1 September - 28 October 2018 Melbourne Festival is Painting the Town Red! Melbourne Festival is always full of surprises! The excitement is building for the Art & Architecture Trail and it is going to be a fantastic weekend. The dates for your diary are 15th & 16th September this year. Get out your walking shoes and head down to South Derbyshire to enjoy a whole weekend of great art in beautiful locations in this picturesque village. This year you will see 130 professional Artists and Makers exhibiting in over 70 private houses, public buildings and businesses in the historic heart of Melbourne. The trail showcases the best creative talents from across the East Midlands and much more besides. Expect a party atmosphere with music, food and fun activities for youngsters, and the young at heart, around every corner! Each year the Festival has a theme and as 2018 is the centenary of the end of World War 1, this year Melbourne’s knitters have got their needles out and knitted 4,680 Poppies to commemorate the Grenadier Guards who lost their lives in WW1. The Poppies will be displayed alongside Melbourne Pool close to Pool Cottage. Elsewhere around the Trail look out for all things red! For hungry visitors there will be lots of fantastic food around the Trail and live music to listen to. Families are always catered for on the Melbourne Festival Art Trail and this year there are gardens, story stops and activities taking us back in time with old toys and games so practice your yo-yo skills and impress the children! We hope that you enjoy your weekend. The Performing Arts are an important part of Melbourne Festival and the programme has become more adventurous and more successful each year. The programme starts on 1st September. It includes a community concert on 22nd September to commemorate the lives lost in WW1 featuring performances by many local groups. The Festival includes an eclectic mix of music, theatre and comedy and sometimes all three at the same time!
