Editor’s Letter Have you heard? Earlier this year my husband and I packed up and fulfilled a lifelong dream: to live abroad—Italy to be exact! It’s been a fun, fascinating and fulfilling experience to say the very least. It’s also been interesting to see how our adopted Southern sensibilities translate into an entirely new culture. From our manners to our dinner party etiquette, it’s clear that even when you temporarily leave the South, the lessons that you’ve learned stick with you. Aside from being insanely excited to host a Thanksgiving Dinner for our new Italian friends, I’m also dying to see the episode of House Hunters International that my husband and I filmed a few months back. I hear it will air sometime in September or October, so keep an eye out for our silly mugs on your television. Oh, and if you ever doubt the yum-factor of the recipes that appear in our pages, think again! I’ve tested Cara and Phoebe’s Italian-meets-comfortfood Parpadelle with Spicy Italian Sausage, Broccoli Rabe, and Sun-dried Tomato Pesto recipe and it is delizioso!

< J. Crew Cashmere Sweater This luxurious, yet comfy, dress is the type of piece I would wear over and over again until someone said, “OK, seriously, time for a new outfit.” Kate Spade Hang In There Glasses Necklace > This cheeky and fun necklace from Kate Spade reminds me of my husband—who is known for his thick-rimmed black spectacles—so, naturally, I’m totally obsessed with it.

Chloe Matte Silk Satin Blouse > The perfect pumpkin orange, this blouse would look adorable with skinny jeans and zebra print flats, or dressed up for a night on the town.

The 5 Unsung

heroes of Fall Vegetables

f Summer is a tough act to follow as far as vegetables are concerned. But after meal upon meal of caprese salad, zucchini carpaccio, and corn salsa, sometimes as cooks, we have to say: enough already! Give us pasta, hearty sauces, and stews—and give us some sturdy fall vegetables that can stand up to a little heat. Here we’re celebrating our five favorite unsung heroes of the fall harvest with recipes that will let you enjoy these veggies at their peak. We’ll also give you cooking tips for those lesser-known members of our list like, um, celeriac. text and photography by
