Sue Bell founded Essex children’s charity ‘Kids Inspire’ in 2007. It is a community based organisation that aims to support vulnerable and disadvantaged young people and their families. Kids Inspire supports young people in Essex, so that they can feel valued and achieve their potential through therapy, counselling and mentoring. Our families can explore, understand and communicate their feelings. In turn this builds self-esteem, increases attainment and attendance at school and enables young people and their families to make positive choices. This process takes time and patience, but Kids Inspire is committed to turning lives around. Kids Inspire are proud to announce that they have been selected as the winners of the Mid Essex Business Award for Excellent Customer Service in the medium–sized business category. We are supported by the patronage of Anya Hindmarch (international fashion designer). We are also the chosen charity for Rathbone Perception Media, Essex County Cricket Club, Baker labels, Subway (Chelmsford branches) and The County Hotel for 2012. We have continued to receive amazing support from local businesses, such as STV Building Services, E2V, Britvic and M&G, who have supported us through donations and amazing activities over the past year.

The RM Team
Editor’s Letter
Editor Tony Wittridge tony@rmmagazine.co.uk @tony_wittridge Firstly, Happy New Year! Secondly, the world didn’t end. That’s a good start. Thankfully, the madness of Christmas is over for yet another year, and now that January is here, it welcomes with it a time of reflection, contemplation and abstinence. Not for me though. I prefer to add to my list of attributes or flaws, depending on how you look at them. Venturing to Birmingham, the team and I took our seats at The Clothes Show Live and were shown ‘a day in the life of a fashion magazine’. More than just the standard catwalk show, we were entertained by dancers and performers throughout the entire show and the clothes were worn by both the models and dancers. We only noticed a few differences between the shows representation of what a day is like working at a fashion magazine and what our days are like. The main difference being that we don’t dance quite as much. They danced a lot. We said farewell to intern Stacey and took the liberty of crowning her an honorary Essex girl. She showed us that she can definitely party like one and had no trouble keeping up with the office banter in true Essex style. Thank you for all of your help over the past few weeks, you’ll be missed but we wish you all the best in your studies I can honestly say that I’m excited for what’s to come in 2013, it’s absolutely going to be bigger and better than ever and we’ve got many, many exciting plans for the upcoming year. For now however, our lips are sealed. Sign up to the newsletter and don’t miss out on the entire goings on.

exclusive interview
Written by Rae Delanie Passfield
Back in Blighty from the American leg of her worldwide tour, the extraordinary Paloma Faith talks about the inspiration behind her new album, her fascination with fifties fashion and getting naked in the name of art...
Paloma Faith burst into the spotlight like a fireball in 2009 with debut album Do You Want The Truth Or Something Beautiful. Dazzling us with her gorgeous voice and sharp wit, it wasn’t surprising that her next record, Fall to Grace, would be so eagerly anticipated. Paloma explained, “I did nostalgic stuff on the first record, so I wanted to do something that would make people dance”. Romantic and emotional, the album is classic but current.
Put ya lippy on! Get a dress on and get out! The themes of the album seem to derive from human experience, so I wondered if it had been inspired by Paloma’s own life, “Absolutely!” she exclaimed, “Not only in love and heartbreak, but also relationships with friends and family. Life’s quite hard, I sing about that in a lot of my songs. But rather than dwelling on the negative, I wanted to say that there’s always light at the end of the tunnel”. The song Black and Blue was written following the London riots which reached her hometown of Hackney, “It’s about trying to inject some hope into tragedy” she said simply. Fall to Grace is not a product of a bad break-up, it’s about all aspects of life in which we face difficulty, and Paloma is overjoyed with its success: “It’s amazing. When I first put it out I was thinking, if I can do as well as my first album, then I’ll be happy - and I’ve done better!” Single Picking Up The Pieces has been the singer’s highest charting single to date and with the album peaking at number two in the UK Albums Chart, she is definitely doing something right. 6 | rmmagazine.co.uk
With lots of tricks up her sequinned sleeve, Paloma is also a successful actress and has even worked as a burlesque dancer and a magician’s assistant. The talented lady also has a Master’s Degree in Directing for Theatre, so she’s always involved with the wonderfully elaborate design of her staging, artwork and videos. A performer at heart, she goes to great lengths for artistic expression, even bravely getting completely naked in the video for Just Be. “The song is about saying I’m going to show myself to the boy I love, warts and all,” she explained, “So it made sense that I’d be naked in the video. Even though, quite frankly, it’s probably one of the most frightening things I’ve done!” Getting starkers in front of a camera crew takes some guts and shows just how dedicated she is to her art.
I wanted to do something that would make people dance Dressed like a woman from the fifties and speaking like a girl from the East End, Paloma has an unmistakable character, voice and charm. She has a wonderful paradox about her; she is refined and classy but also easy going and down-to-earth. For Paloma, fashion and feminism go hand in hand. Speaking about the size zero issue, she asserted, “If we are honest with ourselves, the most beautiful women usually have got a bit of meat on their bones. It is dangerous for young people to think that [size 0] is necessary.”
It’s about trying to inject some hope into tragedy Challenging current trends, Paloma dresses strictly vintage and is enthralled in a romance with the 1950s. “I think it celebrates the female form…the real one I mean!” she says, “And because of the way my shape is, it naturally suits me better. It gives me confidence; it’s like armour in a way. Whenever I feel down, my mum calls me up and tells me ‘Put ya lippy on! Get a dress on and get out!’ She’s got a point”. Paloma laughs but the truth is that behind the glamour, she’s really just a normal girl. The success of her album will be followed by an extensive UK tour, with a special night in Essex at Southend’s Cliffs Pavilion on February 9th. Of course it will be a spectacle, grand and fabulous, and undoubtedly she will wear something extravagant maybe the famous “toilet roll holder” dress (her words, not mine) from her performance on Jools Holland will make another appearance. For now though, the staging will be kept under wraps, “I enjoy the element of surprise, it’s an important part of the performance but I’m planning on trying to solidify the things that inspired me when writing this album. I’m excited, I think it’s going to be wonderful”. Paloma has real stage presence and brings a beauty to her performance that is rare amongst today’s famous singers. She stands as a role model of femininity and talent that should inspire young people to embrace the eccentric, be passionate and bold, and above all, dress to impress. Don’t miss this chance to see her in concert.

ON Running... So Christmas is over and most of us are feeling the ill effects of the post-festive slump. Full up with enough turkey to last the year and more Christmas pudding than Santa himself, not to mention the several glasses of calorific cocktails consumed over the New Year, most of us are well and truly stuffed and hiding under our duvets, hoping to hibernate until the break of Summer. So we say, what better time to invest in some serious sportswear? Get out of bed and get active! Make those New Year’s resolutions last longer than your hangover and take advantage of some of these fab deals so that when the girls holiday comes around your amazing bikini bod will be the envy of everyone beside the poolside!

THE YEAR
GREAT BRITAIN TOOK THE HEADLINES
NAME: Stacey Causer STUDYING: Ba(Hons JOURNALISM
2012 was the year for Great Britain. From the Royal affairs of the Jubilee and the recent baby revelation gripping the world’s media to the spirit and display at the London Olympics, Great Britain had its moment and succeeding in stunning the globe. The spotlight was never cast too far away as London took on a new dimension sport, with the press crowning the proceedings as “the fashion Olympics” with nail art fascination going into over drive. The closing ceremony brought just that, as the best of British models took to the catwalk including Kate Moss, Georgia May Jagger, Naomi Campbell, Lily Cole, Jourdan Dunn and David Gandy. With Italian fashion taking a step back, Britain looks set to take the main stage. The Spring/ Summer 2012 fashion week took over from the New York shows became a prime celebrity fixture as countless famous faces turned out to support the British industry, with Burberry Possum coming out on top as the most popular shows and across all four fashion capitals. The front row saw a remarkable turn out and included iconic US Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour, socialite turned style icon Olivia Palermo and Harry Styles UK athletes Victoria Pendlton and Andy Murray also made an appearance proving that fashion is something for everyone. Success was mirrored in both models and designers alike in 2012 with Burberry favourite and newbie Cara Delevigne having a busy year. Walking and fronting numerous designers with the cherry on the cake being a call up from lingerie giant and the founder of legendary models such as Elle McPherson and Heidi Klum, Victoria’s Secret.
18 | rmmagazine.co.uk
Following in the footsteps of Kate Moss for Rimmel was never going to be easy, but it looks like Mick Jagger’s daughter Georgia May Jagger has surpassed all expectations. Criticised for the gap between her front teeth, her string of stunning TV commercials and photo shoots splashed across women’s glossies for the brand caught King of print Roberto Cavalli’s attention. His long awaited second fragrance to be released in February will see young and quirky Jagger front the campaign. It was another glorious year for Topshop, bagging Louise Gray to design sparkly makeup products and tops whilst the high end Topshop collection Unique soars with celebrity fans such as Daisy Lowe and fashion devote Olivia Palermo. The constant demands overseas looks set to be made reality as Topshop is set to go Stateside this year along with Reiss thanks to Kate Middleton’s simple yet elegant picks of the brand’s dresses worn in the press.
By no surprise the British Fashion Awards named Stella McCartney designer of the year, and no doubt the stylish GB Olympic kit had a lot to do with. Her successful year began with a complete indigo coloured collection which became the shade of autumn/ winter 2012. Christopher Kane, a popular designer for his variation and use of colour, meanwhile was on French brand Balenciaga’s hit list to join the fashion house, only to stay at Versace’s sister label Versus with the Scotsman and Donatella Versace’s bond being as strong as ever, comparing Kane to her late brother Gianni. With London Fashion Week just around the corner on 15th February showcasing what’s to come next autumn/ winter, the proof will be in whether British fashion was a whim of 2012 or just the start of what is to come.

Dr Jas
Do not hesitate to get in touch with Dr Jas, he’s here to help with all your dentistry dilemmas…RM highly recommend his expertise when it comes to your pearly whites…
I had my teeth done abroad recently and I am not happy with how they look. The teeth are all wonky and disappear to my left when I smile so I don’t smile. I need something quick done as it really affects my confidence. Can you correct my wonky smile? In this case the patient had upper implants placed around existing teeth and then had crowns and bridges placed on top. The smile line was completely wrong and uneven. The centre line was to the left and much canted. No wonder the patient hated their teeth. After checking the health Dr Jas corrected the teeth and smile very quickly with new Porcelain Veneers. They have transformed the smile in as little as a few weeks with no discomfort. They look very natural and people that have them done say their friends say that they look amazing!! Indeed we get so many recommendations from people that are so happy with their treatments!! This is a simple and effective way to give you a fantastic smile, worthy of any celebrity. Indeed they will change your life. Dr Jas has carried out thousands of cosmetic procedures. Come and visit Perfect Smile Spa for a free consultation. Dr Jas is referred complicated procedures many dentists don’t carry out. Dr Jas has seen many cases of dental problems carried out abroad that he has successfully corrected and recommends having dentistry done in the UK in case of any problems.
I have large gaps between my teeth and I have never liked their shape and colour. I do not smile and I am very self conscious! There are two ways to get your teeth into better shape and so give you more confidence in your day to day life. One way is to have porcelain veneers or cosmetic bonding or you could have braces. With porcelain veneers or cosmetic bonding we can close gaps and reshape teeth and gums to give a perfect smile! This could be done in just one to three visits. If you are happy with your teeth shape you could opt for an invisible brace to close the gaps. You will feel so much more confident after the treatment; nearly everyone we treat at Perfect Smile Spa wish they had come to us years ago!! This particular case was treated with a combination of Porcelain veneers, crowns and bridges. I am sure you will agree the original smile is un-recognisable!

I have discoloured, chipped uneven teeth and my gums bleed a lot! I am worried about losing my teeth. Can you help me Dr Jas? As the before and after pictures show we transformed this young man’s smile to something he thought would NEVER be possible. With Dr Jas’ years of experience in Cosmetic dentistry there is no smile we cannot transform!! Indeed many dentists refer to Dr Jas for complex dental treatments. In this case we first treated the health of the teeth and gums with our painless gum treatments. Gum disease is very common and affects around 80% of the population. If left untreated there is a high chance you could get loose teeth and possibly lose them. It is very easily treated with our gum specific treatment. We have over 95% success record at Perfect Smile Spa for treating such problems. Once we were happy with the gums we did Teeth whitening followed by our special cosmetic veneers. I am sure you will all agree that they do not even resemble the original smile?
A really big thank you to all at Perfect Smile Spa that helped me overcome my fear of the dentist! When I made the call to Perfect Smile Spa I was told to come and experience a “pain free” dentist. On my first visit, I was shaking with fear and was a very nervous patient. As I entered the reception I was made to feel so relaxed and comfortable. After the initial consultation with Jas I felt more reassured of the methods used to help nervous patients like myself. Thanks to Jas for all the care and attention to detail he has put into my smile, and giving me the confidence to smile knowingly that my smile is great. I would definitely recommend anyone, especially someone whom is nervous; to visit Perfect Smile Spa as the attention and care I received was second to none. Again a big thank you to everyone for giving me a smile and confidence back. Looking forward to my next visit.
I can give you the “perfect smile”

- SPRING TRENDS The styles for spring 2013 Tying the knot this Spring? Here are the styles set to take the season by storm from a colourful take on the classic gown to the silhouettes and materials that the fashion world can’t stop loving.
COLOUR Although most brides like to stick with the traditional white dress, the brides of Spring 2013 needs worry no more of looking washed out by white, now, brides can go by the colour of their choice. The diversity of colour highlighted on the catwalk included a red tiered gown by Romona Keveza and chic pastel pinks from Maggie Sottero’s gem encrusted gown, to a thigh splitting number with added fur collar by Mark Zunino for Kleinfield.

LACE The most talked about woman of 2012 was without a doubt the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton. Her beautiful elegant Alexander McQueen gown with lace sleeves was the envy of every woman back in 2011, and is still making huge waves in the wedding sector. Fresh for this year, designers worked their magic on the delicate floral fabric with Blush going for head to toe lace, whilst Marchesa and Christos kept it on top, worked into a fine neckline.

PEPLUM The peplum silhouette was huge in 2012 and is still a firm favourite today. The sexy shape directs all the attention to your womanly curves, giving you an hourglass figure which complements any body type. Peplum has injected a couture feel to the simplest of wedding dresses, perfect for any bride to be who wants high fashion without the hefty price tag. (L - R: Ines Di Santo, Alfred Angelo, Amsale)
PORTRAIT BACK Bridal is bringing sexy back for the second Spring running. Lace frames, embroidery and peekaboo keyholes give a sexy yet modest finish to the back of your dress to show off below your gorgeous up do. (L - R: Reem Acra, Anna Maier)
TRANSFORMERS The demand for a second dress for the following evening reception has finally been answered. Removable skirts, trains and capes make a quick wardrobe change to the celebrations underway. Imagine if that dream dress is just too heavy to work the dance floor, but there was a layer that you could just “peel away.” From Oscar de la Renta’s huge cape to Monique Lhuillier’s skirting, say hello to the future of bridal wear. (Red gown by Vera Wang)

-YOUR COLOUR SCHEME The colour palettes for spring 2013 The colour schemes are one of the most important parts to a wedding, get it right with our predictions for spring 2013 and have a on-trend theme that will wow your guests.
POPPY & OXBLOOD The colour of love, red is always going to be a firm favourite. Spring trends have two gorgeous shades to pick from poppy and oxblood. Choose the bright poppy, seductive and celebratory, seen in Oscar de la Renta and Vera Wang’s gowns. For a fashionista affair go for the deep oxblood, a huge beauty trend right now channelled by Gucci and Kate Moss in her new Rimmel sell range.
MINT The colour of choice for a spring wedding is mint. Soft and refreshing, this pastel shade of green oozes elegance and is perfect if you don’t want a bright over powering colour on your big day. From your nails, the bridesmaid’s outfits, table decorations and flowers, mint is a colour scheme which you can grab and run with, featuring throughout for its light tone.

Mauritius In the West Indian Ocean, 900 kilometres east of Madagascar lies the beautiful isle of Mauritius. Mountainous and flourishing with vegetation, the prime tropical beach resort, boasts a number of renowned hotels to choose from. Five star comfort and service awaits you amongst the natural beautiful backdrop, along with stylish bars and some amazing cuisine. Best of all, the multinational history of Indian, Chinese, Creole and European population today is still present in the vast variety of restaurants, allowing visitors to get a global taste sensation in this one stunning location. Relax and dip your feet in the warm gentle waters, framed by palm trees, which surrounds this idyllic paradise.
Antigua The West Indies of the Caribbean Sea includes the relatively new holiday destination of Antigua. As much of a peaceful getaway as it is, there is plenty of new activities and experiences to try. Stop off at the various hot spots in a 4 x 4 land tour, wander through the historic Nelsons dockyard and visit the fascinating maze of Barbuda Caves. Recover at a gentle pace by taking in the St John’s shops, swimming with stingrays and tucking into a traditional lookout barbeque. Antique offers something for everyone and gives you a honeymoon that’s the best of both worlds.
St. Lucia Only 27 miles long and 14 miles wide, the still relatively undiscovered Caribbean island of St Lucia might be extraordinarily small in size but attracts thousands of newlyweds every year. The English V French battle of ownership for this isle before it went independent in 1979 has shaped the culture, language and cuisine of modern day living. Rainforests meet beach lead shores, mountains meet natural reserves and the Atlantic meets the Caribbean Sea in this dream climate. Unspoilt in its opposing sense of nature, St Lucia has the only walk in volcano of the world and some remarkable animals to witness all around from birds, whales, dolphins and turtles. For a natural simplistic way of living, St Lucia offers just that. 41

Hello again and a Happy New Year to you all. With all the shopping, opening of presents and festive celebrations behind us, it’s time to focus on you! Some of you are already on the business path and for some, 2013 is the year to walk that exciting but sometimes scary path. Either way, what can you do to make 2013 your year? Get yourself a Mentor By finding yourself a mentor, you have the opportunity to learn from someone who has been there, done that and got the proverbial t-shirt. You can benefit from their experience, avoiding common mistakes and learning the tricks and tips to running a successful business. Feedback and advice from fellow businesswomen can be a huge help! My last column promoted the benefits of networking and this is defiantly one of the most effective ways to find a mentor. 48 | rmmagazine.co.uk
A mentor can be a major boost to your business efforts and by networking with others, you may well find a business person who is willing to help you for very little - or more often, no cost to yourself. Give it a go! Join me at the next Women in Business Forum 13th February 2013 held at Havering College Ardleigh Green Road, Hornchurch 5.30pm for 6.00pm. It’s a very friendly group, it’s FREE but more importantly, your Mentor could be there! A mentor can inspire you. When the going gets tough, and there’s a living, breathing example that you can succeed and remember, I am always here to help you so please don’t hesitate to call me. Yvonne Bendall - 01708 432871 Happy New Year once again and I wish you all a very successful 2013.
Ladies only gym Go30 in Romford were the proud winners of ‘Ladies Gym of the Year’ at the prestigious National Fitness Award on Friday 30th November. Held at The Athena in Leicester, the ceremony celebrates excellence in the fitness industry and attracts the best of the best of gyms across the country. In its third year, The National Fitness Awards are now an established part of the industry. With nominations growing every year, the high calibre of entries means that to become a finalist is an outstanding achievement alone. Hosted by Biggest loser personal trainer Charlotte Ord, the evening welcomes only excellent and inspiring work taking place in fitness facilities all over the UK. Event director Judith Halkerston said “the quality of nominations in this year’s National Fitness Awards were higher than ever and all our winners can be justifiably proud of their achievements. The awards are the biggest, free-to-enter awards in the industry and I hope that our winners will continue to flourish and build on their great successes of 2012”. The first phase of the comprehensive judging process, carried out by leading fitness publication Workout magazine saw Go30 face strong competition from hundreds of entries, making the final shortlist of six in their category and beating a selection of some of the most well known facilities in the country from as far afield as Wigan, Hull and Wokingham. A panel of expert judges chose Go30 as the winners, praising the club for having ‘a great balance of motivation and education’ and keeping women’s needs at the heart of everything that they do. The awards, organised by Script Media in partnership with Workout and headline sponsor Service Sport, saw over 600 guests attend the ceremony including famous faces such as former international heptathlete and television presenter Caroline Pearce and leading fitness model Carly Thornton.

(December 22nd - January 20th)
2013 arrives with an exciting array of moneymaking opportunities. During the first half of the month, who you know is more important than what you know. If you’re looking for a job, spread the word among friends. They’ll help you find the perfect position. Trust your instincts regarding an intimate relationship near the 11th. It’s time to let down your defences and be more vulnerable with your partner. If you’re single, you can meet someone special at a hospital, government offices or in a semi-official setting. Keep your eyes open for someone with fabulous bone structure. Fortunately, you won’t have to make the first move. The object of your affection will be quick to break the ice. Working behind the scenes works well for you in the second half of the month. You’re able to be much more creative when the spotlight is trained on somebody else. Sign a contract or form a business partnership at the end of January. Having a formal deal gives you the freedom to spend more time at home.
Aries
Taurus
Cancer
(April 21st - May 21st)
(June 22nd - July 23rd)
Your reputation gets a big boost in the early stages of 2013; an ardent fan has been working behind the scenes to promote your talent. Whether you’re in line for a high powered job or civic leadership position is immaterial. The important thing is your talent is finally being recognised. Your powers of seduction will be particularly strong around the 17th; use them to get access to an exclusive cultural or educational institution. With this organisation behind you, it will be possible to travel or study abroad. The experience this opportunity affords will make you a hot commodity on the job market. The final days of the month are good for property transactions of all kinds, provided that you’re willing to move fast. You can’t afford to deliberate in this market. That’s challenging for a cautious sign like you. Treat this as a lesson in how to be impulsive. Sometimes you’ve got to leap before you look!
A powerful attraction between you and an executive type develops in early days of January. It seems as though the two of you can read each other’s minds. If you play your cards right, you can use this alliance to improve your social status and professional prospects. An engagement or marriage will be announced on or around the 11th, triggering an exciting round of parties. It’s entirely possible that you will be half of the couple that is being celebrated. This exciting change of events will give you a renewed sense of power and purpose. A sizable payment will arrive in the days surrounding the 27th. Use it to buy a flashy status symbol. Normally, you don’t go in for expensive gadgets. Buying yourself a car, television, computer, or PDA will give your ego a much needed boost. Your purchase will also make it easier to mix with the kinds of people who once intimidated you.
Gemini
Leo
(March 21st - April 20th)
(May 22nd - June 21st)
(July 24th - August 23rd)
A group project highlights your exceptional leadership skills at the start of 2013 so don’t be surprised if you’re asked to take charge of a creative organisation. Beware of being too competitive or a terrible power struggle will erupt and divert your skills and energies. You will need to make a serious commitment to a person or project during the first half of January. Give it plenty of thought and don’t enter into anything lightly. An opportunity to use your organising skills to transform an outmoded institution or practice will bring you to the attention of someone who will make you a surprising offer. Follow it up with a bold idea near the 18th, and you’ll find current trends will start to flow in your favour. Your distinctive style makes you a popular figure at a party at the end of the month, but a passion packed encounter will take you to incredible heights around the 27th.
2013 opens with an exciting educational opportunity; if you’ve been thinking about going back to school, now is the time to do it. You’d be wise to update your computer skills along the way. Learning to write code will make you a hot commodity on the job market, even in these difficult economic times. Fortunately, you’ve got a natural aptitude for this sort of thing. Your sex appeal is red hot around the 11th; use it to lead somebody special into temptation. This love affair will have a transformative effect on your life. Thanks to your amour, you’ll have the courage to take personal and professional risks. A friend will invite you along on a trip toward the end of the month. This is your big chance to explore a glamorous city. Be sure to pack a bathing suit, as it looks like you’ll be basking in the sun a lot.
Don’t let an attractive newcomer slip through your fingers in the opening days of 2013. Your relentless pursuit will pay off. If you’re already in a relationship, you’ll have the upper hand during this electric phase. Use your influence to get a favour or gift you’ve wanted for a long time. A health regimen will yield impressive results around the middle of the month. Focus on getting toned, rather than just losing weight. Swimming, yoga, and dance will give you the sleek physique you’ve always wanted. Changing your diet will also improve your health. Focus on eating produce that is locally grown, and avoid processed food as much as possible. Your skin will glow and your energy will rise as a result of this new regimen. You’ll get favourable publicity for your talent in the closing days of January. Take this opportunity to go on job interviews, auditions, and first dates. People will be very receptive to your particular brand of charm.

(October 24th - November 22nd)
(January 21st - February 19th)
2013 gets off to a romantic start when someone summons up their courage and makes the first move in the overture of amour. Their attention gives your ego a much needed boost. If you are already in a relationship, this would be a great time to add spice to your sex life. Take this opportunity to act out your fantasies or try some role playing. You’re a lot more sensual than you pretend; it’s time to tap into this powerful side of your personality. If you’re single, you’ll meet someone special this month. Be sure to attend a business conference, political rally, or civic institution. You’ll feel an instant connection with an executive type who has great bone structure. The two of you share an appreciation for the finer things in life. Your new amour will get you accustomed to enjoying luxuries; too often, you deprive yourself of things that give you pleasure. Help from a government agency becomes available at the end of the month, providing you with a sizable financial cushion.
Changing your daily routine helps you to start 2013 on a positive note. You have a tendency to get caught in a rut. By varying your days as much as possible, you’ll stave off depression and put yourself in the path of adventure. Even taking a different route home every day can lift your spirits. Taking a class, learning a new language, and mastering a musical instrument are some of the avenues you should explore at over the middle weeks of the month. Don’t be surprised when you become a hot commodity on the romance market as a result of your studies. You exude confidence when you set your sights on a goal, and that’s incredibly attractive. A career opportunity presents itself as January draws to a close. Your hours will be pretty unorthodox, but that will work to your benefit.
Push yourself to learn something new in the opening days of 2013. Learning how to use a complicated piece of equipment or mastering a software program will make you a hot commodity on the job market. It will also boost your creative output. Writing music, shooting a film, or designing a website will lead to an impressive teaching opportunity. 2013 prompts you to make a fresh start by renovating or redecorating your home. It will cost a little more than you anticipated to spruce up the place, but it will be money well spent. Beauty is as essential to you as food and water. If you’re tired of where you live, start looking around for a new home. The first half of the month is ideal for finding a house or flat in a very posh area. This new residence will improve your professional prospects, as it will be closer to a business district. Romance will meet you at every turn in the second half of the month. You’ll meet someone special at a religious, educational, or cultural event around the 26th. Keep your eyes open for a mischievous rebel who likes to cause a commotion. A surprising wedding or birth announcement arrives at the end of January, setting off an enjoyable round of parties.
Taking a class in early January will put you in the path of romance. If you’re already in a relationship, spend the first half of the month learning a new skill. The more capable you are of taking care of household responsibilities, the better your relationship will be. A well paid job or moneymaking opportunity comes your way during January. The money you earn will help you make a dramatic transformation. Hire a personal trainer, revamp your wardrobe, or get a surgical procedure. Investing in your happiness is a great way to kick off 2013. An advanced degree or certificate will be awarded to you as January turns to February. This little piece of paper will make you a hot commodity on both the job and romance markets. If you’re looking for work, explore opportunities related to the technology, air travel, and research markets. Want to embark on a love affair? You could very easily run into your dream partner over the coming weeks.
2013 opens with an exciting moneymaking opportunity. The more tech savvy you are the easier it will be to land well paid job. Even if you’re totally out of your depth as far as computers are concerned, you can reverse the situation by taking a class. You’re a quick study, and will discover a natural aptitude for gadgetry. Be sure to attend a big party on or around the 11th, where you will meet several high powered executives. These contacts will be helpful to both your personal and professional lives. You’ll be paid handsomely for a job as January draws to a close. Use this money to invest in some new office equipment. A computer, phone system, copier, or fax machine will increase your capacity for netting great jobs. If you play your cards right, you’ll be able to work from home on a regular basis. That would be an answer to a prayer for an introvert like you! 51

The New Porsche Cayman
The new Cayman aims once more to set the class benchmark for driving performance, its longer wheelbase, all-new chassis and lower weight further optimising the established dynamic credentials of the mid-engined sports coupe. 52 | rmmagazine.co.uk
Since its debut in 2005, the Cayman has earned a particular reputation as a driver’s car. For the latest model, the two-seater has been newlydeveloped from the ground up and - after the 911 Carrera and Boxster roadster - is the third sports car model series from Porsche to feature innovative lightweight body design. Consequently, the new Cayman is up to 30 kg lighter than the prior model, depending on the specific version and equipment, and offers up to 15 per
cent greater fuel efficiency- despite its increased engine output and driving performance.
Design: New proportions, prominent lines The new Cayman is more distinctive than ever. Its proportions are new, and yet it is clearly a Porsche sports coupe; an extended wheelbase with shorter overhangs and 18- or 19-inch diameter wheels with larger rolling circumference are identifying visual
lifestyle
characteristics of the car’s more enhanced driving performance. Its styling is marked by precise lines and razor-sharp sculpted edges. They emphasise the car’s low, extended silhouette with the windscreen shifted forward and the roof line that reaches far back. Typical of the more advanced styling is the shoulder line, which runs from the wheel arches, flaring strongly upwards towards the rear side panels. The door mirrors are now positioned near the top shoulder. Especially expressive and characteristic are the dynamic recesses in the doors, which guide induction air into the distinctive scoops on the rear side panels and from there directly to the engine. These offer the most prominent visual signal of the car’s mid-engined layout. From the front, the new Cayman is marked by its dominant cooling air intakes, which increase in size towards the sides of the car. Integrated into these, far outboard, are the round front lights with four-point daytime running lights or position lights, serving as a further unmistakable identifying feature of the new Cayman. Just as unique to the new generation of the sports coupe is the rear boot-lid made of aluminum and the rear section with its wrap-around edges. At the upper edge of the rear window, an LED brake light spanning the entire width of the glass is easily spotted by traffic behind. Mounted directly to the tailgate is the thin blade of the rear spoiler, which - in contrast to that of the Boxster - is higher and deploys at a steeper angle. The overall appearance of the Cayman is more independent than before, offering greater differentiation compared with the previous model.
Sporting engines with ample torque Porsche offers two exceptional flat six ‘boxer’ engines in the Cayman, a 2.7-litre and 3.4-litre, which both combine ample torque with high power in the upper engine rev range. One consequence of this highrevving concept is that although the 2.7-litre has a 0.2-litre reduction in engine displacement compared with the previous 2.9-litre unit, it still develops a higher power output. With its specific power of 101.6 hp/litre, the 2.7-litre engine is the first Cayman to break the magic 100 hp per litre displacement barrier for sports car engines. Both engines now produce their maximum nominal power at 7,400 rpm; it was 7,200 rpm previously. Not only were peak powers increased by 10 hp to 275 hp (202 kW) in the Cayman and by five hp to 325 hp (239 kW) in the S-model; their two power curves also lie above those of the previous engines, which means that overall the six-cylinder engines produce more power at identical engine revs. The new engines draw their air from both the left and right air scoops. In the 3.4-litre six-cylinder engine of the Cayman S, a switching resonance flap improves cylinder fill, providing high torque at low revs as well as a uniform torque curve. Both engines feature variable valve timing and lift (VarioCam Plus) on the intake side for optimal timing in charge changes.
The new Cayman engines: an overview Cayman 2.7-litre flat-six cylinder engine with 275 hp (202 kW); rear-wheel drive, six-speed manual transmission, optional seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK); acceleration 0 - 62 mph 5.7 sec, with PDK in 5.6 sec (5.4 sec with Sport Chrono package); top speed 165 mph, with PDK 164 mph; fuel consumption (NEDC) 34.4 mpg, CO2 192 g/km;
with PDK 36.7 mpg, CO2 180 g/km. Cayman S 3.4-litre flat-six cylinder engine with 325 hp (239 kW); rear-wheel drive, six-speed manual transmission, acceleration 0 - 62 mph 5.0 sec, with PDK 4.9 sec (4.7 sec with Sport Chrono package); top speed 176 mph, with PDK 174 mph; fuel consumption (NEDC) 32.1 mpg, CO2 206 g/km; with PDK 35.3 mpg, CO2 188 g/km.
New Porsche Cayman in the UK The new Porsche Cayman made its first public appearance at the LA Auto Show in November last year. It will be arriving in a Porsche Centres near you in March. The Cayman is priced from £39,694, and the Cayman S priced from £48,783. Standard equipment on the Cayman includes air conditioning, CD audio with seven-inch touchscreen control interface, universal audio interface offering MP3 connectivity, automatic headlight activation, auto stop-start function, electronic parking brake, ‘Sport’ button, 18-inch alloy wheels, top tinted windscreen, floor mats and a three year warranty. In addition to the more powerful, larger capacity engine, the Cayman S adds 19-inch alloy wheels, partial leather interior, and Bi-Xenon headlights. Customers are also able to explore the potential of their new car by participating in a complimentary course at the Porsche Experience Centre, Silverstone. A definite thumbs up from the RM Team!

DANIEL
MAYS
ON ‘MR BIGGS’, ‘WELCOME TO THE PUNCH’ AND HIS ESSEX ROOTS
54 | rmmagazine.co.uk
exclusive interview Your most recent role sees you taking on the Great Train Robber Ronnie Biggs, how did you find adapting to this role? More than anything, I saw playing Ronnie Biggs as a fantastic opportunity to delve behind the tabloid headlines and create a real living breathing individual with all his strengths and weaknesses - and he had many. As your dealing with a real person there was an enormous sense of responsibility and pressure to nail the part as best I could. One of the biggest challenges was to show how Ron evolves throughout the course of the series from the bright, optimistic petty crook in the beginning, mellowing into family life and ultimately descending into the dark despair of self hatred and loathing in Rio. On paper it’s one of the best parts I’ve played to date is superbly written by Jeff Pope. Did you do any research before hand to get to know Mr. Biggs a little better? ITV were brilliant with the research material. A huge box arrived with countless books, DVD’s, and newspaper cuttings about the Great Train Robbery. But of course the best port of call was having Ron’s ex wife Charmaine who acted as consultant on the drama. She would be on set occasionally and was always an amazing source of information. We had dinner at her house in Australia and she showed us the actual letters she and Ron sent each other. Having that personal access to draw upon helped shape the performance and infuse it with a level of authenticity.
“We had dinner at her house in Australia and she showed us the letters she and Ron sent each other.”

2013 will see the launch of ‘Welcome to the Punch’ what role will you be playing? I play a young ambitious policeman called Nathan Bartnick who is working his way up in the Special Crimes Division. WTTP is the second movie from the brilliant writer/director Eran Creevy who grew up in Harlow. I starred in his first film Shifty a few years back, but WTTP is a whole different animal entirely. It’s a contemporary Cops and Robbers tale on an epic scale, starring James McAvoy and Mark Strong. It’s very much in keeping with movies like Heat by Micheal Mann and is out March 2013. Many of your roles focus around criminals, is this the genre you prefer? The crime genre is something I play around in quite a lot. That’s all good with me. I grew up loving American independent cinema of the 70’s and 80’s and films like Goodfellas, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver are some of the best films ever made. At the end of the day any project has to have an engaging story with interesting characters, regardless of what genre it might be.

Did you always aspire to be an actor? I got the bug for acting in improvisation classes at Italia Conti when I was about 14/15 years old. Before that, I just wanted to be a dancer. I was lucky in that I knew what I wanted to do from a very young age, some kids just drift along. It’s a difficult industry, but like anything in life, if you work hard and apply yourself, anything is possible. Yes I’ve been lucky no question, but I’m a firm believer in creating your own luck. If you knock on the door long enough, sooner or later it will open.
“Before that I just wanted to be a
dancer.”
How did you get into acting, did you enjoy your years at RADA? RADA was an incredible experience in that it opened my mind up to different writers and methods of working. And of course the relationships and friendships that you build in those three years. Drama school gives you a bag of tools that allow you to harness the talent that got you through the door in the first place. My time there was priceless and I’ll always be incredibly thankful to all the wonderful teachers for passing on such knowledge and wisdom. It’s a tough industry what advice would you give to people that want to follow in your footsteps? If your serious about it my advice would be to audition for drama school for all the above reasons. Of course it’s not everyone’s cup of tea and you can learn on the job, but the foundation and spring board that it gives you is really important I think. If you’re lucky enough to get a career going, always treat your next job like its your first or last! That way you will come at it with a fresh line of attack every time, and learn to cope with rejection, as it’s part and parcel of the job. As my old man says, put your armour plating on boy and get on with it! Sound advice Dad!

You were born in Essex, do you still live around here, or travel back at all? I live in East Finchley, north London now, but I’m always travelling back to Essex to visit friends and family. Normally for a Sunday Roast with Mum, Dad and a couple of pints at my Dad’s local, The Cricketers in South Woodford, not to mention a round of golf with my three brothers. Last course I played was Toot Hill in the Summer the site of my one and only hole in one playing with my brother Ryan and cousin Patrick back in the day. I had to get that bit in! Would you like your son to follow in your footsteps? I would be more than happy for Mylo to follow in my footsteps if he enjoyed it and it made him happy. He’s a little performer already so watch this space! Hopefully he can smash Hollywood and Daddy can put his feet up! Who is your icon? Robert de Niro was always the actor that I admired the most growing up. The level of commitment, talent and ability that he has is staggering. A true icon. What actor would you most like to work alongside? God I always see actors on the box I want to work with. It always changes. In terms of UK actors I’d love to work with Maxine Peake or Christopher Ecclestone I love the intensity of both of them. I once met Daniel Day-Lewis after a play I did. I’d give my right arm to work with him. Also the director Shane Meadows. This is England was powerful stuff. What have you got planned for next year? I’m in my 7th play ‘Hero’ at the Royal Court theatre. That takes me through till Christmas and then I start rehearsals for another play at the Donmar Warehouse from January. Welcome to the Punch and Neil Jordan’s Byzantium both come out next year. The latter being a modern Vampire Flick in which I star alongside Gemma Arterton and Saoirse Ronan. Where would you like to see yourself in five years time? Who knows? I have gone through my career with no game plan. You never know what’s round the corner and things can change in a instant in this game. I know I want to improve as an actor and hopefully the best is yet to come. If I hold on to that, it will hopefully give me longevity in my career, rather than being a flash in the pan. 55

CLOTHES SHOW LIVE 2013 Venturing out of Essex and all the way up to the snowy peaks of Birmingham, ok, it’s not far North, but it’s quite far, the RM team took their seats at this year’s Clothes Show Live, held at the NEC. Even on the last day of the show, the halls housing the vast assortment of fashion brands, accessory stalls and packed stands still heaved with the hordes of mainly female crowds, all hoping to secure a bargain before the final curtain, and possibly even grab a few Christmas presents along the way. We did. Groups of young aspiring models graced the Britain’s Next Top Model catwalk for, what can only be described as walkcamp, headed by a very confident man in glittery heels. Three of the thirty girls that participated were pulled aside and given a goody bag for strutting their stuff the best. The Show A cross between a dance show and a standard catwalk runway, the show was fun, fabulous and full of fit men, and apart from those that felt the need to sing the wrong words to Gotye at the top of their lungs immediately behind us, the experience was a pleasant one; the half naked men that littered the performance didn’t have anything to do with it. Promise. Ok we’re lying, they had everything to do with it, but they weren’t the only eye-catching lusciousness that made us sit up and take notice. The mix of dancers and catwalk models added an interesting element to what could have been another catwalk parade of models and clothing collections. The models looked as though they were having a ruddy good time and the energy created on stage really seeped down into the audience.
56 | rmmagazine.co.uk
The show guided us through a day in the life of a fashion magazine and we have to say, we didn’t realise that there was quite so much dancing
involved at other fashions mags. Our eyes have officially been opened and the RM office is now seriously considering attending a few dance lessons. However, we’re slightly apprehensive about the tea and coffee making process and delivery, they didn’t include this part in the show and we think that things could get very messy – and painful.
350 outfit changes and they still kept smiling... From a model casting and fashion shoot in Rio, to the latest celebrity’s video shoot and a very Gangnam Styled after party, the 45 minute long show with 40 models and dancers, 350 outfits and 8 scene changes was jam packed, and that’s an understatement. We came out of the show feeling both satisfied and inspired, the super charged and high energy performance meant that as the catwalk models took to the runway, all eyes were fixed upon them, even amongst the group of extremely happy dancers; the dramatic contrast was just too powerful to ignore. Take a look at The Clothes Show doing it Gangnam style here: RMmagazine.co.uk/new/2012/12/the-clothesshow-live-does-it-gangnam-style/

For the RM Christmas party, the RM team headed over to Stratford’s super shiny Westfields shopping centre to taste the delectable delights of...
Waiting for us at the table, and sat upon large tins of tomato paste, were large planks of wood loaded with cured Italian meats, fresh mozzarella, freshly baked focaccia, fritto misto, artisan cheeses, olives and pickles, grissini sticks, grilled seasonal vegetables and aubergine caponata. We got stuck in sharpish and devoured the succulent selection of Italian goodies in no time at all. For mains, the choice between the slow cooked British belly of pork, whole roast baby chicken or roasted sea bass was a toughie, but the team were more than happy with their chosen dish. The mouth-watering flavours in each of the mains were explosive, and contained what can only be described as the essence of Christmas. Stuffed with cranberries, mint, clementine’s, nuts, raisins and herbs, the baby chicken tickled the taste buds, and thankfully, did not look like a baby chicken. The roasted sea bass came with olives, garlic, wine, capers, parsley and the sweetest baby plum tomatoes, and unluckily, did in fact look like a fish. Yes it included the eyes. Yep, someone did eat them. Lastly, the pork belly, filled with herby breadcrumbs, mortadella, sultanas and vin santo, with spiced caramelised chestnuts tasted rich and fruity.
58 | rmmagazine.co.uk
...Jamie’s Italian Desserts followed shortly after and were speedily devoured, we even had a few spare and they too were quickly consumed. The assortment consisted of Christmas tiramisu with mascarpone and limoncello, chocolate and pistachio tart with scrumptious baked figs and creamy Yeo Valley natural yoghurt, panettone ice cream with salted caramel and crunchy pistachios, plum and almond tart with spiced clementine’s They were yum and clothes were significantly tighter the next day. It was worth it. The impeccable service really was the icing on the cake, or mince pie shall we say in this case, and the staff served our meals with genuine smiles and in an unwavering polite manner, exactly the kind of service that you would hope to expect when out for the evening, regardless of the time of year. Would we go again? Yes. Overall experience?

Happy New Year!! Hope you had a good Christmas! My December was pretty crazy, but one week in particular stands out. In the space of 5 days I had to do a photo-shoot & gig in Spain, two days of filming in Essex for a music video, another two days in the studio, plus, I accidentally ended up in the background of a TOWIE episode ;)
Phase 1- DENIAL ‘Faze 1’ actually begins on a cold Friday evening- where one was attending the RM Magazine Christmas Party in Westfields... I was totally unprepared for what lay ahead.
Phase 2 - TIPSY CHECK-IN I was to go straight from the Xmas party in a cab to Heathrow Airport, where I boarded an overnight flight to San Sebastian... via Madrid. 7 Hours in Total...
Phase 3 & 4 - MAKE UP, PHOTOS & PERFORMANCE! Straight into hair and make up after landing, a quick photo-shoot followed by a lovely gig at a Fashion Trade Show :)
Leddra Loves
Phase 5 - BACK TO ENGLAND, INTO GIBSON! So the airline temporarily lost my guitar. Lastminute.com trip into Gibson guitars where they leant me this little beauty ! They have been supporting my music since the day I began, and their showroom in the West End is just amazing! 62 | rmmagazine.co.uk
Phase 6 - LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION! For a charity single (in association with The Body Shop and Larchmont Films) we spent two beautiful days in Weald Country Park. You can check the video out on www.youtube.com/leddrachapman, it is called ‘Beauty With Heart’. And yes, I was the one in the fur hood walking in the background of Arg’s christmas jumper shot in the park that day.
TEENAGER CANCER TRUST So as mentioned before, I am releasing a charity single with Teenage Cancer Trust. ‘Beauty with Heart’ is out on January 8th and is available for download through FairShareMusic.com – It is for such a great cause and I am honoured to be working with them.

She explained, “I started writing when I was 15, I knew then that I wanted to sing as a career. I had been working at Marks & Spencer’s for nearly a year and a half, when I thought ‘I can’t do this any more, I want to make music’. My eyes opened to what I can do, what I can make of myself.” Now, fully focused on her music, Beverley has been constantly writing, recording and performing, all in efforts to develop a solid sound and image of herself as an artist. Making contacts is something that has been hugely influential in Beverley’s journey so far. Her headstrong break into the London music scene has given her the opportunity to work with Radio 1 producer Bez and countless musicians from all over the country. Beverley has a soulful voice but with a fresh, urban edge - something that people generally don’t expect from a girl from South Ockendon. “People are always surprised when I start singing. I love that. I like to think I am different to the ‘pre-packaged artists’ of today, with them, it’s all about making money, rather than making music.” The next and very exciting, stage for Beverley is a trip to Los Angeles this month. Having always wanted to go to the land of dreams, she is bursting with anticipation. Though worried about speaking

Looking to release her debut EP War upon her return from the States, Beverley is devoted to her passion. The goal is to be a signed recording artist but she is determined not to let that dream affect the what she works on in the meantime. Still developing, still learning, she is not clawing to get a record deal. For Beverley, the music is the most important thing, and that will carry her there.
