Trevor DeRuisé of LOST BOY WINES may be an intrepid wanderer, but a ‘lost boy’ he is not, and one need only taste his exceptional wines to see he has found his calling.
Burn-out and wanderlust blew Trevor off the beaten path of professional bike racing in the United States to our shores. Having absorbed a passion for winemaking while in Los Angeles, where he kept the company of oenophiles, he landed in the Cape in 2018 with the goal of working a single harvest season. Unsurprisingly, Trevor fell ardently in love with the country’s staggering natural beauty, its people’s affinity for nature, and the welcoming community of winemakers. And so, he decided to throw himself into the lofty ambition of setting down roots in the rich coastal terroir of Gansbaai, near the southern tip of Africa, and making his own wines.
Four years later, the fruit of Trevor’s labour is LOST BOY WINES; a range of vibrant and bright wines that are among the most fragrant and aromatic we have ever encountered. Made small-batch, by hand, with Beaujolais-inspired techniques, Trevor transforms sun-ripened Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Cinsault, Pinot Noir, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes into wines that are fruit-forward yet elegant, and an honest expression of Africa’s only true cool-climate wine appellation. And being just as passionate about wildlife as he is about wine, Trevor donates R300 from every case of LOST BOY WINES sold to African wildlife conservation projects.
