IN YOUR 30S

You may see a little crinkling at this age. The eyes are the most dynamic area of the face, and the most delicate, so if you constantly smile, squint and tug (as you apply eye makeup, for example), the wear and tear will eventually carve out small crow ’ s feet at the sides of your eyes.

YOUR SKIN STRATEGY

Now is the time for prevention. Treat your sunglasses as more than an accessory – they ’ll minimise squinting and help protect your skin from UV rays. Make applying a nourishing and moisturising eye cream a daily habit to help keep the eye area plump and smooth.

If your lines are deepening at what seems to be an accelerated rate (this can be genetic) and you want to go down the injectable road, you could start with a conservative dose of anti-wrinkle injections beside each eye once or twice a year to minimise your daily squinting. 1 Eye Cream Line T, $109, Suzanne Kaufman. 2 Line Smoothing Complex S8 Intensive Action Caviar Eye Serum, $79.95, Dr. LeWinn ’ s. 3 Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado, $52, Kiehl’ s. 4 Ageless Dissolving Microneedle Patches, $140/4 patches, ESK Evidence Skincare.

YOUR MAKEUP MANTRA

You don 't need to amend your 30s makeup or liner habits yet, ju be aware sheer and creamy st formulas look better than matt. Ditto for concealer.

1 It’ s true – your eyes age faster than any other part of your face. But that process can be switched to slo-mo. These customised-bydecade plans will help make your eyes look as fresh as you feel

40s Your undereye skin texture is an issue this decade. A loss of collagen can make it crepey and accentuate fine lines. You may start seeing more darkness under your eyes – even after a good night’ s sleep.

As the skin thins, blood vessels under your eyes can be more apparent. Other causes of blue/purple shadows are vascular congestion (blood flow slows in the undereye capillaries) and thinning of your cheek fat pads, which can cause hollows that cast undereye shadows.

YOUR SKIN STRATEGY

If you haven ’t already started using retinol at night, now is the time. It will promote the production of skin-firming collagen. Also use a good moisturising eye cream. Hydrating the area helps to plump up the skin and will make any fine lines less obvious.

If you ’ re up for it, well-placed anti-wrinkle injections can work wonders in diminishing lines and wrinkles. They help to minimise movement around the eyes and prevent fine lines from deepening or even forming.

YOUR MAKEUP MANTRA

Start using a cream-based eye primer on your top lids to help eyeshadow stay put. Concealers also fight those dark circles – just be sure to layer an eye cream or primer underneath first, to help stop it caking. A mistake to avoid is drawing a thick, dark line along your upper lashes, as it can make the eyelids look heavy and you look tired. Instead, trace a thin line along the upper lashes with a pencil or, if you ’ re using a cream or gel formula, a fine-tipped brush, pressing down into the lash line. This defines your eyes and makes the lashes look thicker.
