“My mom, Linda Kendrick, opened the store in 1990, and it has been family-owned ever since,” she said. “Customers flock to our store because of our delicious selection of glazed and flavored doughnuts, filled bars and twists, and our ever-popular French crullers, apple fritters and cinnamon rolls. We sell about 5,000 doughnuts every day.”

Co ee, hot chocolate, milk and seasonal drinks are also available. “We are always coming up with new flavors,” said Stewart.

Donut Country is open 4 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 4 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Many of the highly trained chefs at Shoji’s have been performing for years, serving fresh, hand-prepared meals.

The Japanese style of teppanyaki (stir-frying on a grill) comes as a meal with a show, as the chefs prepare meals at the table in front of the diners. The quick style of cooking captures the juicy goodness of the quality ingredients, explained John Cartmill.

The daughters agree it’s likely the authentic recipes and casual atmosphere that lure customers back again and again.

Opened in 2013, El Molcajete was named for the restaurant’s bestselling menu item. Variations of molcajete can be found around the valley but Maria Gonzalez said her family’s version is special because of the sauce from their home state of Jalisco. Patrons to the grill are treated to bean dip and chips when seated and sopapillas to end each meal.

Educating children since 1974, Grace Christian Preschool and Early Learning in Medford has 65 preschoolers and pre-kindergarteners enrolled this year. The preschool program begins for 3-year-olds and the pre-K program is for 4-year-olds.

“We are grounded as a faith-based school for the care and nurturing of the whole child,” said Tim Teterud, Grace Christian Elementary school principal. “It is evident to parents that their children are safe and cared for and learning at a developmentally appropriate level.
