Báez is entering her 12th year as a school counselor –all at South Division – and is a graduate of Milwaukee Public Schools. Through her work as a counselor at Wisconsin’s largest bilingual high school, Báez has helped English language students identify and remove barriers standing in the way of pursuing opportunities and achieving academic success. She was selected to be the state’s representative for the Council of Chief State School Officers’ National Teacher of the Year Program earlier this week by a committee composed of educators, representatives from partner organizations, and past Wisconsin Teachers of the Year.
“Ana is an extraordinary school counselor who goes above and beyond for her students, her colleagues, her school and the surrounding community,” State Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly said.
“When I visited South Division earlier this year, it was remarkable to hear the impact she has had on students and how she has worked so diligently to ensure they have every opportunity to succeed in school and their future. Ana understands the importance of growing partnerships, encouraging authentic parental engagement, and making sure the needs of all students are met. I congratulate her on being Wisconsin’s National Teacher of the Year representative, and I have no doubt she will make our state proud at the national level.”
The daughter of Puerto Rican migrants, Báez has been a key to the school’s academic and career planning programming by providing unique guidance lessons that allow
Báez created an in-house scholarship fund with the goal of alleviating some financial burden on students who aspire to continue education after graduation. She credits her success to her colleagues and forming meaningful and engaging partnerships with families and the community.
“I am truly blessed to say I love what I do and where I do it,” Báez said. “This recognition not only reaffirms my commitment to creating environments where every student feels seen, valued, and capable of greatness, but it also validates the hard work of my school, my colleagues, and my scholars.”
As Wisconsin’s National Teacher of the Year representative, Báez will receive $6,000 from the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation, and will participate alongside other state representatives in various professional learning opportunities provided by the CCSSO. A National Teacher of the Year is selected from the group and travels nationally and internationally as a spokesperson and advocate for the teaching profession. Shortly thereafter, the subject was located by a drone on the roof of a residence

Help grow the hunting tradition in the state
Are you a safe, ethical hunter with a passion for growing the sport we love?
Consider joining the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR)’s volunteer hunting education roster.
By volunteering their time and talent, our volunteers support a positive public opinion and understanding of hunting while also teaching new hunters the basics they need to have fun and stay safe while afield.
There are many ways to get involved, so volunteers can pick the program that best fits their interests and schedules. Consider volunteering with any of the following programs:
Mentored Hunting Law
This is a one-on-one method that gives novice hunters a chance to try hunting within arm’s reach of a qualified
mentor without first completing a Hunter Education course.
Learn To Hunt
Learn to Hunt programs offer more than four hours of classroom learning with field instruction before a novice goes hunting oneon-one with a mentor. Local organizations typically host Learn to Hunt programs for a group of novice participants.
Outdoor Skills Workshops
Outdoor Skills Events teach specific skills related to hunting and the outdoors, such as processing deer, firearm safety, shooting basics and cooking wild game.
Youth Hunts Special youth hunting weekends for wild turkey, white-tailed deer and waterfowl provide youth more time to hunt and gain valu-
able experience. Held prior to the normal hunting season, these seasons are open to residents and non-residents 15 years of age and younger.
Hunter Education
Becoming a volunteer Hunter Education instructor is a great way to help save lives, prevent injuries, meet people in your community and positively influence the attitudes and actions of other resource users.

Partnership will help launch on-farm sustainability program
Grande Cheese Company,
a Wisconsin-based manufacturer of fine Italian Cheeses and specialty whey and lactose products, announced a new partnership with the Farmers for Sustainable Food Climate-Smart Program today. Collaborating with these leading agricultural entities brings a farmer-led approach to environmental sustainability that generates industry data, information and onfarm best practice recommendations.
The FSF Climate-Smart Program was made possible by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities award. It targets initiatives committed to data-driven conservation practices and outcomes, with the purpose of sharing best practices across the farming industry and communicating collective impact to consumers.
The Grande project is the first processor-driven initiative incorporated into the FSF Climate-Smart Program.
“Adding a processor-led project into the FSF program allows us to further collaborate within the full dairy supply chain,” said Tim Trotter, FSF CEO. “The Grande project, like all the projects built in the program, is designed to address concerns or challenges unique to the project members.”
Grande Producer Partners (dairy farms) are encouraged to participate in the program, which comes at no cost to them, and depending on their level of participation, they receive a corresponding stipend. Farmers can receive up to $9,000 annually for program participation.
“Through our ongoing membership and relationship with FSF, we have seen first-hand the organization’s impact on farmer-led groups through its sustainability framework. We are excited to offer this program to our producer partners. This program aligns with our Social Responsibility Pillars, particularly our environmental stewardship pillar, and our commitment to protecting the planet,” said Greg Siegenthaler, Grande’s Vice President of Milk Marketing, Sustainability and Strategic Sourcing.
The FSF Climate-Smart Program is part of a nationwide program funded by USDA to provide three pillars: provide technical and financial assistance to producers to implement climate-smart production practices on a voluntary basis on working lands; pilot innovative and cost-effective methods for quantification, monitoring, reporting and verification of greenhouse gas benefits; and develop markets and promote the resulting climate-smart commodities.
The Grande project is expected to run for the duration of the five-year program and will generate annual outcomes for the participating farmers after each cropping year.
Grande, located in Southeastern Wisconsin, serves as a premier manufacturer of fine Italian Cheeses and specialty whey and lactose products.
Since the company began in 1941, it has been committed to sourcing the highest quality milk in the market by way of highly dedicated producers, committed to continuous improvement, innovation and reciprocal partnership. In turn, Grande proudly supports independent operators of pizzerias and Italian restaurants across the country. In addition to the Foodservice division, they boast a robust specialty whey and lactose product portfolio in their Custom Ingredients Group, providing ingredient solutions to both small and large food manufacturers across the globe.
Grande believes that continuously sourcing the greatest milk supply and producing world-class dairy products is possible only through the ongoing investment in its operations, the communities where they operate, and most importantly, its Associates.
