“Within my first few weeks of living in Charlotte back in 2015, I found a lifelong friend and husband,” Amelia says. Erik and Amelia met after her roommate and good friend introduced them. Wanting to share their home city with the ones they love, the couple decided to have their wedding in uptown Charlotte. The ribbon twist of Amelia’s engagement ring’s band set the tone for many elements of the wedding, like her ceremony dress and their wedding cake. Her ceremony dress was a Pinterest discovery that she fell in love with. After calling around, Amelia discovered it was no longer in production, but she found one in Australia with the tags still on, unaltered and in her size.

CATAWBA FALLS Events

AN ELEGANT, SOUTHERN VENUE SURROUNDED BY NATURAL BEAUTY

Vows exchanged overlooking a gorgeous lake. Cocktails on the terrace with the sunset serving as a stunning backdrop. An elegant, seated dinner in front of a massive floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace. Sound perfect? It is – and can be – when your wedding is at Catawba Falls Events.

Located on the Catawba River in Lancaster, S.C., Catawba Falls is the premier venue destination for weddings in the Carolinas. “We are a location that touches the soul,” says Sherry Walden, who owns and operates the property with husband David. “You’re surrounded by nature’s beauty, from the lush forests to the magnificent lakeside views to the quiet spaces tucked away on the grounds. It’s a place where we work hard to make your dreams come true.”

Weddings are fully customizable at Catawba Falls. The property hosts only one wedding per day, so you have your choice of environment. For larger guest counts and optimum views, the Oak Amphitheater and the Arbor are ideal spots. The Ballroom and Jasmine Terrace also provide plenty of space. For more intimate

ceremonies, the Spider Lily Veranda and the Chestnut Haven may be preferred. An upscale bridal suite and groom’s room offer beautiful spaces for relaxing.

Catawba Falls can accommodate up to 200 guests, and each booking includes two hours that can be scheduled for engagement or bridal photos on the property. Couples may choose their own caterer and bartender from an extensive list of preferred vendors.

When building Catawba Falls three years ago, the Waldens wanted a venue that married timeless character and Southern charms with the sophisticated comforts of today. David’s background as a fifth-generation masonry contractor is evident throughout. In addition to the stone fireplace, you’ll find arches and saw-tooth patterns with a tumbled Charleston Harbor brick accented by white mortar, reminiscent of the South Carolina low country. Sherry wanted reclaimed lumber and added chandeliers and wall sconces for a soft, elegant touch. “We didn’t want Catawba Falls to be just another venue,” she says. “We wanted it to be a beautiful space that serves as a backdrop for unforgettable memories created by our clients.” After a visit to Catawba Falls, you’ll find just that.

ELEVATING the Experience

ROOTS CATERING DELIVERS MEMORIES CREATED AROUND EXCEPTIONAL FOOD

The details matter when planning one of the biggest events of your life. There is no challenge too big for Roots Catering by Roots Food Co. The high-end catering company executes more than 150 weddings a year and includes a team that collectively has more than two decades of experience in the event and wedding industry.

When Lexi and Cody approached Roots for a custom stations-style wedding, the culinary and event team designed an authentic, memorable experience that reflected the bride’s family’s favorites. The unique, mouthwatering menu offered more than 14 options between the cocktail hour and reception, including four additional custom stations with numerous offerings at each. From the elaborate grazing table filled with locally purveyed charcuterie, dips, accoutrements and fresh-caught seafood to an assortment of passed appetizers to custom stations, the team guaranteed this couple would have the elevated experience they dreamed of.

“At Roots, our goal is for guests to talk about a wedding for years to come,” says Executive Chef Craig Barbour. “Memories are created through excellent service, great food and exceptional people. Our entire team has a passion for what we do and demands the best out of ourselves.”

That dedication is what led Barbour to work overtime to ensure the grand, customizable 27-item poké station was the most culturally authentic offering, a detail important to the family. He visited local restaurant Umami PokéRito to taste the bride’s mother’s favorite poké rice and spent hours perfecting the menu to match the flavor profile of the dishes requested. Specific sauces, rice and condiments purchased from Hatoya in Pineville rounded out each bowl perfectly.

Each station was custom handcrafted by Carolina Reclaimed. Providing custom tables and rental pieces is yet another way Roots ensures attention to detail. Wedding Sales Executive Olivia Elliott’s thoughtful planning and thorough, prompt communication ensured the couple enjoyed the menu-planning process and their complimentary tasting and could confidently celebrate every minute of their wedding day.

After almost two years of planning due to the pandemic, Lexi was brought to tears seeing it come to fruition, Barbour says. “We strive to create a menu and experience that reflects the couple and their journey of love,” he says. “It’s gratifying to see the joy that comes from that.”
