Kelly’s Automotive Service

In 2003, shop owners Dave and Lisa Kelly took over an existing auto repair and maintenance shop in Grants Pass and brought their own family values to their business. Two years later, they opened a second shop in Medford. According to Lisa McClease-Kelly, the company’s goal is to do the personal things that other shops might not in order to develop a relationship with clients and keep those relationships for years to come. She tipped her hat to their staff, who she described as a group who share a “servant’s heart.” “We are in business to be a blessing to our communities,” McClease-Kelly said. “We do that through auto repair and community involvement. The fact that people notice and take the time to vote for us is amazing.”

We also have a complete line of clothing, gear and gifts for the fisherman,” said Olson. “Customer service is what sets us apart. We take care of the customers the best we can. From the initial sale to anything that might come up, we are here for them. We want to thank the readers for voting for us and we promise to continue to provide the very best in customer service.”

Star Body Works Serving the Rogue Valley since 1948, Star Body Works has grown to four locations in two counties. A collision repair service, their goal is to bring vehicles to pre-accident condition, said Mark Lamensdorf, the owner since 1989. According to Lamensdorf, each location is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and staffed by I-CAR and ASE-certified technicians. Star is certified by many manufacturers and is a preferred provider for the majority of auto insurers, he added. Being part of the community means giving back, said Lamensdorf, so Star Body Works invests in several local nonprofits and causes. “The community is the reason why we’re growing,” he said, attributing their expansion to a new location at Central and Jackson in Medford due to the needs of the community. “Because of you, everyone at Star expresses heartfelt gratitude for the support you’ve given us over the years to make us who we are today.”

She uses deep tissue and Swedish massage modalities most frequently, though she also performs hot stone massage, reflexology and maternity massage. “When my clients come in hurting and leave feeling 10 times better–that makes my day,” O’Neal said. “Clients tell me they love my pressure and that I know what spots to work.” Connecting with clients and creating an atmosphere that allows for being vulnerable is important to help release the tension people hold in their bodies, O’Neal explained. “Our environment is very relaxed and fun, and it’s an uplifting place to be,” she said. “Everybody needs to get a massage!”

According to Zagar and Jolee Wallace, the owner of Del Rio Vineyards, the winery’s customers feel at home when they visit the tasting room. “We’re the tiny tasting room with a big heart,” Zagar said. Byron Higinbotham considers himself a coach rather than a trainer. Higinbotham has devoted years to training for competitive Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Olympic Tae Kwon Do, Parkour, Functional Fitness and now a Rock Steady Boxing program for people fighting back against Parkinson’s disease. “I’ve been told I have a unique ability to see a person’s strengths and foster them,” Higinbotham said. “Some people are naturally athletically gifted, but others have to work hard for skills. I’m able find the one thing a student is good at and expand on it.” The Higs Gym coaches work together, using indoor and outdoor facilities to push, encourage and conquer small and large victories for members, all while having fun, Higinbotham said. They work with students of all ages, from children to seniors. “I’m honored by this recognition,” he said. “I’m incredibly grateful to our gym families, my coaches and the community for supporting our mission.”

We grew so quickly that we had to hire help. Ellen still personally trains each baker in order to maintain the quality we are known for. We have built a reputation for offering a good, solid, scratch cake. Nothing fancy, just good buttercream. We offer whole cakes or by the slice daily.” Holub said that Ellen’s special personal touch is in every recipe, whether it is a cake, pie, tart or cookie. Because the baked goods sell quickly, pre-orders are encouraged. “We make sure you can taste the flavor, not just the sugar,” said Holub. “Our baked goods are not overwhelmingly sweet. Of those, 77 have more than 10 years with the company, Ames said. He gave three examples of employees celebrating 39 years of service. “Frank Bartyzal, the company’s maintenance manager, is in charge of the recent remodel of the store,” Ames said. “As the technology manager, Mike Gray keeps all of the computers and cash registers going. Fred Inlow, our pricing manager, keeps up our competitive pricing.” Ames named another three employees with 40 years or more on the job. “Dan Gibson is in charge of receiving, and cashiers Walt Fipps and Renee West still welcome customers with a smile,” he said.

According to store manager Brad Skinner, customer service is what sets their business apart from other stores. “People who shop here receive individualized help,” he said. Additionally, Skinner said the employees at Grover Electric and Plumbing Supply stay with the store a long time, getting to know the customers. This includes Skinner, who has been with Grover Electric and Plumbing Supply for 20 years.

“We know a lot of our customers by name,” he said, adding the staff enjoy developing strong relationships with their customers. “If people work with the same employee multiple times, then they are comfortable at the store.”

Natural Grocers As part of the overarching philosophy at Natural Grocers, supplements must be as pure and healthful as any of the food for sale, according to Heather Isely, one of the founding family members and executive vice president of Natural Grocers. “We are very specific about the ingredients we allow,” she said. “For example, there are no artificial colors or talc in our supplements.” Even with these strict standards, Natural Grocers has one of the greatest selections of supplements available under one roof, Isely said. With so many choices, Natural Grocers emphasizes staff education. “There is always new research coming out, so we have continuous training for our staff and nutritional health coach,” she said. “We emphasize education because we know how empowering it is. We want our staff to be able to share that education with customers, so they in turn feel empowered to take care of their health.”
