Sue Bell founded Essex childrenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s charity â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;Kids Inspireâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; in 2007. It is a community based organisation that aims to support vulnerable and disadvantaged young people and their families. Kids Inspire supports young people in Essex to feel valued and to achieve their potential through therapy, counselling and mentoring. Our families can explore, understand and communicate their feelings. In turn this builds selfesteem, increases attainment and attendance at school and enables young people and their families to make positive choices. This process takes time and patience, but Kids Inspire is committed into turning lives around. We are supported by the patronage of Anya Hindmarch (international fashion designer). We are also the chosen charity for Rathbone Perception Media, Essex County Cricket Club, Baker labels, Subway (Chelmsford branches), Channels Golf Club and The County Hotel for 2012. We have continued to receive amazing support from local businesses, such as STV Building Services, E2V, Britvic and M&G, who have supported us through donations and amazing activities over the past year.

ssex fashion week promised to deliver all of the style, charm and allure that the glamorous county of Essex has to offer. With special thanks to the wonderful organisation of Adam and Simon Ryan and the selection of talented participants, Essex Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2012 promised to be bigger and better than last season’s show; and it did not disappoint. Red carpet, champagne reception, plus a building packed with people eager to enjoy the day; this is exactly what Essex is all about.

Arriving at the venue it was clear to see that the day was going to be one to remember. Dressed impeccably and enjoying the charged atmosphere, VIP guests’ leisurely sipped champagne, eagerly anticipating the upcoming show. Teased with the imminent collections in the sample room where the likes of Harry Derbidge presented the latest clothes from ‘Harry’s World’, the stunning clothing displayed on clothing racks and mannequins offered sneak peeks of the upcoming clothing ranges; just enough to tickle the imagination.

The catwalk dominated the stylishly presented room, surrounded by lavishly dressed round tables, each with their own goody bag full of treats for the VIP’s lucky enough to secure tickets to the event. And what would an Essex event be without the faces that we all know and love? Chloe Simms presented her ‘Starship Boutique’ collection and Jessica Wright showcased her gorgeous ‘With Love Jessica’ clothing range. Not forgetting Frankie Essex with the amazing ‘The Essex Emporium’. The catwalk offered something for everyone and included a diverse range of collections appealing to a wide age range. From the amazingly opulent and exquisitely sparkly jewellery from principle sponsors

After being entertained throughout the day EFW continued on into the night, with many people returning after freshening up and being joined by all the designers and models the party was in full swing. The VIP section was over flowing with Adam and Simon Ryan celebs and champagne whilst ‘Roll Deep’ took to stage, the dance floor was packed and everyone was Tresor Paris, to the cutest little outfits from children’s celebrating the success of Essex’s ultimate event. boutique, ‘Dolly Rocker Kids’; with special mention RM says bring on EFW 2013! to the perfectly timed hair flick performed at the end of the catwalk by the ultra cool dolly rocker boys. When we last spoke to Adam and Simon during their preparation time for this seasons Essex Cadi’s Closet showcased their innovative and fashion week, they told us that “this will be the best inspired collection. Owner Cadi believes that we show that we have ever produced.” And did they all have a little celebrity inside of us, and being able disappoint? Not just a fashion show, we were delighted with entertainment from Essex favourites Two Shoes and Essex Fashion Week regular, Tony Roberts. Both put on an enjoyable and party worthy performance, encouraging the audience to enjoy a dance before the next wave of glamorous models took to the catwalk. Finally, when the last stiletto left the catwalk and after a truly successful performance from some of the most talented designers in Essex, it was time for the after party.

The entire EFW team let their hair down at the af terparty! Tony Roberts, Roll Deep and DJ Colin Francis all made it very memorable and was a great way to celebrate everyone’s hard work. EFW Team member

Bags of Talent and a Passion for Fashion You’ve had a whirlwind few months, tell us what you’ve been up to since we last spoke? It has been a whirlwind few months since we last spoke. We have released lots of new products, new Limited Edition Classic bags, sponsored and shown at Marbella Fashion Week and also filmed and aired the ClaireaBella TV advert. We launched in the USA in April, went across to New York and had various meetings with top magazines such as GLAMOUR, PEOPLE, WEIGHT WATCHERS, TEEN VOGUE and many more. I’ve been put forward for various business awards and am in the final cut of two categories for the Women in Business awards. I’ve also signed off MORE new product lines and my bags have been placed into Harrods as from November. I’ve also been working very hard on my new clothing range, which I’m so excited about. That’s not the half of it, it’s been an amazing few months! 14 | rmmagazine.co.uk

What have been your highlights of the year? Gosh, there’s so many! One that really stands out is walking into the building where “The Devil wears Prada” was filmed, going up in the lift, the doors opening and seeing the huge iconic pink GLAMOUR magazine sign! My knees buckled. The most breath taking highlight is filming the TV advert. I did feel like I was in another world, It was surreal! Then the evening it launched I sat with my husband and friends watching the end of the programme willing the adverts to arrive, knowing mine was on the set of ads. Literally as every advert came on my heart pounded, one after another after another until my aBella popped up on the screen! With my hands over my mouth, my heart was pounding and I was breathless and truly touched and proud. I will never forget the overwhelming feeling for as long as I live and breathe. Mind-blowing!

ClaireaBella Dress Tell us about the ClaireaBella TV advert campaign which launched in July, how did you find the experience? It was such hard work. Most of the directing and ideas came from myself, this being the area where I fly, artistic and creative wise, so the pressure was quite intense! I was lucky that I had a great team behind the production, who also had great ideas. It was really fun though with nine hours of filming for a thirty second advert.You don’t realise how much work it takes. I look at adverts in a whole new light now. You recently announced the ClaireaBella Couture collection, why did you decide to expand the brand to include a fashion collection? ClaireaBella couture comes from my sheer love of fashion! I have around 41’000 followers now on twitter, whenever I tweet images of me going out for an evening I’m always inundated with my followers asking where my outfit is from. People like what I wear which is immensely flattering, thus it’s created the idea to have my own dress range for my favourite time of the year! Christmas and New Year! The time we all love to look our best and sparkle. When will the ClaireaBella Couture collection officially launch? The collection will launch on a pre-sale on 1st

When I was younger I was a semi-professional figure skater, I used to design all my own competition dresses, from start to finish. The more eye-catching and unique the better in the skating world. Taking that into consideration and also my love for sparkle, the dresses are stand-out, eye-catching and very diva-esque! I wanted the dresses to be feminine, flattering, girlie and glittery! Which are the aspects at the very core of my brand. They’re based on me, my likes and hopefully other women’s likes! Every woman loves to feel like a princess and my dresses do make you feel like that. Also factoring my favourite time of year being Christmas and New Year the dresses match that glam and glitzy feel. Are there any plans to expand ClaireaBella Couture next year? I really hope so! I’ve started with a small collection that really boasts on impact! Couture could be so much bigger where I’m concerned, certainly if my dresses are popular, then next year I will really step it up a gear and hopefully create everyone’s ideal wardrobe.

My head is bursting with ideas! What are your plans and aspirations for the ClaireaBella brand in the New Year? I never stop setting myself goals and aspirations, I work better that way. The new year holds so much already but as always I keep my cards close to my chest..... All I will say is watch this ever growing space, I love what I do and have an amazing fan base whose support means the world! I plan on just keeping them smiling, with all I create.

This month, the RM Studio saw a hive of activity as cast members of TOWIE began shooting the images for sassy brunette Cara Kilbey’s new clothing range, she’s a VIP, and filming for the hit show. With Cara’s little dog Ralph running the show (he’s quite the diva) we managed to catch up with the lovable Essex beauty and talk about her upcoming clothing launch and plans for the future.

Congratulations on your new range, how has it all evolved?

I haven’t designed the clothes; I’ve brought in all the brands that you’ll see in the new range. I’m starting off small and keeping it to what I would personally wear; I’ve definitely kept it to my style. I mean, I’m not outrageous as I tend to stick to blacks, creams and whites; I’ll leave all the pink and fluffy bits to Billie!

Has Billie had any input?

The only input she’s had is modeling the clothes for the shoot.

Who is your fashion icon?

I have, and again, I just picked out the products and brands that I would feel the most comfortable wearing.

Kim Kardashian. I like what she wears as it’s a classic look and includes different monochrome colours. Definitely not Billie!

Did you have anything special planned for your launch?

Have you got any other business adventures that you’ll want to pursue?

I didn’t plan a thing! I was literally so stressed and

time consuming job. What with TOWIE, it would be so hard to juggle.

There are rumours about a TOWIE film; would you want to be a part of that?

I would LOVE to do a film, but I really don’t know what‘s going on with that. It’s all rumours in the magazines at the moment, but who knows?

And the future? Do you have any plans?

RM Magazine were invited down to The Beauty Baah’s 1st birthday and the launch party of The Beauty Baah Boutique, a fantastic new service bringing beauty and fashion direct to your door! The event took place at Faces Nightclub, Gants Hill and was hosted by Social Element Events and PR who are proud to host some of the best and most exclusive nights in Essex. During the night we caught up with the inspirational Sarah and Michael Baah, to find out more!

What is the beauty baah? It’s a beauty and fashion service, it’s every girls’ dream. You can have all your treatments and buy as many clothes as you like all in the comfort of your own home. It came from me hating the hassle that goes into a night out. I am a busy mum of two and finding a day for tanning, lashes, hair, nails and then finding something to wear on top of my busy lifestyle was pretty much impossible. So where did the idea for The Beauty Baah Boutique come from? It’s just a natural progression from what we do. Our clients have often asked us about what they should wear and some just haven’t got the time to shop. We hold consultations with our clients to educate them on what will best suit them and their body shape. The Boutique allows people to shop online or have the clothes brought to them to try on. We have also launched our new Beauty Baah Boutique parties allowing you to enjoy fashion with friends. What is your target market? Our target market is anyone who enjoys being pampered and looking their best on a night out but doesn’t necessarily have time to get to the salons and boutiques. We cater for people as young as 16 and are aware of the risks of sunbeds so openly promote the use of our safe Sienna X spray tans. We have something for everyone and will even find a unique outfit for your special occasion.

We collectively have 12 years experience in the retail and fashion industry, so we know what we are talking about and can advise customers from what’s “in” to what to wear on their first date. All my teeth are very loose! I am so scared they might fall out! What can I do? The first port of call is to have a thorough examination with the dentist. From this they can advise you which will be the best option of treatment for you. If the teeth are beyond saving, it is advisable to have them removed as soon as possible, so that you can have teeth fitted immediately. The dentures will be worn for approximately three months and this allows the jaw and gums to heal. It is also possible to have immediate implants depending on each individual case. The next stage is to decide which type of treatment you would like. Some people are perfectly happy with dentures and at this stage permanent dentures can be made that will fit exactly and provide many years of problem free eating. The other alternative is to have implants which can support a small horseshoe shaped denture which eradicates the problem of having the palate covered and lets you enjoy your food. Implants can also support ceramic bridges which is a more fixed type of tooth replacement. Whichever type of treatment you decide on it will give you the confidence to enjoy your life without the fear of your teeth falling out.

I have always hated my teeth, they stick out and I hate their shape! What can I do to correct this? If you hate the appearance of your teeth and have done for a very long time, it’s still not too late to do something about it. It depends on how far your teeth stick out, your deadline for treatment to be finished and of course your budget. There are two ways to get your teeth into better shape and so give you more confidence in your day to day life. One way is to have porcelain veneers, but if your teeth stick out a lot this may not be the best option. The National Fitness Awards are the biggest and best free-to-enter awards in the gym industry and they recognise excellence, innovation and hard work.

Trophies will be handed out at a glittering ceremony on November 30 at The Athena in Leicester, hosted by personal trainer and TV personality Charlotte Ord – giving the entire industry the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our winners and mark the end of another successful year in business.

The 2012 awards, organised by Script Media in conjunction with leading fitness magazine WorkOut, were launched at the beginning of the year and hundreds of gyms entered before nominations closed at the beginning of September. Six facilities were then chosen in each category as finalists.

“Our awards evening always has a party atmosphere and we are working hard to ensure that the evening will not only have all the excitement of the winners being announced but will also celebrate excellence and innovation in our industry.

Each of these will be visited by the National Fitness Awards judging team with members traveling to gyms as far north as Aberdeen and as far south as Falmouth to meet the owners and staff, tour the facilities and present a detailed report to an expert panel of judges.

Developing a Firm Lean Body

The secret to achieving a firm, lean body is really no secret at all. It is our skeletal muscles (those muscles which give our body shape and movement) which give our bodies a lean, firm appearance. If muscles sag or are covered in fatty tissue, our bodies take on a wholly different appearance. For a better looking body therefore we must reduce the excess fatty deposits and tighten, tone and strengthen our muscles. This will give us better shape and eliminate the wobbly bits! One thing we clearly must NOT do is to lose any of our skeletal muscle, something it is quite easy to do by excess dieting for example. One only has to look at an anorexic to see how frail they have become. Our muscles play a major role when it comes to burning fat! Muscles burn more calories than any other tissue in the body. That’s why an exercise programme that involves using our musculature is the most effective way to lose weight. The only way to avoid muscle loss when slimming is to exercise your muscles. Only exercise can firm and strengthen muscles and eliminate “sag”! Lets be clear on one thing here however. Not all exercise will strengthen your muscles. Many slimmers believe cardio activity i.e. aerobics, jogging on treadmills, etc., is the only way to slim down. Nothing could be further from the truth. Cardio doesn’t strengthen muscles!

Cardio will condition the heart and lungs and improve cardiovascular fitness but as a slimming regime, cardio is a waste of time and energy! Just think about it. A full 60 minutes of jogging on a treadmill will probably burn no more than 600 to 800 calories. When you consider that you would need to burn at least 3,500 calories to rid the body of just one pound of fat, it soon becomes obvious that the hour of treadmill pounding was a bit pointless.

Once we begin to strengthen muscles with isotonic exercise, their elasticity (tonus) increases and they start to do the job they were designed to do. Skeletal muscles are meant to be the body ’s natural corset, holding us in, in all the right places! That’s why our members start to see dramatic inch loss throughout the body within just a few weeks of starting the Go30 programme without the need for cardio activity!

To develop the firm, lean muscles that will burn more calories and will give us a “dream“ figure requires Isotonic” exercise. That is an exercise programme that strengthens muscles throughout the body by working them against some form of resistance. Only Isotonic exercise eliminates “sag” – cardio can’t do this. That’s why the Go30 workout is primarily Isotonic and does not require you to perform unnecessary cardio in the way that most other circuit gyms do.

Swedish meatballs with redcurrant sauce Try your hand at this family favourite from Waitrose. Using the seasons finest British produce, Swedish meatballs are a quick, easy and healthy supper. 1. Tear the bread into small pieces and place in a large bowl. Beat together the egg and milk then pour over the bread and set aside for 5 minutes. Using a fork, mash up the mixture until pulpy. 2. Add the pork, lemon thyme and nutmeg and mix together. With damp hands, shape the mixture into 28 even-sized balls. 3. Heat a tablespoon of oil in a large frying pan and cook the meatballs for 10–12 minutes, turning frequently to keep

them rounded, until browned and cooked through. Lift out with a slotted spoon, place in a serving dish and keep warm. 4. If the pan is dry, add a tablespoon of oil. Add the flour to the hot pan and cook for 1 minute. Mix in the stock and redcurrant jelly, stirring to make a smooth sauce (pass it through a fine strainer if you want it super-smooth). Stir in the cream then pour over the warm meatballs. Serve with mash and a sprigs of thyme.

With the power output of its twin-turbocharged engine increased by ten per cent to 550 hp, the new Turbo S is the definitive Porsche Cayenne in which to cover ground quickly. LEXUS BLUE AWAY THE COMPETITION

Lexus has revealed a new high performance sports coupe concept at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney, the LF-LC Blue.

The full petrol-electric system in the LF-LC produces a maximum 500bhp (372kW), more power than any other Lexus hybrid.

A further development of the model which became the sensation of the Detroit motor show earlier this year, it swaps that car’s burning red exterior for a lustrous Opal Blue finish, inspired by the natural base colour of the Australian gemstone.

In true theatrical style, we were greeted by exquisitely dressed show girls at The Menzies Regent Hotel in Chigwell, wearing welcoming smiles and leading guests upstairs to a room overlooking the stunning chandeliers and opulently dressed tables, situated in the room that awaited us. Sipping champagne and enjoying the friendly and animated atmosphere gave everyone in the room a little taster of the night to come. Once seated, we were promptly served our plush three course meal, giving guests the chance to converse with their fellow table members and anticipate the upcoming night’s events, and once dessert had been devoured, it was time for the show to begin. Table top burlesque dancers got the evening underway as we enjoyed a number of class acts from FL Toppers and Jammy Show Productions, wowing the audience with powerful vocals and highly entertaining performances. The auction started with a bang with prizes including a flight on a stunt plane, afternoon tea at The Savoy, and a wonderful opportunity for an aspiring actor or actress to appear in the Queen’s Theatre Christmas pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk. Generously, the winner of the silent auction donated his prize back to Queens, allowing the Formula 1 merchandise to be auctioned for a second time and raising even more money for the well deserving Queens Theatre. After the excitement of auction, what would a charity night be without a raffle? The lucky winners chose their prizes from a wonderful selection including an indulgent gift hamper, a bottle of Bollinger and luxurious scarves and a box of chocolates to name but a few. As the evening drew to a close, live band Eden’s Gallery took to the stage to finish the truly amazing night in true showbiz fashion, and as you would expect from an establishment that lives and breathes theatre, showbiz and live performance, the dance floor was completely occupied from start to finish. Money raised on the night help fund the Queen’s Education and Outreach programme, covering a wide range of projects and helping to keep ticket prices affordable for all. 47

UNSIGNED:SEARCHING ALASKA Working hard and aiming high, Searching Alaska are starting as they mean to go on. Having self-released a great sounding EP their success as an unsigned band is inspiring, and this is just the beginning.

In the unsigned underworld there is an abundance of hopeful bands, battling for their own recognition and opportunity. It’s tough work keeping from drowning in the sea of aspiring acts and, for a band to stand out, there has to be a passion for music audible in their homemade tracks. Let me introduce Searching Alaska, an Essex/Surrey pop-punk band who have just this. Bursting with energy and dripping with talent, they are well on their way.

HOMETOWN: Essex/Surrey

Considering the band only finalised their line-up in early 2012, the music they are producing is impressive. Effortless, catchy and well-written, their self-released EP “Summits” is a smash of a debut. The record was even mastered by Paul Leavitt, who has previously worked with the likes of American pop-punk sensation All Time Low. A remarkable achievement for the five young musicians. In September Searching Alaska played their first headlining show at The Square in Harlow. Despite being out of their familiar gigging circuit, the crowd loved them. Vocalist Christina explained, “They got really involved. There were people right at the front of the stage, enjoying the music, even a mosh pit or two!” When not writing, recording or gigging, Searching Alaska are busy making a name for themselves, having already being part of the Kerrang! Unsigned Heroes feature and having their record broadcast on BBC radio. If they

continue like this, it will be simply a matter of time before they score a record deal. You heard it here first.

We recorded five tracks at the beautiful Sphere Studios in south London, and I had the chance to lay down one of the songs live on an amazing grand piano with a string quartet. It was very emotional... or... since we’re in Essex you could say? moshhaha! I will announce more about the EP all in good time... but its going to be a really special one and I can’t wait to share it with everyone!

Birthday Weekends.... in a Church! It was recently my birthday and group of friends and I have this tradition of renting out a cottage in the middle of nowhere and its always such a laugh! This year we stayed in the beautiful Rishangles Old Church just a short drive from Colchester, and yes... it is actually a renovated church! Surprisingly un-haunted (hehe) and in a stunning location in the countryside :-) The place was unbelievable, with access to the roof from the bell tower and a gorgeous living room with a grand piano in there, too. RM Magazine, as sponsors, were cordially invited to enjoy an evening of prestigious awards, alongside 40 local businesses in the running across 16 categories for this year’s Havering Business Awards.

n its eighth year, the Havering Business Awards recognise and award exceptional businesses within the area of Havering, adding the well deserving category, ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year’ sponsored by yours truly, RM Magazine. Here we give you all of the news from the night’s lavish events, plus the results from each category with interviews from all of the worthy winners.

Hosted in a stunning marquee in the grounds of Maryland’s Golf Course, the Havering Business Awards 2012 was set to be a night of true indulgence. Award winning comedian and actor, Tim Vine

hosted the superbly organised event, and during the mouth-watering three course meal, singer Carly Hipson sang an array of songs to suit all tastes. After the last dessert plate left the table, finally the time came to announce the winners. It had been a long wait for the finalists and now the time had come to finally declare the winner of the first award, Best Business in the Community, sponsored by Neopost. Acumen Design won the first award of the night, and after collecting his award, we caught up with Director Ray Calder and found out what the win meant to him and his company. 63

It makes us extremely proud to take this award tonight.” Best Hospitality was up next, going to the Queens Theatre for the second year running. The Queens Theatre spoke to RM and revealed the pressure that they felt to remain at the top. They weren’t expecting the award this year and it came as an extra surprise not to walk away empty handed. Next to take the stage were the winners of the Best Small Business award, won by Divine Water Plumbing, Heating and Electrical Ltd. second year that we have won and we were really surprised that this year we continued to get noticed. It is a fantastic award; the Havering Business awards are fantastic. It helped us last year, and this year I’m sure it will again.” Lakehouse Contracts Ltd followed, taking the award for Customer Care. “We are over the moon! It’s defiantly something to be proud of ”. Now in full swing, it was time to present the award for Excellence in Marketing to the Brewery Centre in Romford. Rubie Charalambous accepted the award and revealed what it means to the team. “It’s brilliant, it’s the first time we have

actually entered. We have been very strong and clear about our objectives and this is our time. We want people to experience the Brewery as a leisure experience so that they can enjoy it and can go back and remember it as a good memory.” Next on the agenda was the Special Award for dedication to the Havering Business awards over previous years. Winner and Molly’s Florist owner Christine Smith commented, “It’s fantastic, all the community spirit being created, I love it!”

We’re glad that the judges recognised the innovation in our new product and we are so excited by that. It’s really lovely, like a dream come true. Our hard work has paid off and that’s all we can say. We will continue and plan to take over the world!”

Dizzy Di then walked away with the Independent Retailer of the Year award, followed by Heavenly Beauty Salon who the New Business Award. Apprentice of the year then went to young Frankie Graves for her work at Toddle-Inn Day Nursery. The next award, Young Entrepreneur of the year, was presented by our very own RM Magazine representative, Barry Hicks. Our sponsored award went

But I really wasn’t expecting it, I’m just so shocked.” Business Person of the Year went to Warren Davis from Ignite. “I’m overwhelmed, and that’s the best way to put it. It’s quite emotional as I really didn’t think I would win.” Finally it was time for the three finalists, Ignite Service Provider Ltd, Thomas Sinden Ltd and Click Hearing to find out who would be crowned winners of the Havering Business Awards 2012. Winners, Thomas Sinden Ltd took to the stage to collect their prestigious award, receiving a standing ovation from the congratulatory and admiring room. “Tonight we are just a small part of a big

RM Magazine would like to congratulate all of the winners and nominees for their success, achievements and continual support for the local community, it was also nice to see that lots of the nominees and four of the winners are members of the Havering Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
