The need for this dynamic newly developed course is supported by research forecasting economic growth and job creation across many restaurants and hotels. Figures estimate some £2 million are being spent by tourists to NI every day (Tourism NI, 2019) – this rate of growth requires upskilling in a range of job roles including hospitality management and head chef positions.
How You Benefit From This Qualification
This course will enable you to develop a broad range of knowledge and practical skills appropriate to managers within the hospitality sectors. The programme will run for one day per week over 2.5 years. Lecturers with a wealth of industry experience deliver on this, and are all highly qualified in the relevant disciplines. The aim of this HLA is to produce industry focused graduates who have an in-depth knowledge of the core principles of Hospitality with a practical understanding of how theory informs practice. It prepares them for a career in the wider sector, or progression to a higher qualification either through the professional bodies or university.
Learning & Assessment
You will be assessed on a regular basis throughout the programme using a range of appropriate assessment methods such as written and practical assignments, exams, projects, case studies, and presentations.
Delivery
Students are required to attend Southern Regional College, Newry one full day per week during termtime and the remaining 4 days per week will be based with an employer.
Entry Requirements
• Entry requirements are pre-defined by the College’s admission criteria which are outlined here. As a guide, you should expect to have: • 64 tariff points (UCAS New tariff points for entry to Higher Education) • You must also have minimum of Grade C in GCSE Math & English (or equivalent) • All applicants must attend a Pre-Entry Advice and Guidance session. • Accreditation of Prior and Experiential Learning (APEL) may be used in certain circumstances

Progression Opportunities
Upon achieving a minimum of 60% in their HLA, opportunity to progress to year 2 of the BSc International Hospitality Management at UU Upon achieving a minimum of 60% in their HLA, opportunity to complete a summer bridging programme, and then entry into the final year of the BSc International Hospitality Management at UU (liable for bridging programme fees) Variety of employment opportunities for example Hotel manager/duty manager, Guest Relations Manager, Food & Beverage Manager, Hotel Receptionist, Food Service Host, Bartender, Barista, Concierge, Event Management.
