Southern Regional College has been liaising with the Department for the Economy (DfE) on a new initiative to address the skills gaps at Level 4 and 5 within various industry sectors in Northern Ireland, thereby creating an alternative route to University. This development work has evolved into a fit for purpose Higher Level Apprenticeship (HLA) programme with targeted qualifications between Level 4 (HNC equivalent) to Level 8 (PhD equivalent), which meets the needs of business and provides realistic progression routes for the learner. The HLA programmes are targeted at students who have achieved an academic profile to a Level 3 standard e.g A-Levels or BTEC Extended Diploma at Level 3. HLAs enable employers to train staff to the level required as well as ensuring that there are people available with strong technical and good employability skills. As part of the entry criteria onto a HLA programme the apprentice must secure employment therefore adhering to the ‘earn-while-you-learn’ concept. The overall aim of HLAs is to equip young people with both the theoretical knowledge through the qualification and relevant work experience to be effective in any company.

Apprentice Application Process Stage 1. Complete both the application form and the employer additional information form. Attend a preenrolment information session where you will receive more information about your chosen course. You will be advised if you can progress to stage 2, if you meet or have the potential to meet the entrance criteria.

1. Employers are responsible for contacting you (the applicant) directly to invite you for interview. SRC are not involved in the shortlisting or interview process. Employers are responsible for contacting you (the applicant) directly to make you an offer of employment.

Stage 2. For applicants who receive a Conditional Offer from the SRC, your employer additional information form will be forwarded to a list of potential employers identified by SRC. Alternatively if you have an employer in mind you can contact SRC who will assess workplace suitability. You will progress to stage 3 if you meet the employer’s criteria for interview selection.

2. The HLA programme will run subject to sufficient enrolments. Although you may be in receipt of a FIRM letter of offer for the course, the college reserves the right to only run the course if sufficient enrolments are in place.

Stage 3. Interview stage - If following the interview stage you secure a conditional offer of employment under the Higher Level Apprenticeship programme you will progress to stage 4. Stage 4. Applicants must present evidence to SRC on A Level results day to prove that relevant A Level or equivalent qualifications have been achieved. Evidence of a conditional offer of employment must also be in place at this time Please note: Please be advised gaining entry onto the HLA prgramme is conditional on you securing employment. SRC will endeavour to support you to secure a job by sharing your Employer Additional Information form with SRC registered employers for shortlisting purposes. 3. Attendance is strongly recommended by all Higher Level Apprenticeship Applicants at the Southern Regional College’s Careers session. Invitations will be issued to advise date, time and location. 4. You are required to attend all interviews you are invited to during this process both for college and employer.

Costs There are no costs incurred as this is funded by the Department for the Economy and the European Social Fund through the HLA programme.

Programme Overview

Level 5 Apprenticeship Framework: Duration 2 years, 1 day per week from 9am-6pm for 32 weeks Southern Regional College

Accountancy practices and businesses that are offering a job opportunity for new employees

Students from further education and school leavers (Applicants who hold a HE qualification in a related discipline may not be eligible)

The apprenticeship framework will be at Level 5 and include the Accounting Technician Diploma as the main knowledge based component of the framework. Each apprentice will also undergo a specific induction programme (1 day induction) and an online mentoring programme which includes SRC and ATI. This apprenticeship aims to provide a structured environment where apprentices, under the supervision of a qualified mentor, develop the professional values, leadership, technical/functional competencies and the personal and interpersonal attributes that define the role of an accounting technician and chartered accountant. ATI is committed to providing training to all company mentors. The training is being provided to ensure consistency of ‘on the job’ programme standards and quality.

Entry Requirements Employers are seeking to attract applicants who have a keen interest in Accountancy. In addition applicants must: •

Possess a minimum grade B in GCSE Maths and grade C in GCSE English (or University approved equivalent*)

Have obtained a Level 3/A level or equivalent qualification equating to 96 UCAS points

Secure employment with an approved employer who will support you through the HLA programme.

Programme Overview

Learning & Assessment

The Foundation Degree in Applied Industrial Science (Chemical / Life Sciences) forms the underpinning knowledge for the Higher Level Apprenticeship programme. You will benefit greatly through this form of experiential learning by applying academic subject content in a work setting as well as developing a range of practical work related skills, decision making, communications, negotiating skills and teamwork. You will be assessed through class tests, oral presentations, individual and collaborative coursework assignments and examinations. A blended learning environment will be used to facilitate all aspects of teaching and assessment through webinars, podcasts and other digital learning tools.

Each project, activity and/or assignment that you complete will be assessed. These assessments indicate your level of performance and contribute to your final grade. This course will include lectures, tutorials, seminars and presentations, practical sessions (involving independent and team work), work-based learning and case studies. Students will also be supported outside of the College by a blended learning platform.

How You Benefit From This Qualification The overall aim of this Foundation Degree is to provide a sufficiently broad education in Applied Industrial Sciences that will ensure degree holders have gained appropriate skills to seek employment in Industry and are sufficiently equipped for further career enhancement. To assist in this aim an integral part of the programme will have an emphasis placed upon appropriate work-based learning in Years 1 and 2. This Foundation degree will equip students with the combination of technical skills, academic knowledge and transversal skills that local employers are demanding. Ongoing consultation with employers ensures the industrial relevance of the programme and a suitable range of career paths.

Delivery Students are required to attend SRC for 1 full day per week during term-time and the remaining 4 days will be based with an employer.

Entry Requirements •

All applicants will be required to hold a minimum C grade in GCSE Mathematics and English (or University approved equivalent*)

Have successfully studied and passed with Chemistry at Level 3 A Levels, BTEC Extended Diploma or Diploma in Adult Access (with an overall average of greater than 60% and with at least two science modules passed at a minimum of 60%)

Applicant must have achieved a minimum of 48 UCAS points on entry.

Programme Overview The Higher Level Apprenticeship (HLA) in Cloud Computing, Analytics and Security for Industry provides a clear and achievable progression route enabling you to train to a high level whilst gaining a professional qualification. Upon successful interview, you will be employed with a company for four days a week while attending college one day a week. Over a period of three years, you will work towards the achievement of a Foundation Degree in Cloud Computing, Analytics and Security for Industry incorporating modules such as Object Orientated Programming, Networking, Database Design and Cyber Security but we are proposing to introduce modules for specialism in - Cloud Computing, Data Analytics, IoT and Mobile Development and AI Fundamentals & Virtualisation Technologies. The HLA will also provide the opportunity to work on live projects within an IT company and hence gain work-based learning experience while developing the transferable skills essential to success in the industry. This programme will meet your requirements for personal and intellectual development and will open up new career avenues within the IT sector or provide you with a pathway to continue your studies at university.

Over the last 10 years the construction industry has undergone a revolution in digital construction with the development of Building Information Modelling/ Management (BIM) in the whole life cycle of the building and construction process. Graduates of all disciplines no longer just need the technical knowledge and skills to function effectively, they also need digital skills. This Higher-Level Apprenticeship is designed to bridge this skills deficit, providing a qualification that covers the traditional knowledge and skills required but enhanced with the digital skills needed to function effectively within the industry.

Programme Overview The digital marketing communications industry is growing exponentially globally, nationally and locally as indicated by the innovations of new technology, cloud technologies and mobile advances across businesses; the need for business to adapt to changing technologies and the plethora of job opportunities across the island of Ireland in specialist and management roles. This 2½ year Higher Level Apprenticeship intends to meet the industry demands and equip students with the ability to apply practical and theoretical skills gained in college and within an apprenticeship in a digital marketing, advertising or communication setting.

How You Benefit From This Qualification This course will enable you to develop a broad range of knowledge and practical skills appropriate to managers, consultants and entrepreneurs. Programme Overview

The need for this dynamic newly developed course is supported by research forecasting economic growth and job creation across many restaurants and hotels. Figures estimate some £2 million are being spent by tourists to NI every day (Tourism NI, 2019) – this rate of growth requires upskilling in a range of job roles including hospitality management and head chef positions.

How You Benefit From This Qualification This course will enable you to develop a broad range of knowledge and practical skills appropriate to managers within the hospitality sectors. The programme will run for one day per week over 2.5 years. Lecturers with a wealth of industry experience deliver on this, and are all highly qualified in the relevant disciplines. The aim of this HLA is to produce industry focused graduates who have an in-depth knowledge of the core principles of Hospitality with a practical understanding of how theory informs practice. It prepares them for a career in the wider sector, or progression to a higher qualification either through the professional bodies or university.

Programme Overview The Higher Level Apprenticeship in Mechatronics Engineering provides students with a broad education in aspects of Mechanical, Manufacturing and Electrical Engineering, which equips them for a career in industry. This course recognises the rapid growth and changes occurring within engineering and provides apprentices with the skills and knowledge to apply in an industrial environment and within their job role. This three-year Higher Level Apprenticeship is designed to equip apprentices with the ability to understand, utilise and develop the skills needed whilst working in the Engineering industry. It builds transferable skills in communication, team working and the ability to self-reflect.

As an employer you employ the apprentice from day 1 with a contract of employment – minimum of 21 hours per week (including directed training element).

Directed training in college must be paid as part of the apprentices’ contracted hours of work. Study leave paid allowance is at the discretion of the employer.

Programme duration is 2 years to 3 years depending on course.

If your company is offering the HLA opportunity to an existing staff member the employer must provide evidence to support the transfer into new role.

Higher Level Apprenticeship in Accounting Daly Park is a leading firm of Chartered Accountants with offices in Newry and Lurgan. With a wide range of clients in many sectors, we provide a client-focussed cross-border accounting and tax service and business support. We have successfully recruited Higher Level Apprentices through SRC for a number of years. Trace First was established in 2007, is a software company specializing in the creation and delivery of software for the collection, maintenance and use of animal health, traceability and diagnostic laboratory data. The company was founded on a thirty-year history of excellence in the agribusiness sector and maintains offices in Moira, Northern Ireland and Fort Collins, Colorado; we also have employees who work remotely from their bases in Texas and New York. After many years of successful development and delivery of animal health information systems to the USDA and individual State animal health entities, in 2015 we recognized the shortcomings of existing laboratory information systems and decided to create our own LIMS product as part of our CoreOne suite - CoreOne for Labs. We were chosen as the winning vendor at the conclusion of the Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory’s RFP process in mid-2018. They successfully went live with CoreOne for Labs on March 1st, 2019. We are currently implementing CoreOne for Labs for the Oregon State and Ohio State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratories.
