Barons double up on Amherstburg Seniors

LEAMINGTON — The Leamington Junior Barons traveled to Amherstburg to play the Senior team on the weekend and came away with a 10-5 victory.

Dawson Iles and Cat Morin shared the duties on the mound, combining for 10 strikeouts.

The Barons started the scoring with two runs in the top of the first, but Amherstburg countered back with five of their own in the bottom of the inning.

That would be the end of Amherstburg’s offence. Once the Barons’ pitching settled down and the bats came alive, they regained their dominance on the field.

Kameron Wall was once again the leader at the plate with three doubles. Anthony Fehr, Dawson Iles and Mickey Wiebe helped out with two hits apiece. Leamington base runners combined for seven stolen bases.

“Amherstburg couldn’t compete with our quickness,” said coach John Wall. “We had a slow start but once the boys found their groove, we started playing Barons’ baseball. I was very impressed with Dawson Iles’ first start this year.”

The Barons next play in Tecumseh tonight, Wednesday, July 21, 7 p.m. at Lacasse Park.
