Making Waves
utumn is one of my favorite seasons to explore the South Shore. The air is crisp, the sunshine is golden, and nearly every weekend is brimming with food fests and pumpkin picking. While northern New England is renowned for its vibrant foliage, the South Shore also showcases vibrant colors–you just need to know where to look. Be sure to check out our photo essay, which features beautiful fall images by Marshfield photographer Heather Tradd, as well as our “Viewfinder” story, which features a stunning autumn image by photographer Mark Grandmont.
If you’re interested in spicing up your fall cooking, you need look no further than Plympton’s Hippy Pilgrim farm stand. Check out writer Judy Fosdick’s feature, “For the Love of Garlic,” to learn how business owner Susannah Locketti turned her passion for garlic salt into a popular artisanal seasonings brand. While you’re at it, you can whet your palate looking over some of Locketti’s favorite fall recipes. Beer lovers will appreciate writer Ann Luongo’s “Brewery News” feature, which spotlights some of the region’s recent beer happenings and newest (or soon-to-open) taprooms worth visiting.
Every year, we dedicate a large portion of our fall issue to stories that highlight inspirational women on the South Shore. Writer Juliette Pennington’s story, “Movie Studio Maven,” shines a light on the life of Hingham resident Marina Cappi, a single mother of two young children who has single-handedly transformed New England’s film industry by opening Marina Studios (one of the country’s only woman-owned film studios) at Marina Bay in Quincy. Similarly, our “Empowering Women in Business” section is filled with inspiring career stories of local women who have turned their dreams into reality. In addition, writer David Kindy interviewed Nancy Rubin Stuart, the executive director of the Cape Cod Writers Center and author of numerous books that document the lives of notable women in American history.
Read Judy Fosdick’s feature, “Rediscovering The Art Complex Museum,” to see a different type of local color. Celebrating its 50+1 anniversary, the museum recently reopened following a long closure for renovations. If you’ve never been before (or if it’s been a while since your last visit) now would be a great time to experience the beauty inside and on the grounds of this fantastic arts institution. Don’t forget to check our calendar for a listing of great community events happening in the coming months.
Lastly, if you subscribe to South Shore Home, Life & Style, we recently sent you a free copy of our newest annual publication, Hingham Life. We’re so excited to finally be sharing it with our readers! Be sure to follow us on Instagram @hinghamlifemag, as well @southshorehls, and Facebook @southshorehomelifestyle.
- Enjoy
