HOW TO WORK THIS LOOK

l Subtle grey creates a timeless base for crisp apple green and touches of buttermilk yellow, while the multi-dimensional beauty of nature is bought to life with a mix of woodland tones, supported by creamy hues. The colour of the moment – plaster pink – adds warmth to this calm, meditative space. l Heritage touches, such as parquet-effect tiles, bring a sense of grandeur. Choose lighter tones for a fresh effect or go dark for a cosy feel; whatever you choose, large traditional-style rugs are a must! l Give this look a modern spin by choosing custom murals instead of wallpaper. Look for archival and famous works of art that have been scanned and digitally printed in high definition for dramatic effect.

stone fruit inspire an indulgent scheme

HOW TO WORK THIS LOOK

l Take your inspiration from opulent, overgrown gardens that are rich with rambling roses, lush foliage and plenty of wildlife hiding in the undergrowth. Choose floral patterns that feature butterflies, birds and beetles, or include these animals as motifs on accessories, such as cushions, hardware and candles. l The key colour is rich cerise: a juicy tone inspired by stone fruit that’s huge in the fashion sphere this season. Cut through the sweetness with hints of orange and give depth to the effect with large swathes of dark green and plum. l Accessorise the scheme with eccentric, maximalist touches. Pile on leopard print, tassels and plenty of velvet. Pre-loved pieces and vintage-style treasures will add to the moody Seventies vibe – why not upcyle them with gold leaf?

Faro loop pile carpet in Biscuit Heather, £8.99 per sq m, Carpetright

HOW TO WORK THIS LOOK

l A neutral colour scheme without bold shades and statement patterns allows texture to become the main focus. Tactile finishes add dimension to the room, engaging the eye with a sense of depth. Use this styling tip when you need a soothing space. l Start from the ground up choosing flooring that features uneven colour or distressed effects. If you prefer hard flooring, look out for washed wood floorboards. Knobbly and bobbly carpets or rugs will give a softer feel underfoot. If your budget will stretch to seagrass or sisal carpets, these are a good hard-wearing and eco-friendly option, you could also try large-scale jute rugs for a similar look. l Accessorise with plenty of textiles. Think macramé cushions and fringed throws in shades of delicate white and blue.
