C-K releases report on woodlot motion

CHATHAM-KENT – On April 26, 2021, Chatham-Kent Municipal Council approved a motion that introduced a temporary woodlot removal bylaw for 120 days.

The motion also directed administration to launch a full public engagement process to seek the public’s input to develop options to manage woodlots in Chatham-Kent.

A report from administration on council’s Woodlot Preservation Motion is scheduled for the August 23, 2021 council meeting immediately following the regularly scheduled planning meeting.

To provide the public with more time to review the report, it is being released a few days in advance and it can be viewed here: https:// www.chatham-kent.ca/localgovernment/council/meetings/Pages/Council-Meetings.aspx

Given the amount of feedback already received over the past few months, the municipality is asking that any new deputations be focused on the recommendations contained in the report and limited to two minutes in duration. Formal deputations should be emailed directly to the Municipal Clerk’s office at CKclerk@chatham-kent.ca.

Should individuals feel they have additional information they would like to share, this should be done through the Council Contact Portal at https://portal.chatham-kent.ca/ forms/council/contact.

A significant amount of feedback was received and a number of comments were made by respondents from across the political spectrum throughout the engagement process suggesting that additional consultations are warranted and should be pursued before a final decision is made.
