VYC Men Review – Round 14
Saturday June 26 v Dandenong @ Dandenong
WWeek ‘whatever’ sees the Sandringham Youth League Women’s team return to the court against Sunbury on Saturday, in a continuation of the longest season ever. Players who started the season as young women are now ready for the age pension.
We had a fantastic game against Sunbury at Sunbury back a few rounds, with the Sabres getting the chocolates after an enormous battle, 88-80. Maddison Ford torched us that day with 26, before having to leave to play football at ¾ time, and three other Sunbury players hit double figures. Sunbury are coming off a high scoring win against Dandenong last week, so the Sabres will need to ramp up our team defensive effort against an offense that has loads of scoring options, inside and outside the key.
The Sabres team is currently sitting in fourth spot in the Terrill Conference, but have a tough run home and need a win to maintain their position. Controlling the boards and ball movement on offense are going to be keys for Sabre success this week. The VYCM Sabres returned to their competition on Saturday night, unfortunately suffering a loss at the hands of Dandenong 84-69.
After a solid first half unfortunately the team let slip the lead it had possessed for nearly the entire half going in to the break down 4 points. In the second half, whilst the offence gained momentum, scoring 40 points, the defence suffered, giving up 51 points.
The team was led by an efficient Ben Charnley who had 13 points (100% FG, 100% FT) and 13 rebounds.
The Sabres move on to attack an Eltham team at home in what is sure to be a competitive matchup. The Wildcats had greater success on their first game back after the hiatus, getting over the line against Ringwood.
