The holiday season doesn’t always bring out the best in everyone. With just a small adjustment in our own attitudes, we can spread some holiday cheer and do our part to bring joy to everyone we come in contact with.
Smile This is the absolute easiest (and cheapest) way to spread cheer. Being friendly will not only make a difference to everyone you come in contact with, you will feel the difference in your own heart.
Make dinner for someone. Due to Covid, you may not feel comfortable hosting a family in your home, but there is no reason you can’t treat them to a nice homemade meal made from the heart. No time to cook? Pick up a family style meal from a local restaurant and deliver it to their door. This is especially helpful for working, or single parents.
Give Studies show that giving can boost your physical and mental health, and it just simply makes you feel good. Nursing homes are a great place to give this season, since so many residents have not been able to have visitors in months. A new pair of fuzzy socks, slippers or a a nice scarf will give the recipient, and you, a warm fuzzy feeling inside.
Address store employees by their name. This is another easy one. The holiday season is the most stressful for retail workers. Go the extra mile to engage them in friendly conversation and address them by the name on their badge.
Tip well Restaurant servers are next on the list of high stress jobs during the busy holiday season. An extra $20 will go a long way to help them feel appreciated, while others might not be so friendly to them.
Play Secret Santa “Sock” a friend or neighbor. Buy some holiday socks and fill them with treats and small gifts, then leave them on someone’s doorstep with the attached graphic. The idea is that they will then “sock” another friend, and so on, and so on… spreading cheer throughout your community.
