrick White, and Jrue Holiday were all part of the Gold-Medal winning Team USA at the Summer Olympics in Paris.
USA defeated France in the Gold Medal game, 98-87. White was the only member of Team USA to not play in the game. Tatum, who had been given zero minutes in two previous games during these Olympics, played 11 minutes, and finished with two points, three rebounds, and one steal. Holiday played 18 minutes, finishing with six points, one rebound, and four assists.
Here are some quotes from the USA Basketball website:
Tweet of the Week
“We have the most incredible group of players,” USA coach Steve Kerr told NBC. “They were all so unselfish throughout this whole thing, through all the noise, all the pressure. I think we might be the only team in the world whose fans are ashamed of them if they get a silver medal, you know? And that’s the pressure that we face. But our players, and you saw Steph, they love the pressure. They appreciate this atmosphere, and they were fantastic.”
“I’m just living in the moment,” said LeBron James, who was named MVP of the Olympics. “Super-humbled that I can still play this game, play it at a high level, play with 11 other great players, with a great coach-
ing staff and to go do it for our country was a great moment.
“It was great,” added James. “We wouldn’t have wanted it any other way than to face off against the host team. It was a great atmosphere.”
“A lot of relief,” said Steph Curry. “It wasn’t easy but damn, I’m excited. Everything I wanted it to be and more.”
“It’s right up there with all of the greatest games of his career,” Kerr said about Curry’s GoldMedal 24-point performance.
“The shot-making was just incredible. But under the circumstances, you know, on the road, in Paris, against France for a gold medal. This is storybook stuff, but that’s what Steph does, he likes to be in storybooks.”
PATRIOTS HOST EAGLES IN SECOND GAME OF PRESEASON
One week after defeating the Carolina Panthers, 17-3, in the 2024 Preseason opener, the New England Patriots take another step closer to the regular season when they host the Philadelphia Eagles at Gillette Stadium on Thursday night.
The Eagles have been in Foxboro this week for joint practices, something that Patriots coach Jerod Mayo said will be highly beneficial to everyone, but especially rookie quarterback Drake Maye.
“For all the quarterbacks, it’s a huge week for those guys to really show development,” Mayo
told the media in a press conference earlier this week. “Drake will play more this week, for sure. But don’t forget, anytime you practice against a team, they’ll get a lot of good reps against someone else and based on that, we’ll see how they’ll play in a game. That’s all positions, though.”
After the Eagles game, the Patriots will conclude their three-game preseason schedule on Sunday, Aug. 25 in D.C. against the Washington Commanders on NBC.
New England’s first game of the regular season is Sunday, Sept. 8 in Cincinnati.

Smith-Schuster, 27, was on the field for just 11 snaps in last Thursday’s preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers, and was not targeted a single time.
Said Patriots coach Jerod Mayo of the release: “It was a decision between Eliot [Wolf] and myself, really to give the younger guys an opportunity to go out there and get more reps and show what they can do.”
