Op-Ed State Rep. cites Trump move to nix Clean Power Plan as failure

O

f all the damage that the Trump administration has wreaked on America – from tearing apart our social fabric to trampling all over the rule of law – none is more dangerous than walking away from the Clean Power Plan. For those who have forgotten amid the international and domestic chaos of the last 15 months, the Clean Power Plan would have required gas and coal-fired power plants to cut their emissions of global warming carbon pollution by about 32 percent by 2030. The Clean Power Plan was an attempt to save the future. The planet is warming and the climate is destabilizing. The facts of climate change have been thoroughly measured, monitored, observed and documented by scientists for decades. In the face of these facts, it takes quite a feat of intellectual dishonesty to declare that global warming is a “hoax.” Yet, there are some on the crackpot fringe, some beholden to the fossil fuel industry, and many in the Republican Party, including the President and Scott Pruitt, who deny the reality of climate change, just as some still maintain that the earth is flat. The facts, however, have not gone entirely unnoticed by our government. In 2007, despite opposition from the Bush administration, the Supreme Court ruled that greenhouse gasses are pollutants, so they must be regulated by law under the Clean Air Act. President Obama, heeding the law, directed the Environmental Protection Agency to determine if global warming pollution presents a danger to public health and future generations. The EPA conducted an exhaustive two-year review of the science and gathered hundreds of pages of public input, and concluded that, indeed, greenhouse gas pollution poses a danger to those of us living now and to our descendants. After an arduous six-year process, the EPA issued the Clean Power Plan in 2015. It required states to submit plans detailing how they would meet the goal of cutting carbon pollution from coal-fired power plants, the largest source of greenhouse gas pollution, by 32 percent by 2030. That goal can be met if states adopt plans that will speed the development of renewable energy resources and emphasize energy efficiency and conservation technologies. Both those approaches would create thriving new industries, millions of new jobs, growing our economy while cutting carbon. Almost immediately, states with significant coal and gas resources sued to stop the implementation of the Clean Power Plan with the current EPA Administrator, Pruitt, taking a prominent role in the attack. In an unusual move in 2016, the Supreme Court stopped the implementation of the Clean

sider the merits of the controversy. But the Clean Air Act’s legal requirement to regulate carbon remains, so shortly after he took office, President Trump signed an executive order directing Pruitt to rewrite the Clean Power Plan regulations. In October of last year, Pruitt formally repealed the regulations, but did not propose a replacement. The repeal of the Clean Power Plan and Trump’s withdraw from the Paris Agreement to reduce global carbon emissions, which is signed by 195 countries, puts us on a dangerous path to destabilizing the climate that has fostered human progress for thousands of years. Ironically, also in October of last year, the United Nations issued a report warning that the atmospheric concentration of carbon has reached its highest level in 3 million years. In walking away from the Clean Power Plan, Trump and Pruitt are walking away from legal obligations, sustainable economic growth, and a safe climate for generations to come. They are walking away from the future. State Rep. Greg Vitali

Writer urges voters to weigh candidates’ records on abortion The letter from Sheryl Forste-Grupp (“Former campaign colleague urges Vitali vote for new district,” April 25) persuaded me to look up the new congressional district map. I was surprised to learn that South Philly is divided between two new districts, 3 and 5. My address falls in District 3, so I will not be eligible to vote for or against Greg Vitali in the May primary. Ms. Forste-Grupp is correct that there are at least 10 other candidates worthy of consideration for the office of U.S. Rep. from District 5. I strongly suggest that all Democratic voters examine the policies of all those candidates, as I plan to do for

District 3. I am looking especially for a candidate who cares about issues pertaining to children like education, health care and pollution. Certainly Mr. Vitali has a record of promoting things like clean environment and gun safety which help keep children safe. However, I was taken aback by his strong position on what Ms. Forste-Grupp terms “reproductive decisions.” That means he would support abortion if the mother chooses it. So on one hand Mr. Vitali and others like him, who are running for Congressional seats, would fight for laws that ban or limit deadly weapons used in school shootings, while simultaneously allowing the use of dismemberment abortion to end the lives of thousands of unwanted, unborn children. Does anyone else see the contradiction in those two positions? Gloria C. Endres

ITALIAN MARKET: Annual spring festival keeps traditions alive

<<Continued from page 1 Flashforward several decades, nearly 50,000 people – many still South Philadelphians, some from across the city and beyond – continue to convene in the heart of the Italian Market every May, embracing entertainment, culture, and, of course, cuisine. For the 17th consecutive year, the South 9th Street Italian Market Festival will take place on May 19 and 20 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. From greased poles and porchetta to dance music and yoga mats, this year’s festival features a fusion of old customs with new ways. The annual May event experienced a few phases over the years, evolving in some regard, yet retaining core traditions. The original festival, described as “The Walk, dates back to the 1950s and lasted through the 1980s. After a hiatus in the mid- to late-1990s, Gambino, while working on the city-wide the Book and the Cook 20 years ago, connected with a Sorrento cheese merchant, sparking the annual festival’s current rendition. “A lot of it was a throwback or left over from what they were used to, she said. “The festival that you see today has been completely switched around, revised, changed to accommodate the needs of today. While logistics like security measures had to be considered in the revamped event, Gambino says, in the genesis, one concept was certain. “We knew that it really revolved around food, she said. “We knew it was the star of the festival, and it still is. And, so we knew that food was key. And we also knew that people wanted to come for entertainment. Since the launch 17 years ago, the event has grown nearly tenfold, as now more than 60 vendors and four performance stages occupy a city within the city. The festival occupies six blocks north to south – from Wharton to Fitzwater – and two blocks west to east from 8th to 10th. Scattered throughout the 10-block bubble are various events, including the Spread the Wiz Zone full of familyoriented fun at Pat Steak’s, and the Get Fit Zone at Christian and Delhi streets, which will provide yoga classes and push-up bar challenges. The weekend also will see an antique Italian car show, an assortment of artist vendors, beer and wine gardens,

Michele Gambino, business manager of the South 9th Street Italian Market and producer of its annual spring festival, inspects a 30-foot high flagpole located by the visitor’s center. The pole will be used in the festival’s Grease Pole Climbing Competition. Although the competition was implemented two years ago, the activity echoes the old Italian tradition of Albero Della Cuccagna.

If you go: The South 9th Street Italian Market Festival will take place on May 19 and 20 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, visit www.italianmarketfestival.com. the John Marzano Half Ball Tournament and the Grease Pole Climbing Competition, which echoes the old Italian tradition of Albero Della Cuccagna. The lineup of artists will feature festival staples like pop singer Felicia Punzo and DJ Johnny Looch to newbies like Don’t Call Me Francis Band and dance music group Go Go Gadjet. While there will be cannolis galore,

the festival welcomes the food of new merchants that have recently popped up on 9th Street, including Latin eateries that shared empanadas and more at recent festivals. “We’ve always been a street of immigrants, so they’ve embraced that immigrant history and tradition, Gambino said. “That’s opened up a whole new aspect of food. On that Sunday, at 11 a.m. the festival’s focal point – the Procession of Saints – commences, starting at Saint Mary Magdalen de’ Pazzi Church. The walk pauses for the Blessing of the Market at 9th and Washington. Then it concludes at St. Paul Catholic Church. Pinning the saints with ribbons, money and prayers, Gambino says it’s

the one event in the festival that draws effort from the entire community – the very idea that keeps alluring thousands of folks back to the weekend-long spectacle each year.

“I think (the festival is) really a sense of community, and I think that’s the one thing South Philly has held onto ‌ I think food provides that sense of warmth for everybody,â€? Gambino said.

Paradigm Arts patrons can explore the work of Kensington-based artist Drew Leshko, who created 12:1 scale sculptures of buildings in the Fishtown and Kensington neighborhoods. Pictured at right is one of the full-scale counterparts.

East Passyunk gallery exhibit highlights scale replicas of Kensington, Fishtown landmarks

signs. Sacred Lands, however, features 12:1 scale replicas of buildings found throughout the Kensington/Fishtown area, and it’s currently on display at Paradigm Arts, 746 S. 4th St., in the East Passyunk Neighborhood. “I wanted to have something with a little bit more depth that doesn’t immediately speak to the viewer, Leshko said, “but with conversation it becomes apparent. The name Sacred Lands comes from

the evolution of the Fishtown/Kensington area, dating all the way back to when the locale was predominantly inhabited by Native American settlers. At that time, the area was referred to as Shackamaxon. Since that time, it’s evolved into the bustling hub of young working professionals it is today. “They’re the older buildings that have a story to tell, Leshko said. “They’ve aged a bit. Leshko said he approached the idea like a documentary photographer. He wanted to document the current state of the buildings at their current point in time. “I hope the show will encourage people to think about the past and use it to build a better future. The gallery features a number of buildings that are no longer in existence in the neighborhood, and also some that are still standing to this day. Leshko said the sculptures are made “90 to 95 percent of paper. When he

finishes the paper sculptures, he then mounts them to wooden panels. Leshko, who has been living in the Kensington/Fishtown neighborhood for approximately 12 or 13 years, has had a front-row seat to the gentrification of the area. “When I was just getting started with this series, I was just making the local bodegas,â€? Leshko said. “I saw those are the first businesses being run out of the neighborhood. ‌ Some of the new neighbors are less inclined to go buy these types of food when maybe they’re more interested in a [supermarket like] Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s.â€? When he first moved into the neighborhood, he said residents didn’t have to walk far for groceries. “These bodegas sustained for a very long time, and with this new dynamic, it seems a little bit different than that,â€? he said. He also noticed many of the vacant lots in his neighborhood are now homes

to four-story structures, making the area more dense. “Everything is so dense now, and there’s something that was really nice about having vacant lots in the area, he said. “Things didn’t feel so congested. But Leshko isn’t souring on the neighborhood; he still loves where he lives and doesn’t see anything wrong with developers capitalizing on opportunities. “No one can be blamed for that, he said. “I think it’s important to say that these works examine the evolution of the city and gentrification. As a photographer would capture a moment in time, they’re just documenting today. I think that each sculpture that I make is a case by case in that way. The exhibition is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from noon to 6 p.m. until May 19. For more information about the exhibition, visit paradigmarts.org.

Nicknames

ncle Nunzi doesn’t think I’m a “regular guy.” As he made his proclamation, Uncle waved his stogie in the air as if he were Eugene Ormandy conducting a symphony. According to Uncle, being born and raised in South Philly, I should have a nickname. “Every regular South Philly guy has a nickname.” I tried to defend myself by pointing out that “Tom” is a nickname for Thomas, which is my proper first name. Uncle wasn’t buying it. He doesn’t consider “Tom” a bona fide South Philly nickname. In Uncle’s mind, a genuine South Philly nickname must be colorful. “Tom” is ordinary, he pointed out. Tom could be from anywhere. As Uncle put it, I could be any “Tom, Dick or Harry.” I challenged Uncle to tell me his South Philly nickname since “Nunzi” obviously was also ordinary. “Knuckles,” he replied. Imagine my surprise. I had known Uncle Nunzio all my adult life and never heard anyone refer to him as “Knuckles.” I demanded an explanation. Uncle explained that he when he came to this country as a teenager, he became adept at a game known as “Knuckles.” I was familiar with the game. The loser of the game suffered a rap on the knuckles from the opposing players. Some guys came up with ingenious methods for dealing out the punishment. I usually wound up being the one with badly scraped knuckles after an afternoon of playing. I bowed politely to Uncle, proud to be in the company of “Knuckles Nunzio.” “Here I thought you were only the briscola champ” (an Italian card game at which Uncle had no peer). Our conversation drifted to guys in the old neighborhood with nicknames. For some strange reason, we tended to Americanize Italian surnames of some of the guys. There was “Cabbie” Ryan and Danny “Ryan.” Few people knew their real surnames, but it definitely wasn’t “Ryan.” And neither of the “Ryans” were related. My Uncle Charles DeFeo was known on the corner as “Chibby Brown.” I think “Brown” was used fairly often for guys from South Philly because it rhymed with “downtown.” Thus, Chibby Brown became “Chibby Brown from downtown.” “Chibby” is a nickname used in the neighborhood for Charles, except my Uncle’s real first name was Pasquale. Go figure. Another truth was revealed. South Philly nicknames could replace surnames as well as first names. One of the guys was nicknamed “Billy Swamp Water.” I never did find out why Billy’s nickname was “Swamp Water,” which is not a name that conjures pleasant images. There weren’t any swamps around 9th and Wolf so far as I could tell. We shortened “Swamp Water” to “Swampy,” not that it made him more appealing, if you ask me. Some of the nicknames made sense. Joe “Flash” was handsome and a sharp dresser. Joe was “Pee Wee” because he was short of stature.

Tony Forte was “Fritz” because he had blonde hair. Ralph was “Moozie,” short for mozzarella. Never knew if he had a fondness for cheese. A local bartender was “Half Point,” because he always bet the team getting half a point on the betting line. He once overheard one of us refer to him as “Half Ass.” Suffice it to say, it didn’t go over so well. An older guy who played ball with us was nicknamed “Ginger Beer.” “Ginger” always played with a lit cigar in his mouth. The cigar never left his lips. One of the most beloved characters on our corner was “Snaz.” Snaz’s real name was John Guglielmo. We used “Williams” as the surname for the “Guglielmo” family. It is unclear whether this was another example of our anglicizing Italian surnames or if there is a linguistic basis for this translation. Whatever the reason, the Guglielmo family that owned the luncheonette on the corner of 9th and Wolf in the ‘50s and ‘60s, was known to us as the “Williams” family. None of this explains why our friend was referred to as “Snaz.” There were even times when “Snaz” became “Snock Bagel.” Why a longer name? I don’t think you’ll find a “snock bagel” at SOUTH PHILLY BAGELS. Snaz likely never ate a bagel in his life. As far as I know the only loyalty displayed by Snaz to his real surname “Guglielmo” was his fondness for the Notre Dame quarterback of that era, Ralph Guglielmi. Admittedly “Guglielmi” is not quite the same as “Guglielmo,” but it was close enough for Snaz to take pride in the similarity. Sometimes Snaz allowed that pride to color his betting habits. He wagered on Notre Dame no matter what the odds or circumstances so long as Ralph Guglielmi quarterbacked the team. And unfortunately for Snaz, not always successfully. Other nicknames from the neighborhood come to mind. There were Ralphie “Day” and Rudy “Shmay.” I never did find out what their real names were. My sense is that Rudy got the nickname “Shmay” only because it rhymed with his pal’s nickname “Day,” but it could’ve been the other way around. Both guys were equally hittable when they pitched in our stickball games. Together with Joe “Blondie,” they formed an inseparable trio. “Blondie” was so named because of his blonde hair. He caught while Day and Shmay pitched. Day called Blondie “governor.” Many balls were roofed off Day and Shmay. Fortunately, Day, Shmay, and Blondie bought all the pimple balls. By the carton.

Point Breeze to cap Night Market Philadelphia season

NIGHT MARKET PHILADELPHIA Popular street food event returns to South Philly roots October 4.

By Mark Daniels SOUTH PHILLY REVIEW

oint Breeze is set to play host to the final Night Market Philadelphia event of the season, according to The Food Trust – a nonprofit focused on providing access to healthy food that organizes the popular annual affair. Look for food trucks to descend on 20th and Federal streets between 6 and 10 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4. The Food Trust started its farmers market program in the South Philly neighborhood in 1992 and has grown its efforts since then around the sporadic street food festival inspired by the sprawling outdoor markets of Asia and all that they offer. Night Market Philadelphia’s take on the Far East meets the Northeast has translated into a celebration of the city’s diverse cuisine with dozens of mobile food vendors, live music and entertainment at the roving event. This year’s offerings kick off Thursday, May 17, in the city’s Burholme section at Cottman and Rising Sun avenues from 6 to 10 p.m. Additional Night Market events this summer include Thursday, June 21, from 7 to 11 p.m. at 13th and Locust streets in the Gayborhood and Thursday, Aug. 9, from 6 to 10 p.m. at Frankford Ave. and York St. in Kensington. For the latest information on vendors, transportation and parking as the event draws near, visit thefoodtrust.org/night-market.

EAGLES INSIDER

I

The Eagles’ process has proven to be trustworthy

t was a plan put in place in 2016, once the Eagles made the move to draft Carson Wentz: With a franchise quarterback in place, the next order of business, over the course of two to three years, was to surround Wentz with weapons. Now that the 2018 NFL draft is in the rear-view mirror, the plan is very much in order. By taking tight end Dallas Goedert in the second round of the draft last week, and with the selections of some young prospects for the offensive line, and then by re-signing running back Darren Sproles, the Eagles think they have as potent and diverse an offense as they’ve ever had. “It’s the most versatile that we’ve had since I’ve been here,” head coach Doug Pederson said. “There are a lot of things we can do in terms of creating favorable matchups, and that’s what this league is all about.” OK, OK, let’s back up here: The Eagles led the NFL in scoring when Wentz was healthy in the 2017 season

and, yes, they won the Super Bowl. The offense was pretty darn outstanding, including lighting up the New England Patriots for 41 points in Super Bowl LII. But what the Eagles have put together now, well, on paper it looks a notch better than even last year’s attack. With Goedert, a standout at South Dakota State who has size (6 feet 5), speed and good route-running skills to

Dave

Spadaro

go along with great hands and natural pass-catching skills, teamed with Zach Ertz, the Eagles should have two tight ends who will be very tough to cover. Put a safety on either of them and the tight ends will outsize the defense in coverage. Use a linebacker in coverage and both Ertz and Goedert will run faster than the defender to get open. The Eagles had success last year with Ertz and Trey Burton, but Goedert is at a totally different level than Burton. He’s far more advanced coming into the league. Combine two versatile tight ends with Sproles, who is almost impossible to cover in a short area, moving around the formation, and Wentz is going to have his choice of options in the pass-

ing game. “Week to week, game to game, we can give defenses a lot of different looks,” Pederson said. “It’s something we’re really going to work on and hone as we get closer to September.” A strong offensive line, bolstered by the anticipated return of left tackle Jason Peters, leads the way. The Eagles dominated at the line of scrimmage last season. They have a chance to do the same this year. The wide receiver group replaced Torrey Smith with Mike Wallace, who is basically a faster, maybe more explosive version of Smith. Now the Eagles have Alshon Jeffery and Wallace on the outside, with an on-thecome Mack Hollins pushing for playing time. Nelson Agholor is no longer

a “bust” candidate after his breakout 2017 season and he should be a dynamic player in the offense. Running the football will be Jay Ajayi, who is now fully integrated into the system. Ajayi is primed for a big season, and he’s backed up by Corey Clement, coming off a great Super Bowl and expected to take a big leap in his second season. Sproles adds to the mix as well. The Eagles don’t have the classic “big back,” but there will opportunities to add one should they see a need. Add it up and the offense is lined up for sensational results in 2018. The draft added key pieces. The Eagles added immediate impact and exciting possibilities.

Brianna Mahon is part of a growing crop of female drivers who take part in the rooster-tailing, steelcrushing sport of monster truck driving. Look for her behind the wheel of Whiplash this Saturday, May 5, at Lincoln Financial Field.

This is a Mahon’s world: By Tom Beck

SOUTH PHILLY REVIEW

O

n Saturday, May 5, at 7 p.m., 13 monster trucks will grace the surface of Lincoln Financial Field for a racing competition, a two-wheel skills challenge and a freestyle competition. The racing competition is selfexplanatory, but the two-wheel skills challenge is a competition to see which monster trucks can do the coolest wheelies and “stoppies” for the fans. The fans will vote for their favorite performance using their smartphones. The freestyle competition is similar; monster truck drivers will have the entire Linc to run over cars, and do doughnuts and

backflips for fans, who will again vote for their favorite performance using their smartphones. Monster Jam bills itself as “one of the only sports where male and female world-class drivers, some generational rivals, are equals competing for the same championship on the same track.” “I always like to tell people that you pay for the whole seat, but you’ll only need the edge,” said Brianna Mahon, the driver of a truck called Whiplash. A variety of other trucks will be present in addition to Whiplash, including Black Pearl, Grave Digger, Great Clips Mohawk Warrior, Hurricane Force, Lucas Oil Crusader, Max-D, Mutant, Over Bored, Saigon Shaker, Son-Uva Digger, Team Hot Wheels Firestorm,

and VP Racing Fuel’s Mad Scientist. This will be the first time Mahon, who is one of an increasing number of women to enter the sport, visits Philadelphia. “This is a brand new stop for me so I’m excited,” she said. What does she know about Philly? “Not a whole lot,” she said. “Just that the fans there love it though.” Mahon, who previously competed in motocross and sprint car/dirt track racing before making the leap to monster trucks, said her truck has a very “southern and southwest look to it.” “It’s designed around my personality and what I’ve brought to Monster Jam,” she said of her truck, which is based off of a 1941 Willy’s body.

Rookie-to-Philly Monster Jam driver set for event at The Linc New in 2018 is a Pit Party Early Access pass available for purchase with an event ticket. The upgraded pass provides early entry in to the Pit Party, a pre-show event where fans can buy merchandise and get autographs from the drivers, on May 5 from 2-3 p.m. The Pit Party Early Access pass gives fans the opportunity to get up close and personal to the Monster Jam trucks and drivers before general admission arrives at 3 p.m. It also will serve as a regular Pit Party pass from 3-6 p.m. with the general public. Monster Jam drivers are only in the Pit Party signing autographs until 5 p.m. “That’s a really awesome thing we started doing,” Mahon said. “Come in an hour before Pit Party opens. There’s

no line. Get autographs and merchandise before everybody else.” You’ll also get an opportunity to chat with the drivers, where you’ll discover that many of them are just regular people like you. For instance, Mahon owns a hair salon. “I do hair during the week, and I drive a truck on the weekends,” Mahon said. “People back home don’t think I look like a truck driver, and people at the shows don’t think I look like somebody who owns a hair salon.” For more information about purchasing tickets, which start at $15, for Saturday’s Monster Jam at Lincoln Financial Field, visit lincolnfinancialfield.com and click on “events calender” under the “events” tab.

Diggerland USA, the “Construction Theme Park”, Opens for Season with Massive Expansion

Bill Doughser Special Reporter CONSTRUCTION NEWS

What’s New This Year:

Kids are in the driver’s seat of real modified construction equipment at Diggerland USA. DIGGERLAND USA PHOTOS

Diggerland USA, is a construction-themed adventure park covering 21 acres of centrally-located land in Camden County, NJ. The park offers visitors (children and adults alike) the opportunity to operate full size excavators, dumper trucks, and backhoes among a range of other heavy machinery in a safe, family-friendly environment. Located in West Berlin, NJ, visiting Diggerland is about a 20-minute drive from Philadelphia. In November of 2017 the park broke ground on a multi-million dollar, 7+ acre expansion. This capital improvement project, which includes 5 new attractions, was completed last March just as Diggerland opened for the 2018 season. Currently the park is open every weekend, but will move to a daily operating schedule in mid-June as schools release for summer break. So what’s new this year? Well, lots! Let’s start with the rides.

The new Ventrac tractor allows guests 36 inches tall to operate with a parent, and those 48 inches can ride alone. DIGGERLAND USA PHOTOS

The Ventracs The Ventrac 3400Ys offer Diggerland guests the unique opportunity to drive and operate a hydrostatic compact tractor, a very unique looking one to say the least. While the park already has over 25 attractions comprised of excavators, asphalt rollers and even amphibious vehicles, the new fleet of Ventracs was the first class of tractors the property added. These unique machines were debuted by Diggerland at the Philadelphia Auto Show exhibit. Elevation Station For the average person, taking a joy ride up in an aerial scissor lift, traditionally used in building maintenance, warehousing, and construction, might just be a fantasy. Leave it to Diggerland to make dreams come true. “Elevation Station,” which seats five guests across a 6 foot wide by 20 foot long operating platform, raises thrill seekers up into the sky, reaching a maximum height just under 60 feet in a modified Genie GS-5390RT rough terrain scissor lift. Farm Tractors This fleet of Kubota B2601 tractors gives guests the opportunity to interact with a line of machinery commonly found in the agricultural sector. Park patrons at least 48” can drive the new Farm Tractors while children between 36” and 48” may lap ride on the machines with an adult. Rugged Rider RTVs The park has 3 new Kubota RTV-900s, rough terrain vehicles most commonly used in hard to access areas such as forestry, beaches, and public works projects. “The RTV’s are comfortable, versatile, and easy to operate but they also have a unique rugged look which makes them fun and a perfect fit for the park.” Notes Park Owner, Ilya Girlya. The Rugged Riders are be available for guests 48” and over to drive and those 42” and taller to enjoy as a passenger. The Soaring Eagle Zipline Perhaps the largest of the new attractions is a 700-foot Soaring Eagle Zip Line, spanning nearly the HQWLUH IRRWSULQW RI WKH SDUN 5LGHUV ZKR DUH DW OHDVW Ǝ

tall will experience heights up to 130 feet off the ground, flying over the property in pairs of two. If you look to your right, at the top of the launch tower, you’ll the Philadelphia skyline! “We’ve done a tremendous amount of research over the past year determining how we can add the greatest amount of value to our guests’ experience,” said Ilya Girlya, Co-President and owner of the park.

What Else is New Aside from new rides, the expansion also includes the addition of a corporate events and groups pavilion, a climate controlled dining and party pavilion for birthday celebrations, an expanded parking infrastructure, and upgrades to the Diggerland XL Program a heavy machinery experience for adults with one-on-one instruction and package options that include thrills such as car smashing with an excavator. Unique and themed perfectly to fit the park guest will also find a new concession building and guest restroom facilities, are all being fabricated by the Diggerland team from used shipping containers. “Using the recycled containers as part of the project made lots of sense for us,” said Yan Girlya, Co-President of Diggerland. “Our guests appreciate the unique construction motif of the property which we carry from ride design all the way through to infrastructure,” he added. Interested in visiting the park? Use promo code BSM1804 to save $5 on your over 42” day tickets online.
