INTERVIEW
Listening to the album its apparent immediately that each track addresses life issues that you’ve faced – in particular the track ‘Sticks and Stones’; was it important when making this album that you make it so lyrically personal? I think that when you’re writing an album, it’s like all of the things come from inside you. They come from your emotions or the way you think about certain situations. Everything is how you see it or what you feel. I think it’s always inevitably going to be perceived as being more personal.
The album gained massive critical success; does that mean more to you the fact that you made it in your own terms rather than being a team effort like with Girls Aloud?
For me I literally left school, walked out of the classroom and onto the stage. I was in the band when I just turned 17 so I suppose for me to have the support of the other girls for so many years and working together as a team was amazing but it’s kind of nice now to have that 18 months of solid work on that little square CD, and to see maybe my own journey on that little CD. It was important for me that everyone that we worked with, as I’m used to working in a team, felt it was important to them. I never wanted that situation where I would go into the studio and I would feel like ‘oh we’re
writing a song today but tomorrow I’ve got her, and the day after we’ve got him. I didn’t want to feel like just another one on the conveyer belt. It felt like everyone wanted to be apart of the project and that’s why I think it worked.
You collaborated with some amazing producers on this record [Metronomy, Diplo etc]… who would be on your dream list for album two? Oh! …M.I.A, Kate Bush, Missy Elliot… oh my god could you imagine? A little far-fetched…but!
‘ Yo-Yo’ has just been released; you’ve previously said that you thought it might have been your debut single, so how does it feel to finally have a release date set and for the video to be out there?
It mental isn’t it, when you think about it like that. I’m not sure… it’s strange because like I said Yo-Yo was supposed to be the first single, so for nearly the whole time when I was making the record in my head I just had Yo-Yo as the first single. Its funny that through all that time I thought that and only now is it sort of coming out there.
The visuals and aesthetics to accompany your music are obviously very important to you, and with ‘Cinderella Eyes’ a lot of the artwork centralised around the fairytale theme, with
WWW.RMMAGAZINE.CO.UK 07
INTERVIEW very bright and bold colours. Is this a theme you’ll continue into your second album or something created specifically for Cinderella Eyes?
The whole of the artwork was made to compliment, everything had to compliment electro music. The album has electro music in it so there’s so much going on in that thread of music, that colour really and detail were the only real things that could compliment it. I think that this album, in terms of the sound, its ‘up’ I see it as being ‘up’ so colour is a reference to that. You look at each thing as it comes; so ‘Beat of my Drum’, I was really interested in all of the prints; the tribal prints and all of the colour patterns. ‘Beat of my Drum’ to me was all cheerleader and super Mario sounds but it’s cool, you know? So that was for that whereas for ‘Yo-Yo’ now everything a bit darker, it’s like the needy sound of love. The side of love where you don’t know if you’re coming or going it messes with your head. It draws you to wear darker things and wear things are a little bit more serious, older and darker.
You’ve come from being criticised in the press by the way that you look to being hailed as a fashion icon. You collaborated with Atlanta Weller to create the shoes you work on the Cinderella Eyes album cover; do you think fashion designing is something that you would like to do more of in the future?
I would love the opportunity to have a collection, I would absolutely love it! As long as I’m being able to be creative, being able to create things, be it in the studio or working on Dainty Doll it’s where I’m most happy and where I’m the most confident. So to be able to have a collection, I feel like I would never want to just jump on the bandwagon of having a collection, I would have to take it far more seriously. It’s about timing and I think that fashion is very much a personal thing to me. Its like, when you put something
08
WWW.RMMAGAZINE.CO.UK
INTERVIEW on in the morning, it is determined by how I feel and whether what I’m wearing fits my mood or creates the mood that I feel like I should be in that particular day, whatever situation I’m going to be in. It’s very much a personal thing than just wearing a nice coat!
You champion a lot of causes, but most notably the stance against tanning and the use of sun beds, as you’ve got older you’ve been able to embrace the fact that you have a naturally pale complexion and started your range of ‘Dainty Doll’ – what sort of advice can you offer to people who may be going through the same insecurities?
fashion brand of the year award [at the British Fashion Awards]. I just thought ‘you know, she really deserved that’. I just think that it’s incredible, her collections are amazing. Just what she’s done I just feel like that she totally deserves it. Amazing.
‘ Yo-Yo’ is out in stores NOW! Get yours from HMV Lakeside.
Just bite the bullet. I think it’s like I had… what’s the word when you’re addicted to tanning… but it’s like anything that you go through as a person you have to make a change. So many people, like all the girls, would go to me ‘oh my god please just stop tanning, its much better when you’re pale!’ I was so wrapped up in it that no one could tell me. I think that you, whatever the situation in life, have to personally make the change but it takes time.
Do you think a solo tour would be something on the horizon for you in the New Year? Doing more solo gigs would be something I would love to do, I really would. I would be able to perform some songs from the record that I haven’t been able to perform live yet that would be amazing. Just going to have to wait and see what happens!
It’s Girls Aloud’s 10 Year anniversary next year; do you have any plans to celebrate? Yeah we’ll definitely be celebrating – it’s crazy isn’t it?! It’s nice but definitely I am super looking forward to that. As so much of my life was spent in Girls Aloud you just couldn’t not celebrate it, it just couldn’t happen.
I’ll just finish up on your tips for 2012; and artists or designers you’re looking to see more of in this year?
There’s a young designer that I’ve worn some stuff from on the album cover called ‘Tour de Force’ they are little accessories, pieces that you can occasionally wear to fit outfits but I’m a fan of that. When I’ve got the time, I love to check out the new up and coming designers. Do you know what? I felt so happy when Victoria Beckham won the designer

Guru Stella McCartney Womenswear AW 2011
For the Girls
A recurrent trend for women this season is the 1960s inspired trend. Pussy bow blouses with bracelet sleeves and knitted miniskirts have been everywhere the past few months and are key aspects of this trend. Other key pieces to look out for this season are micro mini jersey shift dresses and cute cropped cardigans with oversized buttons. Wear micro mini pieces with thick, high denier tights in black and matching black shoes – preferably knee high boots or pointed court shoes for a real authentic vibe.

Colours to look out for include burnt orange, tan and monochrome black and white. A stand out 1960s inspired piece on the catwalk was Burberry Prorsum’s smart yet chic block coloured shift coat. They have teamed it perfectly with a monochrome cow print helmet hat, it oozes mod chic. For designer on a budget, try this mini metallic intarsia silk blend dress by Temperley London. It is made from precious fine knit silk and features contrasting beige and gold intarsia to add a touch of glamour. Team with minimal gold accessories – just a gold bracelet or ring will suffice. Try this gold look mesh knot cuff bracelet by Dorothy Perkins.

For the Boys
For an excellent investment piece this season purchase a shearling lined coat. Move away from the traditional aviator style shearling jackets and choose a more subtle and smart piece such as a trench or overcoat. Every winter shearling reappears on the catwalks so purchase a good quality item and it will last you for many winters to come! This winter the catwalks were brimming with a variety of choices. Etro, Yves Saint Laurent and Viktor and Rolf displayed exquisite pieces but the piece that really stood out for me was Gucci’s offering at the A/W Milan show. This double breasted shearling lined coat is simply wonderful. It sits just above the knee and features a gorgeous shearling lapel. Mr Porter have a wide range of designer pieces available at affordable prices. Take advantage of their sale – many items up to 70% off. Try this Burberry Prorsum leather and shearling coat for dressed down winter days. The detail on this coat is magnificent, every pocket is lined and even the back has shearling piping. The slim fit of this piece is exactly what you need this season. Avoid bulky pieces, they will look outdated. Wear with dark slim fit trousers and chunky cable knit jumpers. For shearling lined accessories try boots, gloves or a statement hat. These shearling lined boots by Bertie at House of Fraser will look fantastic against some dark blue jeans.

Red Wine: Use a white absorbent cloth to dab and blot the stain, NEVER RUB! Get a warm damp cloth and then work from the outside in while gently dabbing. Start from the outer edges and work towards the middle. Then, sprinkle with talcum powder and leave. This is a temporary measure for emergencies. Make sure you leave the rest to us. Don't forget to mention the stains when you drop your garment off. Grease & Oily Food: Dust with
talcum powder and gently brush off. We find many customers panic when they have a stain and immediately rub the fabric. The stain may look gone but all that's happened is that the stain has been absorbed deep into the fabric. Once the garment has entered the cleaning process the stain reappears. Any damaged fibres will get washed away and then you will be left with damage. Always gently DAB, DAB and DAB... never RUB!

Looking for something a little bit different?
What is she looking for? The 4 C’s to consider when choosing the rock...
accounts for around 75% of all diamonds sold. Round and multi-faceted, it reflects light beautifully.
1. Carat: This is the weight of the diamond hence the heaver the stone, the more expensive it will be.
Princess Cut: A relatively new choice, this is the rectangular/square cut and it flatters those with long slim fingers. It is commonly used as the middle stone in a three stone ring.
3. Clarity: As diamonds are mined straight from the ground, almost all of them have some sort of imperfection, those with fewer gain a higher grading. 4. Colour: More technically, what jewellers are looking for is lack of colour... The less yellow and more brilliantly white it is the better.
Which metal should I choose?
Gold: A traditional choice for engagement rings, but you do have to consider the carat. The higher the carat the more gold there is contained in the ring and therefore the higher the price. Typically engagement rings are 18ct but 9ct is available for those on a less extensive budget. White Gold: A blend of gold and another white metal (typically silver or palladium) and often plated with rhodium to give that important brilliant shine. Platinum: A beautiful metal that enhances the true beauty of the diamonds that are set into the ring. One of the more expensive of all of the metals on the market is known for its durability, after all she will be wearing it ‘from this day forward, ‘til death do us part, for better for worse’ etc. Well worth the investment. Palladium: Never heard of it? No, most people haven’t but this is a fabulous cost effective alternative to Platinum. It is strong, durable and hypoallergenic making it a great choice for those easily irritated by close fitting jewellery.
The Cut
Diamonds can be cut in very different ways to suit any taste, we have listed some of the more popular choices that are available on the market: Round Brilliant- The most popular cut that
Marquise Cut: Said to be inspired by the alluring smile of the Marquise de Pompadour, it was commissioned by King Louis XIV of France who wanted a diamond to match. Long and pointed at both ends it is great for those looking for something unique. Oval Cut: A perfectly symmetrical design well suited to those with small hands and shorter fingers. Perfect for someone who likes the sparkle of the round brilliant diamond but is looking for a more unusual shape. Emerald Cut: Another rectangular shape but with more flat planes, meaning that it is particularly popular for those who have chosen a stone rated high in clarity. This is great for the elegant and sophisticated lady. Heart Cut: The defining symbol of romance is the heart, so what better way to show you care? Although there are quite difficult to come by, they are very fiery and really sparkle in the light.
The Rings...
2. Cut: Put in simple terms, the way in which a diamond is cut determines how it reflects light and how ‘sparkly’ it appears.
Not everyone wants a typical diamond ring, jewellers and pawn shops sell a wide range of antique rings or ones with alternative gemstones including rubies, sapphires and emeralds which are becoming increasingly popular! 9ct yellow gold diamond and emerald ring £299 www.hsamuel.co.uk

Ask
Dr Jas
Have you any worries with your teeth or questions about non surgical solutions? Well Dr Jas is here to help with all your problems, all you need to do is ask! and irregular attendance at the dentist. And don’t worry – if you do lose teeth, they can be replaced very easily and immediately!
Does Botox Hurt? Hyperactivity of the facial expression muscles often results in the development of deep frown lines, forehead lines and/or crow’s feet. Injecting Botox into the affected area temporarily relaxes the underlying muscles responsible for wrinkling, giving the face a more youthful and pleasant appearance. The wrinkles become smoother or disappear altogether.
I am worried about Gum Disease, what should I do? Gum Disease is the biggest cause of tooth loss in the UK. Bacteria found in gum disease have also been found in heart disease so it is very so it is very important to maintain a healthy smile as it could have more serious health consequences.
If you are worried that you may have any oral health problem you should visit your dentist for a health check. Your dentist should carry out a dental examination with x-rays. Depending on how developed the gum disease is the dentist should carry out gum treatment to sort out the issues. Some dentists do not have the facilities to carry out this treatment so it is important they refer you to somewhere that can. There are many factors that contribute to gum disease e.g. smoking, genetics, stress, oral hygiene
The initial effects of treatment become visible within 48 to 72 hours. The maximum effect is reached in about 1 to 2 weeks.
that looks like a black line when it is exposed or it can be the discoloured tooth beneath the crowns. In the last few years it has become possible to make crowns of all porcelain. This means that when the gum recedes away from the crown it does not show a dark line. The only way to get rid of the black lines is to have new crowns made of all porcelain.
For more information contact Perfect Smile Spa visit: www.perfectsmilespa.co.uk or www.askdrjas.com or call on 01708 442 114.
Your facial expression will become more relaxed but by no means mask-like. The overall result is very natural. The effect of treatment generally lasts for about three to four months. And NO! It doesn’t hurt! Dr Jas can perform almost painless Botox injections.
I have black lines under my old crowns – how can I get rid of them? Crowns that were made a few years ago were made of a metal core with an outer layer of porcelain to make them look more like a tooth. Over time the gum shrinks back from the edge of the crowns and exposes the metal edging of the crown. They were made like this for strength. It is this metal edging

On your
Step 1: Look after your scalp
head son! T
hatch not quite as thick as it used to be? Don’t worry, hang on to what you’ve got with these hair-maximising tips from Mankind’s Grooming Editor Lee Kynaston. www.mankind.co.uk
In the same way that a field of wheat needs good soil to flourish, your hair needs a healthy scalp if it’s to emerge strong and healthy - or emerge at all! So make sure it’s in tip top condition by using Philip Kingsley Scalp Mask Intensive Treatment 30ml to gently exfoliate the skin, remove any follicle-blocking dead cells and maintain optimum hair quality. Then follow up with Philip Kingsley Scalp Toner 250ml to hydrate skin and promote healthy hair growth. Two simple steps that could reap big rewards. Top Tip: Not only does sun make your hair brittle and fragile, burning your bonce causes the scalp to product a compound called superoxide that can cause hair follicles to switch from a growth phase to a shedding one. So make sure you always wear a hat!
Step 2: Don’t Scratch You might not realise it but dandruff isn’t just one a disaster when it comes to dating, there’s some research to suggest it may be linked to hair loss too. That’s because the bug that causes the flakes (a yeast called Malassezia globos) makes your scalp sore and itchy which in turn makes you scratch. And scratching often leads to hair snapping off. Research has also shown that dandruff sufferers often have less shine and flexibility hair too - signs of weaker hair structure. And that means your crowning glory is more prone to tearing and snapping. Thankfully, though, dealing with dandruff has never been easier. To fight the flakes try an anti-dandruff shampoo like Phyto Phytheol Intense AntiDandruff Shampoo 100ml or one like Tigi B for Men Anti-Dandruff Shampoo 250ml which contains flake-busting Zinc Pyrithione. And if you tend to suffer from an itchy scalp, stop the itch in its tracks with Philip Kingsley’s soothing Flaky Itchy Scalp Shampoo 250ml. Top Tip: Rough drying, harsh rubbing and over-combing can all cause hair to break so instead of rough towel drying, try gently patting hair dry and try styling with your fingers rather than your comb. Don’t fiddle with your hair either! Playing can cause damage.

HEALTH & BEAUTY
Step 3: Feed your Head Hair might be dead but the follicles that produce it are very much alive and need adequate nutrition to function properly, so stock up on foods rich in vitamin B, zinc and iron (like breakfast cereals, liver and apricots) and vitamin C-rich fruits like strawberries which help the body retain the nutrients essential for hair health. And up your intake of silicon – some studies have shown this to limit hair loss. Wheat, rice and onions are good sources. A good balanced diet is essential to healthy hair and scalp. Avoid too much salt, sugar and processed foods and focus on getting your five a day with plenty of healthy foods and not too much alcohol! Phyto PhytoPhanere Hair Supplement is a useful weapon again hair loss too, since it contains essential fatty acids extracted from Borage oil which help restore density to hair. Top Tip: If you’re worried about thinning hair and are a smoker, pack in the fags. A study by Harvard School of Public Health in America showed that smoking not only increases levels of the hormones that trigger hair loss, it also constricts the tiny bloody vessels that supply the scalp, quite literally starving your hair of nutrients.
Three ways to thicken what you have... Make the most of what hair you do have with these simple hairthickening strategies
Step 4: Halt the Hair loss Hair loss is thought to affect as many as eight million of us in Britain, with over half of all men experiencing some thinning by the time they’re 50 and one in four of us noticing some hair loss in our twenties. Thankfully, though, there are plenty of products on the market that can help slow down the process. So the first thing worth thinking about if you notice your thatch beginning to thin out a little, is a topical hair loss treatment like Lab Series Skincare for Men Root Power Hair Tonic 200ml. Working from the roots to the ends to strengthen, thicken and repair hair, this treatment soothes irritation on the scalp, reenergises and moisturises. Lab Series Skincare for Men Root Power Treatment Shampoo 250ml also improves resilience and pliability, and invigorates the scalp in the first step for fuller, thicker hair. Or try LA Science Anti Hair-Loss System, a new anti-hair loss system which focuses on keeping the hair-producing follicles in A1 condition in order to stimulate hair growth. Top Tip: Hair maximising products tend to be the most effective in men whose hair has just begun to thin so as soon as you notice your hair isn’t as thick as it used to be, take action!
1. Keep things clean
Grease, grime and product build-up can weigh the hair down, making it look thinner in the process, so it’s crucial to keep it clean. Give your hair a regular detox and remove all traces of styling product with a product like Fudge Detox Shampoo 200ml.
2. Use thickeners
Thickening shampoos like Kiehl’s Ultimate Thickening Shampoo 250ml contain special polymers which plump up the hair to make it look fuller. They won’t thicken the hair permanently though so use regularly.
3. Style right
If you’re thinning on top or have fine hair, it’s best to avoid heavy waxes and oils, which can weigh hair down making it look thinner and ‘gappy’. Instead, style hair with lighter products like gels (American Crew Citrus Mint Hair Gel 200ml is good) and hairsprays like Tigi B for Men Power Surge Strong Hold Hairspray 250ml

riting this column for RM Magazine has felt like I am playing the role of Carrie Bradshaw from Sex In The City! The past six months have been very surreal, with RM Magazine asking me to be their beauty columnist, its just amazing! I hope you have enjoyed reading a little into the life I have built for myself; Bella Voi. Seeing as this will be my last column, while I settle down into making more big changes in 2012, I wanted to just highlight what I stand for; and that is to MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD ABOUT YOURSELF and create an environment where you feel relaxed and comfortable. I promote healthy natural nails and tans here at Bella Voi and I hope more people will consider trying this and even convert to keep the trend going! As a lot of you will know many celebrities love my work. I am very proud of this, as I have worked unbelievably hard to become noticed. My highlight of 2011 had to be the very end of the year when Beverley Knight took a trip to my salon at home to have some treatments done for her big appearance on ITV’s Text Santa! It is such an overwhelming feeling when such a loved and respected celebrity calls me to do her nails! I still have to pinch myself !
Another great end to the year was Carley Stenson arranging for Natalie Casey to both have their nails done for their role in Legally Blonde. ‘Elle Woods’ and ‘Paulette’ were totally amazing and I always have such a great time with them! Not only do they want my nails I feel I have made some great friends in them. I have been Loretta Sophia Fletcher writing about my life, Bella Voi, for RM Magazine and I hope you have enjoyed my column. I appreciate all of the wonderful people that have contacted me with such inspiring words! Lots of sparkly pretty love sent to all... Also located just through the threshold of the store is the Organic Day Spa- which presents a wide range of treatments from manicures to facials- all using premium organic products. Staff here can give advice on not only which treatment is right for you but also the appropriate course of after care whether this be a vitamin booster to enhance skin radiance or a cleanse-tone-renew-moisturise programme perfectly suited to your skin type.
Located in The Lakeside Retail Park and covering over 1,400m2 is the Health Village: a centre offering a full health and wellbeing service under one roof. Education and community support are key to the businesses core values and most services are either free of charge or competitively priced. It is conveniently open 7 days a week including Bank holidays and until 8pm on weekdays making it easily accessible for those leading busy lives. The Health Village, brought to you by high street pharmacy chain Lloydspharmacy, is a unique concept with future plans to open stores nationwide and following it’s opening in December 2011 RM popped down to investigate what the buzz was about... We spoke to Vince Herrera-Leon, the General Manager, who kindly took us on a guided tour and showed us firsthand how the Health Village quite literally has the potential to change our everyday lives. Walking in to the store each customer is greeted by a staff member and met by a large retail space with cosmetic brands, fragrance and health supplements from some familiar names and lesser known brands including premium European brands L’Occitane, Korres, Avéne and Darphin . A key focus is on organic products with natural ingredients that do not harm the skin. Specialised staff members are on hand in each department- every one trained to a minimum NVQ level 2 in their area to ensure that they have the knowledge to provide tailored advice for each individuals needs. Mr Herrera-Leon went on to explain how in order to differentiate the health village from a general high street pharmacy; the shopping experience has been made as interactive as possible. I-pads with well-being related apps are on hand for customers to use and regular demo days are being arranged with
Following the path through the store, the next stop is Shuropody. A common misconception is that foot problems are an ailment that only the elderly suffer from. Not true- with the growing amount of people that participate in regular physical activity (and not to mention the strain us girls put our feet through for the sake of those killer heels!) foot problems are becoming increasingly common in the younger age groups. This is the centre to visit for an assessment, chiropody treatment and even specialist footwear. The back of the store is a clinical area, home to Lloydspharmacy, Dentistry for You, Connect Physical Health, Hidden Hearing and Sk:n. Here we look at some of these partner companies in more detail...
x-rays and teeth whitening services are also available on site.

Sk:n staff are available to suggest the appropriate form of treatment for each case and use a programme of laser treatments or skin peels to restore confidence to those who need it back. After making the most of all the centre has to offer, should you need a moment to take a break, at the heart of the store is the coffee shop, a great area to use while deciding on a purchase or waiting for a treatment, so sit down and treat yourself to a bit of well-needed ‘you-time’! pharmacy should probably be used loosely... this is an area where visitors can interact with trained professionals, ask questions, pick up prescriptions and have general checks and consultations (for problems including diabetes, blood pressure, allergies and cholesterol). Located next to the pharmacy in a private booth is the wellpoint machine, a free facility allowing users to check their weight, BMI and blood pressure and then, when they are finished, email or text the results to their phone. Best of all by registering on the machine progress can be tracked and specific products are suggested that may be appropriate to improve each individual’s general health. Good news for borrowers with smaller deposits as 95% mortgages re-enter the market. Mark Flavin from Miura Financial Solutions Ltd comments on the latest Bank of England base rate decision. Not for the first time in recent months the policy setters have chosen the “wait and see” approach, presumably while they await fourth quarter 2011 economic growth data and the next set of inflation figures.
mortgage rates for January are 4.27% (2 year), 4.53% (3 year) and 4.61% (5 year) all of which are below the same period twelve months ago, although average 2 year trackers at 3.50% are marginally above this time last year.
For January the Monetary Policy Committee therefore voted for no change in the Bank of England base rate.
In line with the seasonal slowdown in mortgage activity, lenders reduced the number of products available during December with the number of available deals dropping to a little over 7,000, down by around 5% on the previous month. Already this year we have witnessed several lenders refresh and re-price their mortgage products for the new year, with a new lender in the shape of Accord Mortgages now offering mortgages at 90% loan to value and Newcastle Building Society re-entering the 95% loan to value market. This is good news for borrowers with smaller deposits or lower levels of equity, allowing more potential buyers to access the market.
The Eurozone crisis remains unresolved and we can only hope that the politicians are able to reach agreement to resolve the situation for the longer term rather than the series of sticking plasters that have left the markets unimpressed. December saw the anticipated seasonal slowdown in the housing and mortgage market, although activity amongst purchasers and remortgage borrowers was ahead of the same period in 2010. As you would expect in the current economic climate many purchasers continue to opt for the certainty that fixed rate mortgages offer, with 3 out of 4 buyers electing to fix. Those homeowners remortgaging are also still firmly in favour of fixed rates but the proportion is slightly less, with just under two thirds choosing fixed rate deals. Moneyfacts report that January saw changes in the average rates available, with the average 2, 3 and 5 year fixed rates and 2 year tracker rate all rising very slightly. The average fixed

The Pukka Cake Parlour was started by accident. The founder, Nick Smith a London chef of 20 years, always had a passion for patisserie and loved the creativity of what could be achieved with imagination. Over time, cake requests came in from friends and family and within no time at all, he was asked to produce more elaborate designs. Nick continued to fulfil requests, all whilst he had landed a job in London’s West End as a head chef. It was here where the owner, each year, had a birthday cake made for him on a greater scale. Nick said “This is where I caught the bug for sugar craft on a more professional scale.” Being self taught, he learnt more and more each time he made these fantastic cakes. After producing what he thought were some stunning cakes, he decided to test his skills and push his boundaries by entering competitions. The first cake he entered was in the London Hotelympia 2010 at Excel. Entered in to the novelty class, Nick was awarded the ‘Gold Medal’ along with ‘Best In Class’ which spurred him on to create more. As this set the ball rolling, Nick was encouraged to set-up his own bespoke cake company which he aptly named ‘The Pukka Cake Parlour’. Since 2010 he has won three other gold medals, the last one being at the Cake
International in Birmingham where he took not only the gold, but also ‘Best In Class’ for his novelty cake. Considering the competition, Nick was overwhelmed with his victory. Still continuing to compete, Nick has lots more planned for the future; including building a healthy portfolio for The Pukka Cake Parlour and steadily growing the business by offering quality bespoke product, which he hopes, will stand out. Working closely with each client helps Nick to make sure each cake is that extra bit personal whatever the design or occasion. He also offers a selection of classic and seasonal flavours and also clients choice flavours, all made from quality ingredients. For more information visit: www.thepukkacakeparlour.co.uk

ith Valentine’s round the corner, we think it’s about time we got out our bowls, cake tins and spatulas, and did a spot of baking. This month’s recipe is a yummy Strawberry an Vanilla Cream Sponge, perfect for sharing with your partner.
Spread the jam onto the base of one sponge. Lightly whip the cream with the icing sugar and vanilla seeds and spread half of it over the top of the jam. Sandwich the other sponge on top. Spread the remaining cream over the top with a palette knife.
Heat the oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4. Butter and base line two 18cm sandwich tins. Beat all the cake ingredients together in a large bowl until smooth. Divide between the tins and level out. Bake for 20-25 minutes until they are well risen and spring back when lightly pressed. Leave to cool in the tins for 5 minutes then turn out onto a rack and peel away the paper. Cool completely.

M Magazine was cordially invited to enjoy a plush meal at the 2AA Rosette Tudor Restaurant within Marygreen Manor Hotel, Brentwood. The Manor, which has graced our local area for hundreds of years and was transformed into a hotel in 1968, has quite rightly earned its four stars. By Sophie Barnes

The Venue:
Dating back to the 1512, the grand building is set in along London Road, Brentwood. Known for its four star cuisine, Marygreen Manor Hotel is adorned with Tudor Tradition. As soon as we entered our coats were taken and we were escorted to the lounge. An impressive fireplace, which gave off a warm orange glow, welcomed us as we were seated on large velvet sofas. Our attentive waiter, Brian, handed us the menus, all full of tasty dishes. Once our orders had been taken, we were lead through to the dining room. We were impressed by the opulent furnishings, history and high beams that stretched across the ceilings. Background music set a calm and ambient atmosphere and we were all intrigued to find out what the restaurant had in store for us.
The Food:
The menu was impressive with its fine selection of fish and meats. From chicken and pheasant to venison and sole, we were spoilt for choice. Our waiter, Vic, offered us a selection of breads, whilst we were presented with an Amuse Bouche (or pre-starter). This consisted of a trio of appetizers; a miniature mug of Carrot and Coriander soup, ham hock pate smothered in chutney and Salam Gravadlax wrapped in spinach and topped with a celeriac cream. All individually showed the quality of food on offer.
Whilst we tucked into our main starters, we were amazed by the presentation of the food; we didn’t know whether to frame it or dig in! There were fantastic aromas coming from the succulent beef salad and king prawns, with the scallops and wild mushrooms sizzling away on its slate, and the creamy cauliflower soup went great with the soft white crusty bread. After all finishing the course, we were taken aback by the standard of food we had just eaten. We washed it all down with a glass of the house white wine, which blended well with the foods.
“The menu was impressive with its fine selection, we were spoilt for choice.” Our selection of mains depicted the variety we could choose from, with the meats being cooked to our perfection. From the A La Carte menu we chose the fillet of beef, the lamb cutlets and the saddle of venison, all were succulent and tender. From the Menu Du Jour we chose the corn fed chicken with tomato sauce smothered over the top. The food was simply exquisite! Along with our chosen mains, we were presented with a vast selection of potatoes: from mash potato, new potatoes to chips, all unique with their fantastic flavour. We also got our own side bowls of vegetables but with all this food we had to make sure we saved some room for dessert! The dessert selection process was tough, after seeing the high standard of food; we didn’t want to miss out on anything. From Lemon sorbets to selections of cheeses, or a crème brulee, the menu was brilliant. But even before we ordered dessert, our waiter Vic brought each of us a pre dessert of milk chocolate mousse drizzled in white chocolate sauce. If that wasn’t enough, we ordered a hot and cold chocolate fondant, mango and passion fruit mousse and a selection of sorbets for our final course. The presentation of all desserts was incredible and we were really in dessert heaven; no plate was left untouched! After coffee, our trousers were ready
to pop. The evening had been a superb one with fantastic service and sublime food. RM would definitely recommend Marygreen Manor to food lovers out there!
The X Factor
For those who want a sophisticated evening out, with mouth-watering food, this is the place for you. You will simply be stuck for choice when looking at the menu. The overall experience is worth every penny, setting you back a mere £42 for the three course A La Carte dinner, with cheaper dinner and daytime options available. The staff at Marygreen Manor are very welcoming and the food is so enticing, you will be left wanting more. The Hotel would also be a fantastic venue to hold your wedding, making it a remarkable day you’ll never forget. Marygreens Manor will exceed your expectations, so do not hesitate to go along and dine in a four star restaurant that you will then want to recommend!

Gary Albert Hughes Hailing from Essex, this versatile and exciting young performer, Gary Albert Hughes, is definitely one to watch this year and has recently landed an exciting role for E4’s returning hit dating show “Playing It Straight” . We caught up with the star to talk about his new role. So Gary, how did you get into acting? My journey into acting was a bit of a topsy turvy one actually. I was a classical pianist and flautist before I was a singer and actor and I trained at two of the countries top music schools, The Purcell School of Music and Guildhall School of Music and Drama before deciding at 21 that I didn’t want to be a musician! The pressure and work load of 6-8 hours practise a day was too much for something my heart wasn’t completely in. So I took a holiday to Ibiza and stayed there for 6 months playing the flute in house music clubs and got asked to sing live one time. I found that I was quite good at it and so I began taking singing lessons back home in London and started to pursue a career in musical theatre, and here I am! Tell us a little bit about the role you have just landed in E4s Playing It Straight. Playing It Straight is a modern reality dating show involving one girl and twelve guys some of whom are gay and she has to figure out who in order to win a cash prize. My role in Playing It Straight is a dream role really and I couldn’t have thought it up myself if I tried. I play a character called Gerald The Troubadour, one half of a comedy double act (Robert Castell plays Pablo The Troubadour) who updates the viewers at home on what’s happening in the dating show through various comedy songs. What was amazing about this role is that Rob and I had to be on set in Spain for the whole filming process to write and compose the songs as the drama unfolded. How is it different to other projects you have done? This job utilised every skill I have as an artist. I sang and acted on screen, I played the piano and the flute in some of the episodes (slightly naked I hasten to add) and for the recordings, I co-wrote the lyrics and the music with Rob, and we even recorded and produced the music ourselves back home in London. In no other job have I ever used such a variety of skills.
s e v o L Here in the RM office we have racked our brains for our favourite bits & best buys this month!

You have an extensive background in music and have performed in theatre, but what’s has been your most enjoyable project you’ve worked on? I get asked this question a lot, and I have to say that I really couldn’t tell you, and I’ll explain why. With every new project I take on I completely immerse myself in it and try to make it the most enjoyable experience that I can in order to learn and grow and develop, not only as a person but as a performer. So in that sense I guess that whatever job I am working on at the time is my most enjoyable job. You grew up in Essex, what is your best memory of the county? I have to say, unlike most people, that I have very fond memories of my school Warren Comprehensive School in Chadwell Heath, Romford. They were very supportive of my leaning towards music and they even had a state of the art recording studio which was unheard of at the time. So that played a massive part in my early development as a musician and performer. Where do you see yourself in 5 years time? I am currently in the process of planning my solo debut album and am just about to finish writing my first musical (with Joan Rowan-Taylor as lyricist) so in 5 years time I’d love to be juggling a successful career as a performer and writer and like most actors, I’d just like to see myself still working and earning a living from what I love and what I am passionate about. When can we catch you in E4s Playing it Straight? Each episode of Playing It Straight is played three times per week! Mondays 9pm and Friday 11.10pm on E4, then on T4 on Saturday at 12.30pm. ENJOY!

Dragon
A
fter the financial aftermath of Christmas, festive celebrations and the January sales, the Chinese New Year was still set to brace us and lead us into a year of celebrations. On Monday 23rd January, the ‘Year of the Dragon’ began and the celebrations commenced. England is now looking forward to a year of partying, celebrating the Queens Jubilee and the Olympic 2012 Games coming to London. Here at RM Magazine have investigated the pivotal events that took place to celebrate the return of the dragon. By Sophie Barnes. 48
WWW.RMMAGAZINE.CO.UK
LIFESTYLE The celebrations within China are known as the Spring Festival and are seen as the most important traditional festival in China. The festivities last for a fifteen day period, ending with a Lantern Festival. It’s the time within China for family reunions, firecrackers, the giving of lucky money and the traditional dance of the north, the dragon and lion dancing, to take place. People born in the year of the dragon are said to be brave, innovative and highly driven. Famous people born in this year include Bill Clinton, John Lennon, Orlando Bloom and Reese Witherspoon, but what does a dragon year entail for all you dragons out there?
The Dragon and Love
Those born in the years 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000 and 2012 are born in the year of the dragon. They are seen to have a charisma and charm that draws in those of the opposite sex, whose attention they crave. However, they have a tendency to treat love like a game with their independent and stubborn personality. Their ideal partners would be the rat, rooster or monkey, all who would give the dragon a run for its money, yet being able to share the limelight, ensuring the dragon keeps to the promises in which he or she makes.
The Dragon and Wealth
Planning of starting up a business? Putting an idea into action? Then a dragon year is the year to do it as it is lucky in wealth. Within a dragon year, money is easier to come across whether it’s winning a cash stash, earning or even borrowing money. But don’t forget, the dragon year does come to an end and you will be held accountable for all your extravagances, so beware!
The Dragon and Work
Those of you struggling to keep your motivation up at work, this year the dragon brings you good fortune and you will be able to function better within your profession. The particular dragons that work as sales people, publicists, real estate brokers and politicians will be able to succeed somewhat autonomously within your field of work.
Events in China
Chinas capital, Beijing held a number of prestigious events to enhance the true reflective meaning of their New Year celebrations. The main event was the Temple Fair, which is a traditional cultural event involving religious worship and entertainment featuring all types of Chinese folk art. It’s a cultural experience you would enjoy watching, including
Then a Dragon year is the year to start a business, as it is lucky in wealth. the re-enactment of the ceremony of worship. In Hong Kong, everything came to a halt as the celebrations began, kicking off with 24 hour parades and firework displays, marking the occasion with a unique blend of modern fun and ancient traditions. An electrifying night parade was held on the first evening of the New Year, featuring a circus-like parade, international/local performers and marching bands. In Shanghai the celebrations help reflect its mixed culture; there was a week long festival which attracted the younger generation. The New Year countdown is hosted beside the Huangpu River where a firework display began the entertainment. This was followed by numerous amounts of live performances presented by worldclass acts from Chinese folk music, classical to rock ‘n’ roll and jazz. There was a widespread selection of entertainment for all.
Events in London’s Chinatown
London’s celebrations were hosted at many locations across London. There were parades for the
New Year celebrations passing through Chinatown, Shaftsbury Avenue, Charing Cross Road and Rupert Street, with its final destinations being Trafalgar square at noon. The Major of London, Boris Johnson, attended the opening ceremony along with the Chinese Ambassador to London, Mr Liu Xiaoping. There were dragons dancing, music and live performances on stage in Trafalgar square until the afternoon. A second stage in Shaftesbury Avenue hosted a range of local community groups and schools performing for the celebrations, but if you wanted to take a step into the Far East by walking north from Leicester Square into Chinatown, there was a fantastic lion dancing parade. Along with its authentic Chinese stalls there was a chance to grab a traditional Chinese meal. At the heart of London’s West End the celebrations for the arrival of the year of the Dragon were a spectacular event to remember. RM believes the partying season has only just begun, and the 23rd was the beginning of it. Getting involved in the festivals, parades and the traditional cultural events that took place around the world was a memorable day. It united different cultures together, commemorating the ‘ Year of the Dragon’. We at RM wish you a Happy Chinese New Year! Let’s hope the dragons don’t get too fiery!

Lewis Edwards: 21 “My worst Valentine’s was last year. After booking a hotel and meal, my girlfriend and I ended up going to McDonald’s as she wasn’t hungry, then when we got to our hotel she fell asleep! The next morning we had a massive argument over her fear of birds as there were lots of low flying sea gulls! We made up the next day as she had bought us tickets to go ice skating in Canary Wharf and this got us back on good terms!”
Alicia Court: 20 “One year a guy I was seeing decided to go and see one of my favourite bands play live rather than seeing me. I was so jealous and he didn’t even offer to take me!”
Rihannon Munson-Hobbs: 20 “Sadly one year I had to attend my Grandads funeral. The boyfriend I was with at the time caused hell because I had to go to that and not see him! Needless to say we didn’t stay together long!”

Megan Hood: 18 “Every year until I was about 15 my parents used to get people that worked in their offices to write secret Valentine’s cards for me so I didn’t recognise their hand writing! Unfortunately, I did actually fall for it!”

ith Valentine’s on the horizon we all hope for that perfect romantic date but that doesn’t always go to plan! So, RM got all you lovers of Essex to tell us your best and worst Valentine’s dates, and here are 10 of our favourite.
LIFESTYLE
Kelly Kirk: 24 Frankie Cipa: 22 “A few years ago four of us single ladies got all dolled up and headed down to Time and Envy. We were strutting our stuff, trying to impress the single lads! My friend and I were joking around shouting at each other, when a bouncer appeared out of nowhere, pinning me to the floor with his knee on my chest! I was then dragged out by two men and banned from the club! The bouncers wouldn’t believe that we’re mates so the only thing I ended up pulling that year was a muscle!”
“I once got given a tenner on Valentine’s Day as my date decided to eat the box of chocolates he bought me!”
Carlie Fortune: 27 “My best Valentine’s Day was a few years back when I got married! I don’t think you can get much more romantic than that!”
Charlotte Disley: 21 “I had this great plan one Valentine’s Day to go for a picnic in the forest and then go feed the deers. Typical English weather set in and ruined our day! Luckily enough we managed to salvage it by having our picnic on the living room floor!”
Paula Graham: 50 “One Valentine’s Day my lovely hubby bought me a wheelie bin as one of my presents! How romantic!”
Matthew Bird: 20 “This Valentine’s Day I am flying out to Chicago to surprise my fiancé. I am going to bring her a bouquet of roses to her office, then take her out for a romantic dinner at the restaurant where we had our first date!”

C-X16 is a bold statement of Jaguar’s future design and technological intent A compact, rear-wheel drive, two-seater, with a true sporting character, underpinned by immensely strong aluminium architecture – perfect 50:50 weight distribution Powered by an innovative supercharged 3.0-litre V6 producing 380 PS (280 kW) and 332 lb ft (450 Nm) of torque Hybrid system controlled by a steering-wheel mounted ‘Push to Pass’ button boosts output by 70 kW and 235 Nm Top speed of 186 mph, 0-62 mph in 4.4 seconds and 50-75 mph acceleration in 2.1 seconds with CO2emissions of 165 g/km
C-X16 Concept
Last year Jaguar released details of the C-X16 concept which was debuted at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. Looking firmly to the future, the C-X16 has marked a new chapter for Jaguar. The two-seater concept has inspired new advances in design, in engineering and in vehicle technology to create the most compact and responsive Jaguar in a generation. A hybrid, the C-X16 combines searing performance with beautifully realised styling. 52

Adrian Hallmark, Global Brand Director, Jaguar Cars: “The C-X16 embodies the established Jaguar strengths of sensual design, animal-like agility and inspirational performance and combines these with attributes that set us on a course to create sustainable sports cars of the future.” Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar Cars: “Jaguars have always been dramatically different. With the C-X16 we have moved the current award-winning design language on to the next generation, creating a car that is the very essence of future Jaguar performance.” Under the muscular clamshell bonnet is a next-generation supercharged V6 petrol engine producing 380 PS (280kW) and 332 lb ft (450 Nm) of torque. Already boasting a high specific power output of 126 PS-perlitre, the performance of the C-X16 is further supplemented by a Formula 1-inspired hybrid boost system with a steering-wheel mounted button for on-demand acceleration. Integrated into the eight-speed gearbox is a motor generator which draws power from a 1.6kWh battery pack mounted behind the seats for ideal 50:50 weight distribution. Charged through a brake energy regeneration system, the batteries allow the motor to provide an additional 95 PS (70 kW) and173 lb ft (235 Nm). Mounted in an aluminium chassis structure, the result is 0-62 mph acceleration in 4.4 seconds, a top speed of 186 mph and acceleration from 50-75 mph of 2.1 seconds. The C-X16 is also able to travel at speeds of up to 50 mph under electric power alone and has CO2 emissions of 165 g/km. The C-X16 measures 4,445 mm in length, 2,048 mm in width and 1,297 mm in height and has a wheelbase measuring 2,622 mm. In terms of overall length, the C-X16 is the smallest Jaguar created since 1954 and the XK120.
Jaguar C-X16 Concept Scoops What Car? Award The Jaguar C-X16 Concept has been recognised by the readers of What Car? as the vehicle they would most like to see launched in 2012. Despite strong competition, the C-X16 Concept, originally unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2011, emerged as the clear winner. Adrian Hallmark, Global Brand Director, Jaguar Cars and Ian Callum, Director of Design, accepted the Award for the ‘Most Exciting Car to be Launched in 2012’ from Chas Hallett, Editor-in-Chief of What Car? Magazine. Chas Hallett commented: ‘Whatcar.com is more popular than ever, and its users are kept right up to speed on the latest models. They’ve voted the Jaguar C-X16 as the car they are most excited to see this year, and we share their enthusiasm. The concepts have looked terrific and we’re all looking forward to trying the production version on the road.’ In accepting the Award, Adrian Hallmark commented: ‘The C-X16 has received an extraordinary reaction since first appearing in Frankfurt last year – I would like to personally thank the readers and recognise the efforts of Ian Callum and our engineers in creating such an inspiring and beautiful sports car.’ The C-X16 is currently making its Indian debut at the Delhi Motor Show alongside the C-X75 Concept.

GSXR 2012
uzuki Motor Corporation has today revealed details of its 2012 flagship Superbike – the GSX-R1000, offering enhanced capability thanks to technical innovations that provide heightened engine and chassis performance as well as weight-loss for the new model.
Shaving two kilograms from its kerb weight, the new GSX-R features a plethora of updates, incorporating Brembo’s highly acclaimed Monoblock callipers for incredible braking and engine revisions that provide even more mid-range power. Engine technical highlights include the adoption of Moog derived finiteelement-analysis and fatigue-analysis techniques, which allow for newly developed pistons that are now 11% lighter and aid acceleration and overall performance.

This combined with a finer material for engine tappets shaves a further 2.5 grams off per tappet, resulting in optimized valve lift with a revised exhaust cam profile for a slight reduction in valve overlap. Compression ratio also increases from 12.8:1 to 12.9:1. Along with the utilisation of
the Brembo Monoblock callipers, the 2012 GSX-R1000features further chassis enhancements that offer greater manoeuvrability thanks to a reduction in weight for the front tyre and axle, offering superior unstrung weight advantages. This weight saving is amplified with the return to a lightweight 4-2-1 exhaust system, further enhanced with a new lightweight titanium silencer also. With the current GSX-R1000 a proven track performer, narrowly missing out in this year’s British Superbike Championship by just 0.006 seconds, and current holder of the Brands Hatch Superbike lap record, the 2012 GSX-R1000 , with its detailed update looks set to continue Suzuki’s front of the pack performance.

I
nstantly stream thousands of films and TV shows all for 1 low monthly fee of just £6 what more do you want?
The American movie giants, Netflix, arrived on our shores early January this year and like the US service on which it’s based, it provides any film fan with an opportunity to overload on the unlimited supply of movies to watch day or night. This sounded too good to be true, so we decided to put it to the test and find out how it stacks up against the likes of Virgin Media (which we gave a 9/10 back in September). The sign up process is made simple by just using your Facebook login details and as an added bonus, you can try the service on a 30 day free trial (just remember to cancel within the first 30 days if you don’t want it!) The next step was to get Netflix onto the TV. In our case this was done via a PS3 connected to the internet, however you could just have easily been on the Wii, Xbox 360, via your PC or indeed on the go with your tablet or smart phone. Once the connection was established we were all set and ready to see what this new service could
offer and initially it looked like all our Christmas’ had come at once! With row after row of films with varying genres, all personalised to your likes and dislike; choices which were made during sign-up. After scrolling through the titles and seeing some of the old favourites, some more obscure but interesting documentaries and plenty of films for the kids, the main area that seems to be lacking was ‘New Releases’ and this was my main focus. Under the heading ‘Action and Adventure’ the first three films offered were; Mail Cop (2009), The Princes Bride (1987) and Enemy of the State (1998), hardly the blockbusters I was hoping for! Moving swiftly on to the ‘New Releases’, which as the title says improved my hopes somewhat, included titles like Gasland (2011) and Buried (2010), these were the newer titles.
Final thought At just £6 a month we can’t really complain. We hope the sorting options will be addressed, but on the bright side the download quality and speed was excellent on what was a very good broadband service. Quality and speed may vary if you have a slower connection but overall it’s a worthy spend of your hard earned cash if you watch more than three films a month. We gave it a respectable 7/10.
www.netflix.co.uk
The problem was the lack of search results by genre. You can either have all ‘Action and Adventure’ and sift through all the old stuff, or have the latest films but sort through everything from TV shows to kids films, which is not ideal.

hhhh Valentine’s Day; a day for l’amore and larking about with your sweetheart. But how to mark the occasion? Chocolates? Flowers? Dinner for two? Boycott the predictable this year and have a peek at our ideal dates...*
For the Jet Setter... Paree, Paree What better way to celebrate Valentine’s than in the city of romance! With travel time to Paris only around 2 hours 15 minutes on the Eurostar, and flight time averaging out at only 1 hour 30 minutes, you could be eating croissants and french kissing before you could say ‘honeybun, sugarplum’! Meander around the cobbled streets of Montmartre and get his and hers self-portraits by one of the numerous artists. Climb the steep steps hand-in-hand that lead up to the Sacre-Coeur and marvel at it’s majesty and size. Then as night falls, witness the pièce de résistance of the Eiffel Tower illuminating the dark Parisian sky. If you want to inject some spice into your jet set hit the Moulin Rouge. A show with champagne would set you back roughly €105 but it will be an experience you never forget. Embellished with splashes of colour, invigorating leg kicks and can cans and some very gorgeous dancers, the show really is spectacular. The building itself is also steeped in history; a quick visit to the red windmill would keep your trip cultural as well as amorous. www.parisinfo.com

Thousand Photos of You. F
ormed back in 2010, Thousand Photos Of You, a catchy alternative band based in Hornchurch, have performed several shows in and around the London and Essex Area. After departing for a short break to fulfil other ambitions, such as focusing on studies and jobs, the guys are back with a reformed line up - ready to record an E.P and play shows all over the UK!
Thousand Photos of You are made up of four Essex lads; Jack Miller, Kris Wold, Daniel Gould, who met at senior school a good few years back, and Rob Elull, who successfully tried out as drummer
for the band in May last year. Thousand Photos of You would class themselves as a pop punk band that cross into post hardcore genre. They take their inspiration from the likes of Before Their Eyes, A Day to Remember and Blink 182. They have performed in various local venues including Battle of the Bands at The Crown in Hornchurch, Chinnerys in Southend, The Harold Woodstock Event, The Bitter End in Romford and they have also performed at The O2 Islington Academy in London! Their next local gig is at Edge Nightclub, in Romford’s Market Place, on April 20th supporting Flowers for her Grave. Entrance is £5 payable on the door which gives you entry to the club night after all the bands have finished. The lads perform great covers of LMFAO’s Party Rock Anthem and Jason Durelo’s In My Head, that
never fail to get the crowds up and dancing. Aside from these covers, Thousand Photos of You write all their own songs, getting their inspiration from everyday life, love and emotions. This band are definitely one to watch out for in 2012 as Jack, the bands front man, has big plans for the future, including recording an album and supporting as many well known bands as possible to get themselves recognition! With lots ahead of this band, be sure you catch them at their next live performance to appreciate their full sound.
