exclusive interview
We all know and love Stacey Solomon. She bounced onto our screen in the sixth series of the X Factor and won over all of our hearts with her bubbly personality and stunning voice. After winning third place, we all knew this girl was going places. Since then, she has simply gone from strength to strength. Winning the tenth series of ‘I’m a Celeb’ with more than 80% of the public vote, becoming the face of Iceland and now she is back on our screens once again with her new TV series, The Love Machine, presenting alongside Chris Moyles.
THE ESSEX GIRL NEXT DOOR www.rmmagazine.co.uk 09
exclusive interview
Considered as one of the nations favourite girls, Stacey has well established herself in the entertainment industry and has built herself a very credible career. Behind the scenes she still remains a down to earth Essex girl, bringing up her adorable son, Zachary, staying very close to the family and friends in Essex and with another baby on the way, her future remains very bright.
How does it differ from other dating shows? I think it’s different because instead of being asked a few questions to see what type of person you are, you have to judge them like if you were walking into a bar and saw them for the first time. It’s what would happen in real life. You have to base it on first impressions and choose whether you’d like take them out or not.
RM Magazine caught up with the Essex songstress to talk chat up lines, eating insects and to find out why she has kept her same Essex based dentist, since being three years old.
Would you ever go on a dating show? I think I would actually. I think if I couldn’t find a date and the method I was using wasn’t working, I’d think why not! It would be a lot of fun!
You have your new series, The Love Machine’ starting on SKY Living, tell us a little about it. Well, it’s a really fun dating show that I present with Chris Moyles. The main aim is that contestants go into the Love Machine and they have to be picked by the main contestant looking for a date. It’s the love at first sight theory. The contestants then get the choice to ditch or go on a date. It’s based on first impressions.
“CHRIS MOYLES WAS REALLY FANTASTIC TO WORK WITH...” What is the cheesiest chat up line a guy has ever used on you? I can honestly say I’ve never had one! I wish I could say there has been so many but there hasn’t been! I have really never had one! You present the show with Chris Moyles, what is it like to work with him? Is he a bit of a handful? He’s absolutely lovely to work with. It’s funny because I’ve been asked that question quite a lot but he’s just been so fantastic and I loved working with him. He really looked after me and made me feel welcome, he was a pleasure to work with. He’s very funny too so he always made me laugh. You are clearly an Essex girl through and through, do you still get to spend a lot of time in Essex? Yeah I do get to spend a lot of time in Essex. My family and friends still live there so I get to see them a lot.
10 www.rmmagazine.co.uk
Where are your favourite places to go in Essex? There are quite a few places I love to go in Essex. I love Colchester Zoo, it’s always a lot of fun. I love going there and Paradise Park. That place is on of my favourites as there is so much greenery and it’s such a nice place to go with the kids. You have a fantastic smile, who is your dentist? My dentist is Dr Abbass and he has been my dentist since I was three years old! He is at Signature Smile in Woodford Green. He’s really, really lovely and I trust him with everything, he’s such a brilliant dentist. How has fame affected your private life – for instance do you still have all the same friends, and has Signature Smile always been your Dentist? I’ve still got exactly the same friends and exactly the same dentist, Signature Smile. I don’t think it has changed my personal life what so ever. I live in the same area, I’ve got the same friends, I’ve got all of my family round me so I think being famous has only affected my work life. It sounds like you have remained very grounded, with your adorable son Zachary and a new baby on the way. Would you say being a mum helps bring you back down to earth? Yeah I do. I’m quite lucky with my family as they keep me really grounded and down to earth, but being a mum just makes it a lot easier. It’s not all parties and nights out, I don’t really want to do that. All I care about is spending time with my family. In 2010, you were crowned Queen of the Jungle, on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! What sort of experience was that? Oh it was a really fantastic experience, I loved every minute of it! It was something I never dreamed I’d get the opportunity to do, so when I got the chance to do it, I absolutely loved it. How did you eat all those insects? Haha! I don’t know, I ask myself the same
exclusive interview
question when I look back on it but I really don’t know how I did it! Would you do it again? I don’t think so! Once is enough, it was brilliant but once is definitely enough! What was your highlight of being in the jungle? The whole thing was amazing but I think my favourite moment was jumping out of the aeroplane. That was the best thing I did and it was such a good experience.
So, what are your plans for the future? Just to keep going as much as I can really. I want to continue to do loads of different shows and work on my album. And of course, I’ve got my baby on the way so that’s a very exciting thing for this year. But whatever comes, comes and whatever it is, I can’t wait to do it! For more information on Stacey, pease visit : www.staceyxsolomon.com
You are a very busy girl these days, reality shows, TV presenting, and also being the face of Iceland. What is it like to come from nobody knowing you to being a household name? It’s just fantastic. I don’t really know how to describe it but that’s the thing I’ll also never get used to. It’s all just been so brilliant. You’ve been doing a lot of presenting recently, so you see yourself doing this as a full time career? Yeah I love doing it but also I would like to keep my options open. I don’t really want to pigeon hole my self into a certain area as I do like to keep my options open. You started out on the X Factor, do you think singing is something you’d like to get into again? Yeah definitely! I’m currently working on a new album at the moment and I absolutely love it. I can’t wait for it to be finished so I can release it. You’ve conquered so much in such a short space of time, what do you feel has been your biggest achievement to date? Everything I have done is an achievement to me. I don’t think I could pin point a time in my career where I though, that’s the biggest achievement. The whole experience after the X Factor has just been one achievement after the other and I’m really, really proud of myself.

EFENDI DRY CLEANERS: CLEANING DENIM...
3. You can also use the dry cleaners. Dry cleaning is a chemical process, not water based and it’s a great way of removing dirt without affecting the colour.
Although denim was not invented in America, it soon became an iconic garment for miners and cowboys. Denim has come a long way since and has become an essential garment for all.
4. Try not to clean for as long as possible, jeans rarely need cleaning.
Still holding its place at Fashion week, no one can live without a precious pair of jeans. Here are some hints and tips to keep them looking their best.
6 Don’t forget to treat all denim garments the same; ie shirts, shorts and jackets.
5. Air dry your jeans and never tumble dry.
1. While denim seems a rugged and durable fabric, it is actually quite fragile. Dyes used in denim can transfer and bleed easily and today’s cotton twill that is used, can thin quite easily.
At Efendi Dry Cleaners we offer an alteration service which is second to none. We can shorten your jeans and retain the original hem. How many times have you been disappointed with the hem after they have been altered? Not anymore thanks to Efendi!
2. Do wash by had in cold water, remember to use gentle detergents like Woolite and turn them inside out. You can also just use plain cold water.

STYLE
FOR THE GIRLS
GURU
The weather is changing and so should your colour palette! Spring this year means light, feminine pastel colours. They are the perfect alternative to bright, garish shades; and much more subtle. Colours to look out for are glacier blue, delicate peach and light lemon. Mix similar colours and shades in pastel colour blocking layers. If you are feeling brave, try wearing pastel hues top to toe like Louis Vuitton exhibited on the runway. They layered sugary sweet pieces in green and yellow shades, teamed with a trademark Louis Vuitton bag. For work try smart short or mini skirt suits with three quarter length sleeve blazers for a light alternative to the traditional work suit. Structured dresses in pastel prints with mid length hems make a perfect day time option and look fantastic worn with pastel wedge sandals and a light cream cardigan.

FOR THE BOYS
For an easy to wear light and breezy piece try this pleated pale pink dress by Mango. With a fitted waist, this dress evokes a soft feminine silhouette. The soft shade of this dress compliments a light spring tan and looks perfect worn with slightly darker accessories or cream pieces. For a multipurpose footwear investment try these Robert Clergerie platform Sandals in a light blush tone, perfect to wear with any pastel shade.
Get the hottest style tips from RM’s very own Style Guru, Kate Chennells from Dress Me Vintage in Romford. Menswear has taken a bold step this season with eccentric, bright prints. Patterns and prints are available on the high street in everything from shirts to shoes and even hats. The focal point of this trend is the printed shirt and this is an easy take on this trend. A printed shirt can be easily muted for a more subtle look with a light cardigan or a smart suit jacket, tailored chinos and neutral loafers. By neutralising the shirt with subtle hues you can still wear this trend without it looking too intense. Topman have an excellent selection of printed shirts in various prints and colours. Try this vintage inspired off white Aztec short sleeve shirt. Wear with camel chino shorts and similar colour espadrilles. Wear printed shorts or trousers with confidence and caution. Team with plain neutral tops or shirts – don’t wear head to toe print. Try these black Hawaiian shirts by Heritage Research. Wear with a plain white v neck t-shirt or a soft white cotton shirt. D & G’s spring collection portrayed this cool trend with highly patterned silk trousers teamed with a soft khaki military style shirt and summer accessories. fashion Last year’s guests
The Boys: Ali Saliim - Events Co-ordinator, Joe Sealey - Business Partner & Events Manager, Adam and Simon Ryan - Co founders of EFW Last year’s guests
THE FASHION PACK… THEY’RE BACK! AND BIGGER THAN EVER! They hit Essex with their fun filled, fashion forward shows and are on the cusp of producing the best Fashion Week Essex has ever seen on April 8th 2012. We caught up with the Essex Fashion Week team; Adam and Simon Ryan - Co founders of EFW, Joe Sealey - Business Partner & Events manager, Ali Saliim - Events Coordinator, Little Joe Lustig- Events Co-ordinator, Danielle Bigaignon - PR Manager and Intern Charlotte Campbell, to talk fashion, gentleman’s rooms and entering the Guinness Book of World Records!
18 www.rmmagazine.co.uk
RM: How is the preparation going for this year’s Essex Fashion Week? EFW: We are miles in front this year! Preparation wise, our winter show last year was a little last minute as we only decided to do it six weeks before hand to keep the brand in the public eye. This time round we’ve had six months, a lot more time and a lot more contacts so we are just miles ahead! We have a fantastic new venue, the Ceme Centre in Rainham, which has much more space and additional side rooms to use as well. We’ve done a lot more groundwork this time round and all that’s really left to do is the schedule and to make sure everyone has a really good day. RM: What can we expect to see this year? EFW: This year we are going for an attendance of 2000 people. Joe [Sealey] has been on the case to make it a Guinness World Record! It’ll be the biggest fashion show in one room in one day. Most fashion shows, like London Fashion Week, only house 500 in one room at one time, so in terms of people attending, it’ll be the biggest ever! We have got all different types of designers and performers confirmed, such as Danaeo, and we are currently in talks with a break dancing crew from the TV show, Got To Dance. It’s going to be a great day for the general public and in terms of fashion and performers; it’s going to be a culmination of them all together. Our fashion shows attract predominantly women, we wanted a way in which we can attract more
fashion men and also keep them happy, so little Joe came up with the idea of a ‘Gentlemen’s room’ . It will provide a safe haven for the gents and will also be showing the weekends horse racing and football, sell cigars and even have its very own bookies! It’s going to be brilliant, there will also be a karaoke room and a cloakroom. With the additional rooms the venue has, we will be selling some as VIP boxes, just like you’d have at a football match. RM: What does it take to prepare and execute such an event? EFW: Ten people and little sleep! Joe has been fantastic getting all the deals done, talking to the brands, but it has been difficult. Some of the members of the team are doing other bits alongside this, Simon works in London and Charlotte is at University so we use our time to our best advantage. It’s such hard work. Everyone thinks it’s so easy and that we just turn up and enjoy the night but it is very stressful, especially the week before, we don’t sleep! Danielle works extremely hard on the PR side to make sure our brand is out there, this ensures we showcase the best designers and have some fantastic sponsors on board.
RM: What do you think sets Essex Fashion Week apart from the rest? EFW: We don’t take ourselves too seriously and our main focus is to have people walk away from the event, having had a good day, and wanting to return for the next one. It’s the fun factor of the whole event and like we said before, we are going to have treatment rooms, gentleman’s room and VIP boxes. It’s the extras we offer that sets us apart. You have to pay a lot to see a show at London Fashion Week and you don’t get any treats or added extras. With us you get such variety and a great package.
at last year’s show and she is now working with us. She wanted to be involved as it’s nothing like she had seen before. We are giving a platform to all individuals to come and experience a fantastic fashion event and simply enjoy themselves.
For more information, get yourselves over to www.essexfashionwk.com
RM: What is your main aim this year? EFW: We want it to be an experience. There is really no other place in Essex to experience fashion on such a large scale. We’ve got a platform for young designers and businesses to showcase their work and their brands. It’s an opportunity to be glamorous throughout the day, meet a lot of people, enjoy the atmosphere and have a really good day out.
“THIS WILL BE THE BEST SHOW WE HAVE EVER PRODUCED...”
RM: What designers have you got involved this year? EFW: The only designers we’ve got from last year is Boohoo and Candy Kidz, but that’s it as we like to keep the show quite fresh. Boohoo are launching a new label called Pretty Little Things and we’ve also got Claire Bella bags and a new menswear brand called Criminal Damage who are quite a street label. We like to get a diverse range of designers to showcase. RM: Your winter event was a massive hit. Have you been under pressure to top it? EFW: We are going to top it! We’re not just being arrogant but this will be the best show we have ever produced. The production, the scale of it, the brands involved, the amount of press that are going to come; it’s just going to be so much better than our previous shows. It has snowballed from the beginning and has just got better and better.
RM: Have you got any backstage gossip or sneak peaks you can give us? EFW: We have Amy Childs as a headline sponsor and she is exhibiting her work for the first time at Essex Fashion Week; that is going to be massive. This is quite a major thing; she’s using EFW as a platform to launch her brand. We’ve also got Jess Wright’s underwear brand and Gemma Collins is launching a new range of clothes for larger ladies, so again they are using EFW as a platform to increase their brand awareness. RM: What do you hope people can take from the day? EFW: I think it’s great for normal people who are into their fashion to be invited and experience a fashion event. Unless you are a somebody in the fashion world or a celebrity you never get invited to London, Paris or Milan Fashion Week, so it’s nice for people be invited to such a fun event where they can enjoy an after party as well. It’s a great place to come and to network too. We’ve had lots of great feedback from new companies that have gained a lot of business off the back of EFW. The new addition to our team, Charlotte, was a spectator

ASK DR JAS
Have you any worries with your teeth or questions on check ups and tooth erosion? Well Dr Jas is here to help with all your problems, all you need to do is ask! and Cosmetic Dentistry (e.g. Porcelain Veneers) is best for you or just Orthodontics (Braces) and teeth whitening may achieve the result you want. Time is an important influence of the treatment options. Orthodontics (braces) can take up to 2 years (in severe cases) or a few months with mild cases to complete whereas a smile makeover with Porcelain Veneers can be achieved in 2-3 weeks. Dr Jas will always advise what is best for long term health!
How Often Should I Have A Check Up? My Teeth Have Always Been Yellow. What Can You Do To Help Me? Most people’s teeth are not as white as they would like them to be and with age our teeth tend to become darker or more yellow. Teeth whitening can make your teeth quite a few shades whiter. We carry out two types of teeth whitening, one is home whitening which takes ten to fourteen days and the second is Zoom whitening which is done in the dental chair and is instant. If the staining on your teeth is from taking antibiotics as a child, then you may benefit from porcelain veneers or longer treatment with teeth whitening. Dr Jas has actually used both systems on his own teeth and recommends it!
I Have Crooked Teeth And I’m Not Sure Whether To Have Braces Or Veneers. What Do You Recommend? It is important to evaluate what’s better for you. Whether a combination of Orthodontics (Braces)
If you have a healthy mouth and visit the hygienist at least twice a year then you would generally only need a check up with the dentist once a year. This is only a guide and your own dentist may prefer to see you every six months. This may be because he is monitoring certain changes in your teeth, or he / she may be keeping an eye on changes in your gum or tooth health. Certain gum problems can lead to health problems such as heart disease or diabetes so regular check ups are recommended! Also at dental check ups the soft tissues are checked for oral cancer so going to the dentist could save your life!
What Is Tooth Erosion? This is ‘wear’ of teeth due to chemical erosion. This often results in sensitivity of the necks of the teeth to cold and sweet things. Another common area of tooth surface damage is the inner surfaces of upper teeth in teenagers. Chemical erosion is the result of acid softening the enamel. If the teeth are then brushed with abrasive
toothpaste the problem is made worse. The main types of acid which are dangerous for your teeth are found in lemons, grapefruit, oranges, fizzy drinks, vinegar, fresh fruit juices and fruit juice mixtures
Preventive measures:
1 .Limit the number of episodes when acidic foods or drinks are taken. Try to eat all your fruit at one time of the day. 2. DO NOT BRUSH teeth after taking acidic foods or drinks. 3. If possible, rinse your mouth with milk or a fluoride mouthwash after eating or drinking acidic foods. 4. Drink fruit juices through a wide bore straw thus getting the acid past the teeth, and away from the mouth. 5. Try to avoid diet drinks. If you have them, drink them through a wide bore straw or drink them very quickly to reduce acid contact time. If tooth surface loss is occurring even though there are no observed dietary causes, then the dentist will guide you further. There are other causes of tooth damage such as medical conditions e.g. acid reflux or anorexia, and chronic alcohol intake.

NO CARBS BEFORE MARBS: THE BOOTCAMP Created and run by the gorgeous Ellie Redman and her team of fitness fanatic trainers, the TOWIE famous ‘No Carbs Before Marbs’ Bootcamp invites image conscious men and women to join in a programme of health and fitness based activities over the course of a weekend (or a 5-day week, suitable for the brave-hearted!) Always willing to try something new for the sake of our readers, we RM ladies trekked into the depths of Essex to try our hand at NCBM bootcamp and experience a taste of what the scheme has to offer... Getting up at 8am on a Saturday is quite a drag but by the time we arrived at the muddy field in a remote part of Braintree, the bootcamp was already well under way and participants had been on a morning run, had a super-healthy breakfast and were already in the middle of a gruelling assault course with tyre run, monkey bars, climbing wall and rope swing to name just a few of the many obstacles. So, as complete gym-o-phobes, we were wondering why people would put themselves through such a harsh set of trials on a cold,

is easy to see the sense of camaraderie between all of those taking part absolutely no one is left watching on the sidelines...
Bootcamp founder Ellie had the answer “People come for a lot of different reasons. Some come to lose weight; others come for fitness and to get that great sense of achievement. We get a lot of people coming who do not need to lose weight but do it for extra training.” Yes, a very dedicated set of participants we see...
The first game involved passing long, very heavy pole through the legs of every team member followed then by a series of hardcore exercises including press ups and jumping jacks for the loosing team (the winning team were then ordered to do double for the amount for gloating, making us feel a little bit better!) The second challenge involved all bootcampers building a tank out of tyres and beams, and believe us it was ten times harder than it looked!
However, the reason for the enthusiasm soon becomes much clearer: As a part of the bootcamp weekend those involved are put up at the luxury Five Lakes Resort in Colchester, and to help them forget their aches and pains. When they return they are treated to a menu of indulgent massages and pamper treatments at the on-site spa to make all of the hard work worthwhile.
people involved. We’ve had such good feedback so we just want to continue to raise awareness of NCBM Bootcamp. I’m also looking to take it to Marbella, which should be great! This is my aim for next year as our focus this year is to continue pushing the Essex Boot Camp.” Sun, sea, sand, massages and a bit of exercise... count us in next year! “AFTER ALL THESE ACTIVITIES WE WERE CRAVING FOR A FULL BLOWN FRY-UP...”
But, before this fabulous reward lies a day of intensive training and rather than watching we thought it was only right to get involved, if only for a short amount of time! Team games are a key part of the agenda and it
After these full onactivities, we were well and truly knackered, very much slacking and craving a full fry-up followed by a nice warm bath. But quite clearly we wouldn’t look quite as hot as the Towie cast in their blinged-up cut out bikinis in fact diet plans are set out for each and every one of the attendees to help them manage the healthy eating side of keeping fit.

We really think that this Bootcamp weekend offers something perfect for those wanting to get fit in the company of others while learning the best way to eat healthily and not to mention enjoying the treats that lie in wait back at Five Lakes Resort. So what next we asked Ellie... “Well, it’s going really well at the moment but I want it to get a lot busier and to get more

DETOX WITH JUICEXPRESS
With the summer moving ever closer, most of us girls take a look in the mirror and make a promise to ourselves to get bikini fit for the summer. But with all the different diets being thrown in our faces, which one is actually worth trying? Well, our Annie has given the JuiceXpress three day juice detox a test drive, and here’s how it went...
including potassium, zinc and vitamin E and B. By the end of the day I hungered for my soup. I started to feel very tired and I had a headache, all which was expected for such an avid coffee drinker! The soup was filled with carrots, green beans, red pepper, courgette, cabbage, celery, onion, garlic, basil and oregano, and it went down so quick! I was very hungry! Feeling very tired, I decided to have an early night and hoped tomorrow would be a bit kinder to me.
DAY TWO:
Firstly, I’ll paint a brief picture of myself. I haven’t been to the gym in about four years, I drink bucket loads of coffee on a daily basis and eat more pickled onion Monster Munch than any human being really should. So, you can imagine my initial horror at giving up all these things I love, however I relished the thought of taking on this challenge and giving my body the well earned detox it probably needed.
DAY ONE:
My first day on the detox and things weren’t going as bad as I had initially thought. I had craved for a coffee all day but the motivational text I received kept me on track. I started off the morning with a ginger and lemon shot and a wheatgrass shot, the latter being less desired, but both were filled with natural vitamins and minerals that gave me the boost I’d normally get from my morning coffee. The first juice of the day was made up of apple, carrot, yellow pepper, cucumber, lemon, broccoli, celery and beetroot. For lunch I had another juice filled with apple, spinach, broccoli, cucumber, avocado, parsley and lemon. This juice was a little thicker than the last but still as easy to drink. It also provided me with at least twenty essential nutrients
I woke in the morning feeling lighter but still a little tired. I started the day with a wheatgrass shot and a ginger and lemon shot, both went down better than yesterday. For my morning juice I had an amazing smoothie. This was by far the best I’d had and I didn’t want it to end! Filled with blueberries, yogurt and pineapple, this smoothie was rich in vitamins B2, C and E and I was kept informed of all the goodness in each juice by texts throughout the day. These were really helpful. By the time lunch came, I didn’t feel half as hungry as yesterday, proof that my stomach had shrunk. I had a juice filled with apple, spinach, broccoli, cucumber, avocado, parsley and lemon, and by the time I had finished I was truly full up! I drank my third juice until dinner and once again, I didn’t feel as hungry as I did the previous day, so my soup filled me right up! It was the same as yesterday, packed full of veg and equally delicious. I went to bed feeling better than last night, looking forward to seeing how energized I would feel the next day.
saying thank you to me! Again the morning started with a shot of wheatgrass, ginger and lemon and my first juice. This was the same as the first day and I felt a lot lighter and my stomach appeared flatter, a result we girls are always after! I didn’t feel one pang of hunger, although I did crave for something to chew! I had received so much information from the texts sent, giving information for life after the detox and the benefits of the fruit and veg I had ingested. For lunch I had the same as the first day, so I had no problem drinking it. I think I was getting quite used to it! By midday I was feeling very energized and my head felt really clear. By the evening I was nowhere near as tired as the last few days. I ate my soup and relished in the fact that I had actually completed the detox! Overall, this was a very quick and easy detox to take on. After washing my body of all the caffeine and toxins, I was definitely going to cut down on my coffee intake and eat more fruit. If you want to detox yourself then I highly recommend this one. With all the motivational and informative text messages you receive throughout the course, there is no reason why you should fail. Anyway, if I did it I’m sure you can! For more information please visit www.juicexpress.co.uk
DAY THREE
I woke up quite sprightly. After feeding my body the nutrients it needed these past two days, I think it was

FIGHT FATIGUE!
health & beauty
STEP 1: SHED SOME SKIN Here’s a simple tip for whenever your skin is looking dull, tired or grey: exfoliate! Not only does the very act of using a face scrub invigorate your skin, making you feel more energized, it can dramatically affect the way it looks too. That’s because skin that’s tired-looking is often littered with dead cells which scatter the light that hits them in all directions. If skin is free of these cells, light is absorbed evenly improving your skin’s overall appearance. So whenever your skin needs a bit of a pep talk try a product like ZIRH
SCRUB - FACE REVIVER 100ML or LAB SERIES FOR MEN INVIGORATING FACE SCRUB 100ML. Use
twice weekly to keep skin looking A1.
STEP 2: RE-ENERGISE AND REVITALISE
With research showing that men’s skin tends to burn up energy faster than women’s (and looks more tired as a result), it’s as well to have few fatigue fighting strategies up your sleeve. So if you’re hungover, pale and pasty or your skin’s just in need of a wake up call, Mankind’s Grooming Editor, Lee Kynaston, has the perfect solutions. www.mankind.co.uk
30 www.rmmagazine.co.uk
Given that one of men’s biggest grooming concerns is looking tired it’s no surprise that plenty of products exist to target fatigue. And leading the charge when it comes to skin energizers has to be Biotherm Homme. Their hugely popular HIGH RECHARGE range has been specifically designed to give skin a kick-start and restore it to optimum condition. To create your own turbo-charged grooming routine start with BIOTHERM HIGH
RECHARGE ENERGY CLEANSING GEL 100ML which contains stimulating
ginseng and restorative vitamins to freshen skin and rid it of impurities, then follow up with BIOTHERM HIGH RECHARGE MASK 75ML. A fast-acting ‘flash mask’ it takes a mere five minutes to recharge skin, remove dead cells and improve its overall appearance.
health & beauty
STEP 3: FOCUS ON EYES With some of the thinnest skin on the body surrounding them, eyes are often one of the first areas to show signs of fatigue. The solution? An eye rescue product like the award-winning LAB SERIES
FOR MEN AGE RESCUE EYE THERAPY 15ML or Biotherm
Homme High Recharge Eye Serum 10ml. An ultra light eye treatment containing thermal plankton and ginseng, the latter its the perfect tonic for tired eyes and is great at tackling dark circles too. What’s more, its roller ball delivery system has an instant refreshing action. Just remember, though, when it comes to using eye products less is always more!
STEP 4: CONCEAL THE EVIDENCE Sometimes you just need an instant fix for those annoying dark circles (especially if they’re the result of a late night and an excess of beer) and that’s where a good concealer comes in.
MENAJI’S CAMO CAMOUFLAGE STICK is what
politicians, actors and TV personalities use to disguise the tell-tale signs of fatigue and nothing works faster on under eye circles. Just dab a little under the eye with your ring finger and gently blend into the surrounding skin.
STEP 6: DON’T FORGET TO RE-CHARGE FROM THE INSIDE TOO!
STEP 5: ADD SOME INSTANT COLOUR One of the easiest and most effective ways to perk up tired, pasty-looking skin is to use one of today’s high-performance bronzers. Especially easy to use is Biotherm Homme Power Bronze Matt Powder Brush 3.5g which you just brush across skin to give an instant, natural-looking tan. It’s much easier to use than many tinted moisturisers and the results tend to be more controllable too. Or, if you want a subtler effect, try NICKEL
LE GRAND BLUFF SKIN PERFECTOR 50ML. Flying of the shelves on its launch it’s a lightly-tinted skin improver that acts a bit like an airbrush, improving the allround appearance of your skin.
It’s all very well looking great but what if you don’t feel that way? Whether your tiredness is the result of overwork, over-exercise over indulgence down the Crown & Anchor you can give your body a much needed boost with the help of a supplement like PERRICONE
MD SUPER BERRY POWDER WITH ACAI - 30 DAYS which has been
specially formulated, with natural ingredients like Siberian Ginseng to give you a mental as well as physical boost.
WAKEY! WAKEY! The scent of citrus fruits had been shown to act as an instant reviver to the body and mind so give skin an instant wake up call with these three lethargy-busters! KORRES CITRUS SHOWER GEL 250ML
As well as being the perfect early morning tonic, this uplifting, zesty shower gel also contains wheat proteins to help maintain skin’s moisture balance, antioxidants to enhance its defence system and Aloe Vera to guard against ageing.
MOLTON BROWN ACTIVE CASSIA HAIR AND BODY SPORTS WASH 200ML
The ultimate power-cleanser, this bracing shower gel, with extracts of lemon, lime and rosemary, is perfect for the gym but just as effective for your morning shower too! Can be used as shampoo too.
ANTHONY LOGISTICS CITRUS BLEND BODY WASH 237ML Formulated to give you the ultimate shower experience, this zingy gel, with its bracing blend of citrus fruits and eucalyptus revitalizes, invigorates and helps condition skin too. A great bathroom must have.

BOMBSHELL BLOWOUT
health & beauty
This season’s hair is unashamedly feminine, glamorous and powerful. Forget winter hats as your hair is about to take centre stage. Voluminous locks triumphed at fashion week with Versace, D&G and Sonia Rykiel bringing back big and coiffed. Big and bouncy waves are usually salon territory as we tend to stick to the safety of our straighteners, but not anymore as we have sourced the tools and technique to create the perfect blow out that won’t have you blowing up. After washing your hair lightly towel dry and begin blow drying with your head upside down, this will help create volume from the root. When the hair is about 80% dry you can flip your head back and gently brush the hair.
Now begin drying smaller sections working the dryer from the root to tip, always angling the dryer down to prevent fly aways. With a round barrelled brush work this through the ends of the hair when drying to create soft curls. To intensify this, loosely wind the curl up to the top of your head and clip.

MORTGAGE REVIEW
homes & interiors
Lenders raise their rates – is it time to review your mortgage? Paul Flavin from Miura Financial Solutions Ltd comments on the recent announcement that Halifax has increased its Standard Variable Rate. “The announcement of a rise in the Halifax Standard Variable Rate (SVR) came as something of a surprise but provides a reminder of just how things can change. The rise from 3.5% to 3.99% is estimated to increase the cost of their average borrower’s mortgage by £16 per month and although this will be unwelcome for those affected, the new rate is still one of the lowest in the market. Many people will be asking why this has happened now when the Bank of England Base Rate (BBR) remains at an all time low and it has been suggested that we will see no rise until possibly 2014. When the BBR was slashed in 2008, no-one realistically expected rates to remain at these low levels for any length of time! The reality is that, such has been the economic impact of the financial crisis, Central Banks around the world have been forced to hold down rates and provide massive financial assistance to support their economies to prevent mass unemployment and a collapse in living standards and spending power. Mortgage borrowers have been one of the main beneficiaries of low interest rates. Four years ago the typical SVR was around 7%, today it is around 4.1%. This reduction has enabled many borrowers to weather the financial downturn far better than if central bank intervention had not taken place. Lenders like Halifax have been faced with increased costs, including
38 www.rmmagazine.co.uk
having to pay depositors to attract savings and supporting large retail and branch network distribution costs. All lenders are under pressure to maintain their margins and it appears that we have reached the point where one of the UK’s largest lenders is making the first move in what will be a slow but inevitable upward movement. For those borrowers who are on SVR many will be able to do an internal product transfer to a fixed rate for a set period, which may mean little or no increase in monthly outgoings. Others may wish to look at remortgage opportunities available with other lenders. Some, due to their level of equity, employment or personal credit circumstances, will not benefit in the short term from a product transfer or will be unable to remortgage elsewhere. They will have to stay put and incur this increase and any future increase that the lender chooses to levy, until such time as they can consider alternatives. To find out how these recent rate increases affect you or to review your current mortgage please call Paul Flavin of Miura Financial Solutions Ltd on 01702 423900 Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage. There will be a fee for mortgage advice. The actual amount you pay will depend upon your circumstances. The fee is up to 1%, but a typical fee is £295. MAB 5266

450g asparagus 350g fresh linguine or tagliatelle 1 tbsp light olive oil 4 medium eggs 2 tbsp walnut oil 50g finely grated parmesan to serve
LINGUINE WITH ASPARAGUS & EGG T
his month we have brought you a seasonal dish of tasty asparagus pasta. This light dish will make for a very elegant lunch or a delicious supper meal. It’s also light on the stomach and calories too! Snap the woody ends off the asparagus, and discard. Cut the asparagus in half widthways. Cook them in simmering salted water until just tender, 3-4 minutes, then drain, then quickly refresh under cold running water to retain their colour. Cook the pasta in plenty of salted boiling water until it is al dente - tender but firm to the bite. Heat the olive oil in a frying
pan over low heat, and gently break the eggs into it. Cover immediately and cook over very gentle heat for around 3-4 minutes, until the whites have just set and the yolks are still runny. In the meantime, drain the pasta and toss it with the asparagus and walnut oil in the bowl. Arrange on four warmed plates. Separate each egg carefully from the others and gently lift out and place on the pasta. Scatter with sea salt and serve with a bowl of grated parmesan.
Top Tip...
For a special touch, add herbs to the salad dressing: finely snipped chives, fragrant thyme, bruised rosemary sprigs, or peppery basil.

A good bottle of wine is always a very acceptable gift to take to a friend to share with a meal, or just to say ‘thank you’ for the invitation. But how do you make sure that it arrives safely when a car journey is involved? In the past, the precious cargo was often left to roll around on the back seat of the car – hardly the best way to treat a good bottle of wine – or put in the boot, where the risk of breakage rose considerably every time you drove over a bump in the road.

Now there is a much better solution from Wine Corner for transporting wine in the car – and with summer just around the corner, the timing could not be better! Sidecar by Averli is a strap system that fixes to the Isofix mount found in most modern cars. S E V O L Here in the RM office we have racked our brains for our favourite bits & best buys this month! HIT THE ROAD JACK! We love this charming comedian not only for his quick wit on the stage but mostly because he filmed part of his new show in our very own studios! The cheeky chap headed to Essex to film part of his new Series ‘Hit The Road Jack’. In his new series, Jack Whitehall packs his bags and goes on a comedy tour of the country to find the best that Britain has to offer, joined along the way by celebrities and comedians who hail from each week’s featured city. He arrives knowing no-one and without a place to sleep, and so his first task is to find a random stranger willing to return to their home with Jack in tow. Thereafter he documents his experiences and the week reaches its climax in a high-octane show performed in a local venue temporarily transformed into an iconic studio. Catch the show on Channel 4.

BENTLEYS EXP 9 F SUV CONCEPT
BOLD, DYNAMIC, SPORTY DESIGN
From a designer’s perspective, EXP 9 F was a dream project, the chance to create a completely new type of Bentley. From the very beginning, the design team had a clear vision for the new Bentley SUV, as Dirk van Braeckel, Director of Design, explains: “EXP 9 F had to represent the absolute pinnacle of the sport utility sector, setting a new benchmark for this type of vehicle. The style had to reflect Bentley’s sporting character despite its radically different package and purpose together with sculptured, flowing surfaces in keeping with the Bentley tradition.” A new class of Bentley allowed the styling team to adopt a more progressive design approach. The exterior is a bold, dynamic statement, combining clean, muscular surfaces with signature character lines, while retaining the qualities of luxury and power – a pure Bentley. Key Bentley cues such as the matrix grille, round lamps and the strong power-line and haunch along each flank are reinterpreted for EXP 9 F. The ‘hewn from solid’ design language and innovative detailing, emphasise the robust character of this high-luxury SUV.
Bentley’s designers and engineers have created a compelling new take on the Grand Touring Bentley - a vehicle that feels equally at home at an opera gala performance, on the sand dunes and the overtaking lane of the autobahn. Unmistakably a Bentley – yet a Bentley like none before it – the EXP 9 F could herald a third Bentley model-line alongside the bespoke Mulsanne and the high performance Continental GT, GTC and Flying Spur.
54 www.rmmagazine.co.uk
The designers were inspired not only by the more functional nature of EXP 9 F but by the ‘visible engineering’ of the famous Blower Bentleys. For example, the day-time running lamp apertures also act as the charge cooler air intakes for the twin-turbo W12 engine, each with a dramatic, mesh-covered turbine fan design and ‘rifled’ inner surface finish. The turbine theme continues with the stunning 23inch alloy wheels, the design of which complements the sculptured coachwork. The multiple spokes are reminiscent of the shape of turbine fan blades while the centrally mounted wheel nut is a visual reference both to Bentley’s Le Mans racers of the 1920s with centre-lock spinner and to the single
lifestyle nut found on the modern-day Speed 8’s high-tech racing alloys. At the rear, the swooping lines of the tailgate avoid utilitarian overtones in favour of a distinctly sporting profile, while the ultra-wide, two-part split tailgate offers a high level of versatility when grand touring. The bold design language of EXP 9 F is complemented by twin exhaust tailpipes with ‘rifled’ inner surfaces, their elliptical shapes echoing those of the rear light clusters. The rear lights are inspired by the forms and details of fighter jet engines, uniquely designed so that they glow from within, spreading their light outwards.
INTERIOR – A FUSION OF LUXURY WITH UTILITY
Bentley is renowned for its fusion of extremes – technology and craftsmanship, luxury and performance – and the interior of EXP 9 F expresses the resolution of apparent opposites in its use of materials, techniques and technology. Traditional handcrafted elements such as wood, leather and polished metals such as aluminium, bronze and gunmetal are used to create a sense of British luxury, yet the way they are used sets a fresh and contemporary interior ambience. Softtouch leather contrasts with highly durable surfaces with the concept car design experimenting with the use of saddle leather for the seat backs, top roll and loadspace – while analogue bezels and dials are paired with TFT ‘virtual’ instrumentation.
Even the luxurious silk wool floormats are reversible – with one side finished in durable, ribbed saddle leather for use when the driver and passengers are dressed for the great outdoors. The upright dashboard design features a full-width, one-piece wood veneer with a subtly negative surface and instruments with a configurable display. Traditional Bentley ‘bulls eye’ vents have a ‘rifled’ gunmetal inner surface for a more contemporary and functional appearance. The centre console is a blend of functionality and supreme ergonomics with dynamic, architectural layers which help to create a central spine to the cabin. The frame of the console is also a structural component with integrated, sculpted grab handles.
“BENTLEY IS KNOWN FOR ITS FUSION OF EXTREMES...” The flowing roof design with a panoramic glass panel is inspired by the roll cages of rally cars, expressing both strength and lightness. Rear seat passengers can chose between business mode, with generous legroom complete with fold-down keyboard and full internet connectivity via an iPad or tablet or a more reclined position with powered footrest, drinks table and an infotainment screen for movies. When the rear seats are not in use, they can be powered forward to create a larger loadspace for
sports equipment or luggage. The EXP 9 F seating is 4+1, with a rear armrest lifting to reveal a cooled compartment for champagne and glasses. Seats feature a diamond-quilted ‘shoulder line’ in softtouch leather, echoing the traditional appearance of a British field sport jacket. At the rear, the lower section of the two-piece tailgate may be used as a viewing bench or picnic table. Bespoke picnic hampers are stowed neatly to either side of the loadspace when not in use, but are located on rails for easy access. An awning extends over the tailgate to protect those seated there; two umbrellas fit either side of the rear luggage area for when the rain clouds sweep in.
BENTLEY POWER AND PERFORMANCE
Although the EXP 9 F concept is based around the Bentley 6.0 litre, twin-turbocharged W12 engine with an 8-speed transmission, both the company’s recently-launched 4.0 litre, twin-turbocharged V8 or a hybrid drivetrain could meet the performance requirements of a pinnacle luxury SUV. Whilst EXP 9 F is primarily intended to investigate new design territory – and all drivetrain options remain under consideration – any Bentley SUV would offer the thunderous performance the marque is renowned for. The W12 6.0 litre powertrain, for example, could develop 600bhp and 800 Nm of torque with key performance indicators like the top speed and 0-60mph sprint time all setting new benchmarks for the SUV sector.

NEW 2012 JEEP® GRAND CHEROKEE SRT8 SUVS WILL SPORT FERRARI RED FOR FORMULA 1 STARS FERNANDO ALONSO AND FELIPE MASSA
Two specially prepared models of the new 2012 Jeep® Grand Cherokee SRT8® - the most powerful and best handling Jeep vehicle ever - were delivered to Scuderia Ferrari Formula One drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa at the Fiorano circuit in Maranello, Italy. 56 www.rmmagazine.co.uk
The iconic, seven-slot Jeep front grille is painted matt black and features custom red inserts. A race-inspired, offset black driver’s stripe with a white accent customises the front and rear bumpers, bonnet, the entire surface of the roof and the rear spoiler. Additional exclusive details include a matt black painted dual-pane sunroof, Carbon fibre mirror surrounds and a gloss black rear light bar with red accents on the Jeep logo. To complete the unique exterior trim of the two custom-built SRT8 models, the Italian flag has been painted on the underside of the rear spoiler: a tribute to the Ferrari F150º Formula One car. Ride height has been lowered 1.5 inches and both vehicles ride on unique forged aluminium, 20-inch wheels painted black, to give them an even more aggressive stance. In line with the vehicle’s custom exterior, the interior cabin is enhanced by exclusive Ferrari Red leather inserts on the seats with sculpted bolsters. Also the door trim panels, the central armrest and the instrument panel boast exclusive red leather. The leather-wrapped SRT8 steering wheel with mounted paddle shifters features red contrasting stitching. The unique instrument cluster features yellow dials which give the cabin a look of the GT cars produced in Maranello.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is powered by an all-new 6.4-litre HEMI® V-8 engine with Fuel Saver technology that switches off four of the eight cylinders when full power is not required, to ensure increased fuel economy. Thanks to the powerful HEMI V-8 powertrain delivering 468 horsepower (344 kW) and 624 Nm of torque, the SRT8 model achieves benchmark performance of 0-62 mph in 5 seconds, has a top speed of 160 mph and brakes from 62-0 mph in 35 m. RANGE ROVER BECOMES ROOFLESS! The Evoque Convertible Concept will explore the potential for the world’s first premium convertible SUV. This bold concept builds on the global success of the Evoque and continues Land Rover’s tradition for creating and leading new market segments. The concept is being shown to gauge reaction and to assess the potential for what could be another white space product from the world’s leading SUV brand. The soft-top convertible concept is based on the Range Rover Evoque Coupe. It features a fully retractable premium roof system with a Roll Over Protection System [ROPS]. The concept cleverly combines capability and versatility with a drop down tailgate and a comfortable four seat package. The vehicle has been developed with Land Rover DNA at its heart, retaining key characteristics including a command driving position and all-terrain capability. The Evoque’s dramatic rising waist line and distinctive shape has been retained and the new convertible body style has been achieved with minimal changes to weight and torsional rigidity. The hood is housed in a neat tapered finisher with the roof mechanism stowed discretely
below the belt-line. Inside, the concept is packed with Evoque’s award winning technology including Terrain Response, surround cameras, Park Assist and class leading infotainment featuring an 8-inch dual view touch screen and a sound system from British audio experts, Meridian. The Evoque Convertible Concept features unique 21-inch Titan silver wheels and is finished in a new metallic Causeway Grey paint. The interior is in Lunar and Ivory with leather seats featuring sporty perforated panels and Ivory contrast stitching.

John Edwards, Land Rover Global Brand Director said: “We are excited to see the response to this concept as we assess the potential for building on the Evoque’s exceptional success so far.” Unfortunately there are no production plans confirmed for the Evoque Convertible, however if Range Rover do confirm production we expect to see them everywhere! Well everywhere in Essex anyway!

THE HYPE THEORY
entertainment
THE HYPE THEORY are a power pop/punk band from Chelmsford, that consists of Katy Jackson, Sean Bishop, Tom Harrison, Josh Coombes, and Jack Divey. Their blend of summery pop rock tunes has taken them to the biggest UK festivals including Download, T in the Park, Underage, Hevy and Sonisphere. They are doing extremely well for a band that only formed in the summer of 2010 after lead vocalist Katy Jackson and Guitarist Sean Bishop spent a year of experimental writing together at college.
but the band decided to sign with Small Town Records in the Spring of 2011. ‘Kid At Heart’ was the first single released through Small Town Records, on 8th August 2011. The music video, which accompanied the single, has seen extensive play on none other than Kerrang and Scuzz TV. Yet again another incredible achievement in such a short space of time from a small town Essex band!
The pair then finished the line up with Josh on drums, Jack on bass and Tom Harrison on Guitar and have since spent the past year supporting alternative bands such as Me vs Hero, Summerlin, Don Broco, All Forgotten, Shadows Chasing Ghosts, The First and Paige to name a few.
The summer of 2011 has seen the band play the UK’s biggest festivals after earning a place in the final eight of the Red Bull Bedroom Jam. This saw the band share the stage with the biggest names in rock at Download, T In The Park, Sonisphere, Hevy, and Underage festivals, as well as at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards.
Back in November 2010 the band self released their debut single ‘We Will Be Singing’ which was picked up by Alex Baker, a well know DJ on Kerrang! Radio and earned them the title as one of 2010’s Hottest female fronted bands voted by the radio stations listeners. They now receive regular airtime on the station, which is a massive feat, as getting airtime is a pretty tough job! Shortly after in December 2010 the band hit the studio with Matt O’Grady that has worked with the likes of You Me At Six, and Deaf Havana to record their debut album titled ‘Glory Days’. These recordings drew the attention of many record labels,
Things for The Hype Theory have been incredibly moving fast, and with tours booked up for the end of April, there’s no doubt that this band are a force to be reckoned with, sadly no dates are local so you will just have to wait in suspense for this awesome band to head back to their home town! They can be found on: www.facebook.com/thehypetheory, where you can find out tour dates, listen to their newest single ‘ You’re Going Home Alone’ amongst other tracks, and find out how their gig supporting McFly went!
