Leamington Goodfellows forced to cancel hampers

LEAMINGTON — This week’s move to Red Level status for the area has claimed another victim in the annual Leamington Mersea Goodfellows Christmas Hamper program.

The Goodfellows made the difficult decision to cancel over the weekend after the province announced the new public health measures to battle COVID-19.

With the LDSS students Can Drive cancelled in November, it left the Goodfellows to fill the hampers and distribute them, but the move to Red Level status sealed the deal as only five people would be allowed to work together at a time.

The uncertain circumstances forced them make the decision.

It is hoped that the program can get back on track when the restrictions are lifted and things return to a semblance of normal.
