On June 29, the UFCW 175 and 633 members held their annual leukemia fundraiser barbecue in the parking lot of the Cavendish production plant in Wheatley.

Onsite personnel from the day and afternoon shifts of Cavendish and Milo Fais — for a nominal fee — were treated to a feast of burgers, hot dogs, chicken breast and an assortment of Cavendish appetizers.

Union representatives travel throughout the province at selected facilities holding these barbecues, with all funds raised donated to leukemia research.

Prior to COVID, this annual event had raised thousands of dollars.

About 180 people took part in this year’s festivities, with tomatoes and other produce donated by Lakeside Produce and Mucci Farms. Anything left over was donated to the Leamington Food Bank.
