Make Wild Memories at Wakehurst this Spring Wakehurst, Kew’s wild botanical garden in Sussex, is home to over 500 acres to explore. Don’t miss the carpets of bluebells, their rare rhododendrons bursting into bloom and the Water Gardens, awash with magnificent magnolias and the shades of spring. Little ones can be Wakehurst Explorers for the day and embark on an intrepid journey through the gardens. Bertram Bunny’s Easter Pirate Adventure at Borde Hill Garden This Easter holiday spend time together as a family with pirate themed fun and nature-filled discoveries at Borde Hill Garden. Spot the signs of spring whilst exploring the Garden on the Easter trail. Join Bertram Bunny on his fantasy Easter Island adventure, seeking out the treasure hidden by Jumping Jack Bunny who has returned from the high seas. Find all the treasures and solve some puzzles along the way to receive a delicious chocolate treat. During the trail there will be some pirate have-a-go activities and a dressing-up box. Children can also let off steam in the Adventure Playground where they can swing, climb, balance and slide their way through a series of equipment including a thrilling zip wire for the most adventurous. There will be daily crafts for children to create an Easter or pirate themed masterpiece to take home, and why not visit the pirate photo booth for a selfie with family and friends? I’d highly recommend a trip.” Join Aldingbourne for their Children’s Wipe Out Zone on Monday 6 April where you can race through the inflatable course. Spring Live! 2020 Celebrate the great British outdoors and the arrival of spring at the South of England Showground’s Spring Live! event on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 May. The weekend offers something for every generation to enjoy, with traditional countryside activities including ‘have a go’ maypole dancing, the famous sheep show, a newly extended Segway course, inspirational gardening demonstrations and talks. Experience the much-loved Alpaca Show, a variety of independent and countryinspired shopping stalls and a food hall jam-packed with mouthwatering artisan treats from local producers. Younger visitors can enjoy farm animal meet and greets and get up close to creepy crawlies and reptiles. They can also take part in magical wand-making workshops using traditional wood-crafting skills, let loose at the funfair, test their driving skills on the mini monster truck courses and much more.

If that weren’t enough, there’s live entertainment on the main stage with talented performances from East Sussex College students and even flyball so the canine members of the family can get involved too. Hop into Easter Fun at Hever Castle Family fun at Hever Castle and Gardens throughout the Easter holidays promises to put a spring in your step. Hunt for the colourful carrots and the Hever bunny in their fun free Easter trail, or take part in an Easter egg hunt in the grounds. Each child will receive a chocolate for completing the trail and a mini chocolate egg for each Easter egg they find. Take part in an Easter themed trail in the Castle to learn about creatures that hatch and create an egg-shaped decoration to hang on Hever’s Easter tree. Visitors aged 7 to 14 can explore the Tudor Towers adventure playground with its own moat, drawbridge and three turrets. It features three slides and two poles and lots of interactive elements including musical instruments, a maze and hidden boxes to find. Under 7s can enjoy the natural play area, Acorn Dell, with its two-metre-high living willow structure, a giant sandpit, a mound with tunnels to clamber in and a climbing frame. Challenge yourself in the Yew Maze and see how long it takes you to find the way out and try not to get wet in the Water Maze. Journey to the Stars this Easter The South Downs Planetarium in Chichester is an exciting place for people of all ages to visit. Get lost in their stunning fulldome images and breath-taking videos whilst highly experienced and enthusiastic lecturers take you on a mind-blowing journey through space. The Planetarium is located to the south of the City of Chichester, by the campus of the High School. With its 100-seater auditorium, colourful displays and well-stocked sales kiosk, the Planetarium has something for all would-be astronauts and stargazers aged 6 years and above. In conjunction with the new fulldome video system, which produces stunning immersive images and video, the Planetarium’s magnificent star projector projects nearly 4500 stars and other celestial objects onto the dome above your head. The Planetarium puts on new public shows every month including during the school holidays. There is free car parking adjacent to the Planetarium building, easy access for the disabled, and it is only a short walk from rail and bus stations. The Planetarium operates throughout the year but is not open every day, therefore casual callers cannot be accommodated. Easter Duck Quest at Arundel Wetland Centre At the Easter Duck Quest at Arundel Wetland Centre, from 4-19 April, friends and families can get outside and search for GIANT yellow ducks amongst their weird and wonderful reallife duck cousins. Whilst looking for big yellow ducks hidden in spectacular wetland landscapes, visitors will also be able to discover fascinating and quirky facts about birds like the scaly-sided merganser and black-necked grebes. Finish the trail and win a yummy, vegan friendly prize. As well as the duck quest there will be other fun ducky activities for families like Cracking Crafts and pond dipping. The Eggstra-ordinary Trolley will be roaming the grounds with the Learning Team with real eggs and nests to see up close! Lambs and Calves at Coombes Farm Spring is an amazing time at Coombes Farm near Lancing. They have 800 ewes lambing and 80 Sussex cows calving. They are born inside the barns and go out into the fields with their mothers at 3 days old. The farm is open to visitors from 14 March to 19 April. A visit to the farm will allow you to see the lambs and calves being born and then to take a tractor ride to the top of the environmentally sensitive downs to see the animals, as well as the corn fields and conservation areas. You’ll also be able to enjoy amazing views out to sea and over the Weald. There is an outdoor and indoor picnic area. Teas and coffees are available and Ren’s caterers will be serving hot food. And, yes, the ice cream man will be back! Coombes is a family farm and they have been farming there since 1901. This is their 41st year of opening the farm to the public, entertaining and educating visitors who come back year after year. You can also go coarse fishing at Passies Pond on the farm. Easter Fun at West Dean Gardens Visit the award-winning West Dean Gardens, near Chichester, this Easter from 10 to 13 April to enjoy a trail through the beautiful Gardens, abundant with spring flowers and get creative with a host of Easter craft activities. Choose from two trails, tailored to under 5s or 6 to 9-yearolds, both with a chocolate prize. Easter themed craft activities include making a colourful felt egg (designed by milliner Victoria Brown), egg and daffodil decorations made from recycled materials, a collaborative Easter mural and outdoor easels.
