From the
Editor In this month’s issue, we’ve compiled the top 10 summer essentials that you’ll be able to fit in your special summer handbag, to keep you looking fresh and bronzed throughout the summer, that way, you don’t have to rely on any actual sun to do the bronzing for you. It’s cheating, but who’s going to know? The scented nail varnish looks particularly interesting, although we don’t recommend randomly asking people to smell your finger, that’s really gross. If you’re a Downton Abbey fan, read our interview with Romford born Michelle Dockery and her rise to fame thanks to the amazingly popular period drama on ITV. Read it on P.22, it’s very elegant. We also look into some of the crazy diets the Hollywood celebs follow on a daily basis, and with summer almost here, and it will get here eventually, we also recommend some healthy and less dangerous ways to keep in shape and reach a bikini body naturally. BB, CC, DD? Those are creams for your face by the way; I don’t have a stutter when reciting the alphabet. If you’re thinking what’s next and what exactly do they do, we’ve got them explained on P.13. We’re also taking bets on what the next cream will be called. We’re thinking Edible Eyes. It’ll be specifically for your eyes and will make people want to eat them. What do you think?

Ditch the Diets Summer is finally here, meaning that we are going to have to reluctantly peel ourselves out of our winter layers and get ready for the beach; easier said than done! Looking good may be part of the job when you’re a celebrity, but it can’t be as easy as it looks, and according to some of the extreme diets some celebs have tried, it isn’t! Below is a mix of the strange and the downright dangerous diets that some of the hottest celebs in Hollywood are rumoured to be experiencing.
The Paleo Diet (Megan Fox) Taking inspiration from our caveman ancestors, you can choose between grass-produced meats, fish and fresh fruits and vegetables. It has been dubbed ‘the lifelong plan to optimise health and fitness.’ But a lifetime without sugar, salt, or even dairy seems like a very long time!
RM Recommends these top 5 ways to stay healthy without the dramas of dieting!
The Master Cleanse (Beyonce)
Have Breakfast
This consists of fresh lemon juice, rich Maple Syrup, and cayenne pepper into pure water. The dieter is asked to drink a minimum of six to twelve glasses of this a day. So you did read that correctly, there is no food involved in this cleanse; I hope you weren’t hungry.
This jump-start to your metabolism goes a long way. People who incorporate breakfast into their diets feel more energized throughout the day and tend to snack and eat less at night. Eat a Healthy Diet A healthy diet includes a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy products and lean proteins. These foods contain vitamins and minerals that help to protect your heart and bones. Avoid sugars and high-cholesterol foods. Exercise Regularly Engaging in physical exercise helps to burn calories, keeps your lungs and heart healthy and reduces your blood pressure, according to the University of Cincinnati. Exercise between 30 to 60 minutes four days per week. The Ice Cube Diet (Renee Zellweger)
The Baby food Diet (Jennifer Aniston, Cheryl Cole) Some celebs are rumoured to have eaten the actual food from the jar, but it’s much healthier to puree the food yourself. A possible treat if someone else is doing it, but standing over the blender 14 times a day to puree your food is enough to make you go gaga.
Making a splash a few years ago, this diet doesn’t mean that the slimmer only eats regular ice instead of real food, rather the cubes contain extracts of a plant known to suppress appetite. But it’s probably best to remember that if a diet sounds too good to be true, then it most certainly is.
Drink in Moderation Consuming excess amounts of alcohol can damage the liver and pancreas, according to the University of Cincinnati. Alcohol consumption also can lead to depression and alcoholism---two conditions that severely affect your overall health. Get Enough Sleep Lack of sleep can lead to difficulty concentrating throughout your day, anxiety and other adverse health conditions, according to the Times Online. Aim to get between seven to nine hours of sleep per night.

Cancer (June 22nd - July 23rd)
Love
You’ll have a wonderful opportunity to take a romantic break in the middle of July.
Lifestyle
The early days of July are perfect for revamping your look. Get a new hairstyle, update your wardrobe, and buy some fashionable accessories. As a general rule, you don’t like to spend money on yourself. Stop feeling guilty about spoiling yourself. When you treat yourself well, you’ll follow suit.
Money
An argument over money will erupt as July moves into August. You’re tired of someone holding their hand out every time you have a little extra cash in your pocket. You feel you are being taken for granted and you are right. Stop letting them lay guilt trips on you or, worse still using emotional blackmail to get what they want. You work hard for your money, and have every right to spend it on exactly what you want. It’s time to draw some stricter boundaries in this relationship.
8 | rmmagazine.co.uk
Leo
(July 24th - August 23rd)
An opportunity to volunteer for a hospital or spiritual organisation will present itself on or around the 8th. By lending your efforts to this worthy institution, your fortunes will start to improve. Although your duties won’t be very glamorous, they will provide you with a degree of emotional satisfaction you’ve never experienced.
Virgo
(August 24th - September 23rd)
Being away from home allows you to relax and let your hair down. Beware of overdoing it with food and drink. Your system has always been delicate. If you treat your body like a temple, you’ll be able to take advantage of a flirtation with one of the locals.
Libra
(September 24th - October 23rd)
A career opportunity will arrive on or around the 8th, helping you make money from your intellectual abilities. You have a way of putting customers and clients at ease, even when you’re delivering bad news. Be sure to underscore this ability when going on interviews.
Scorpio
(October 24th - November 22nd)
By the time the 8th arrives, you’ll be given a marvellous opportunity to advance your education. Studying alongside an expert will give you a new lease on life. You might even decide to change the entire course of your life, pursuing a career or lifestyle that resonates with your spirit.
Sagittarius
(November 23rd - December 21st)
Trust your instincts regarding your latest fan. It’s better to keep them at arm’s length than give them encouragement. The days surrounding the 8th are perfect for getting closer to someone you really love.
Capricorn
(December 22nd - January 20th) Focus on finding new business, generating sales, and closing deals. Your partner is better suited to promotional efforts and customer service. By the third week of the month you’ll be in a good position to launch a blog or write a book.
Aquarius
(January 21st - February 19th)
Give an unpleasant job to a relative who hasn’t been doing their fair share. You’re tired of doing the lion’s share of work. By mid-July, you’ll be able to revisit one of your favourite vacation spots. Be sure to take a camera along to record all of your happy memories.
Aries
(March 21st - April 20th)
Love and money are like chalk and cheese in early July. There’s an even greater gulf growing between your world of work and your private life. With tensions like these pulling you this way and that you need to shed anything or anyone that has passed their sell by date.
Taurus
(April 21st - May 21st)
Mid-July is ideal for a taking an overseas vacation. If you’re single, you’ll meet someone special on this trip. Don’t worry if there’s a big age difference involved; this will only add spice to your union.
Gemini
(May 22nd - June 21st)
Good news arrives on the financial front near the 8th, when you’re awarded a rise, well paid post, or cash reward. Spend as much time with family as possible as July turns into August. The support of your relatives will turn out to be invaluable.
Pisces
(February 20th - March 20th)
The 8th is perfect for embarking on a love affair or launching a creative project. You’re determined to make more time for the people and activities you love. Take this opportunity to shed your life of some loathsome chores.

First there were BB creams, then CC creams made their way onto the beauty scene, now get ready for the latest development: DD creams. But before we explore this new product, do you actually know what the others do? Let’s learn this beautiful alphabet.
BB
Beauty/blemish Balm creams arrived last year with a Big Bang, but what made the industry go so mad? They’re basically what a woman would be if she were made into a cosmetic. They’re a multitasking marvel and their benefits mean some BB creams can have up to ten different claims on the packaging! Their all singing, all dancing ingredients can include suncream, primer, concealer, moisturiser, illuminator and foundation. Others also help to combat specific skin issues like ageing and dullness.
CC
There really isn’t a lot between BB and CC creams. Short for Colour Correcting, CC creams aim to fight off dull complexions by reducing redness and increasing radiance. They work to fix skin problems like Rosacea, pigmentation and broken capillaries.
DD
Now DD creams are on the horizon. They are Daily Defence creams set to take the beauty industry by storm. However, they have moved on from the face, and to the rest of the body. Senior global beauty and personal care analyst, Vivienne Rudd, told cosmeticsdesign.com that these will be marketed as “very heavy duty body and foot creams”. They are said to be quite heavy in texture, likely for extra hydration.
Although their job may be tougher than BB creams, their coverage is similar and varies between brands. Some are lighter like Olay’s, but others are more opaque However, beauty brand Julep have released like Max Factor’s. For a medium coverage, the first DD cream and accompanying concealer. D o w n t o n ’ s ‘ D o w n To E a r t h ’ Essex Girl For an actress who has become a global star playing a wellto-do lady in one of the most successful period dramas of all time, it is surprising that Michelle Dockery lost out on previous roles due to her Essex accent. But that’s just what the Downton Abbey star claims...
22 | rmmagazine.co.uk
On one occasion, the Romford-born and bred star was auditioning for a production of The Sound of Music. Having made it into the third round, all was going well until she was asked to state her experience: “Well,” she said, “I’ve done lots of shows round Essex but I ain’t done nuffink up the West End.” And that was the end of that! Fortunately, this didn’t scupper Dockery’s chances entirely. After leaving school in Chadwell Heath, she went on to train at the local Finch Stage School. Following completion of her A Levels, she enrolled and graduated (in 2004) from the London Guildhall School of Music & Drama, where she won plaudits for her dramatic performances and got a taste for theatre work as a member of the National Youth Theatre.
While Dockery has continued to tread the boards, with roles including Ophelia in Hamlet at the Crucible and as Eliza Doolittle in Pygmalion at the Theatre Royal in Bath, her TV break came in 2005’s Fingersmith – a drama set in the Victorian era. With a clutch of alternative modern roles in The Red Riding Trilogy and Waking the Dead under her belt, Dockery consolidated her period drama credentials in the BBC’s Cranford Christmas special. And then along came the role that would change everything. As Lady Mary Crawley in ITV’s Downton Abbey, Dockery has enthralled viewers and critics far and wide. With its ever-expanding appeal, this breakout hit has been name-checked by scores of Hollywood stars, including Robert Downey Jr – and it’s featured in his latest Iron Man movie.

interview
Yes we’ve been known to have some fun, although it’s a completely different type of pressure when you’re doing impromptu jamming...
It’s a consistent ratings winner and ‘watercooler favourite’ in the UK, and easily the most successful UK costume drama of the last 30 years. To say it has captured the hearts and minds of viewers is an understatement. Awards include a Golden Globe for Best Miniseries or Television Film and a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Miniseries. “It has been an incredible ride,” she tells us. “I don’t think any of us could have expected the success it has had, but when you have a great cast, fantastic writers and the most gorgeous of settings... well, sometimes these things do all come together.” And playing the role of Lady Mary Crawley? “Well she is fascinating to portray. The complexion of the character – in life and in love – is what makes her so endearing and unpredictable. And that indecisiveness... that troubled persona, makes her hugely rewarding to play.” But it’s all such a long way from her Essex roots. How has the actress found the switch? “Well, in this game you have to be versatile. I come from a very working-class background, and if I was in Downton Abbey in real life I’d certainly have been in the servant quarters. Adapting to the role has been life adapting to any other. In fact, when the character you are playing is so radically different to your own persona, it can sometimes make the portrayal easier. You’re not being pushed into familiar habits because the character is so far outside of your usual reach.
At the end of the day, I’m just not posh!” she says. Away from the character, Dockery is certainly more down to earth, whilst retaining a firm sense of elegance and sophistication. A lesser known fact about the actress is that she is also a jazz singer who has sung several times at famous London jazz club Ronnie Scott’s – and not the only Downton cast member with musical chops. Elizabeth McGovern, who plays her mother in the show, fronts Sadie and the Hotheads. Dockery and McGovern have performed together and indeed admit to on-set jamming sessions. “Yes we’ve been known to have some fun, although it’s a completely different type of pressure when you’re doing impromptu jamming. It’s certainly a lot more pressure than it is playing Lady Crawley!” Although her years away from Essex (she now lives in London) and at drama school have softened her accent, Dockery still likes to return to her old stomping ground to see her parents and best friend, Simone, for a gossip. She also confesses to a liking for big hooped earrings – “my little bit of Essex bling!” The fourth series of Downton Abbey will hit UK screens in the autumn and the US in January 2014.

DIVAS Here come the Girls On Saturday 1st June Twickenham Stadium was alive with the sound of change. The 50,000 strong crowd gathered at the London venue, which was broadcast across six countries to around one billion people. This was big. This was Chime For Change: The Sound Of Change Live concert, which was based on the Chime For Change global campaign for girls’ and women’s empowerment. Founded by Gucci, with a founding committee that comprised of Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini, Salma Hayek Pinault and Beyonce Knowles-Carter it doesn’t really get much bigger.

nd you did read that right, Beyonce, the Queen B herself was headlining the event – the perfect face for female empowerment in a concert which was organised to benefit education, health and justice for women around the world. But she was by no means alone on the stage that put women’s rights firmly in the spotlight – joined by the powerful and inspiring Florence + the Machine, Ellie Goulding, Mary J Blige, Jessie J, Iggy Azalea, Jennifer Lopez and Rita Ora. Not to mention the American singer-songwriter, actress, author, director, entrepreneur, philanthropist and ultimate material girl, Madonna. She spoke to the crowd for 10 minutes and said: ‘I keep telling people I want to start a revolution, but my revolution doesn’t involve bloodshed and violence. My revolution starts with education. My revolution is about achieving a higher level of consciousness, but this cannot start without education.” The original Queen of Pop then continued: “We cannot change this world, nor begin to treat each other with human dignity, without an education. Let tonight be the beginning of this revolution because education is not a luxury, it is a basic human right. I invite you all to join my revolution of love. Join me tonight. The revolution of love starts here.”

But not only does Beyonce have a voice, she had the billions of viewers hanging on to her every word. Fans were furiously tweeting just trying to keep up – with one saying: “Beyonce is the Queen of empowerment for women! Independent women, Single Ladies, Who run the World, Survivor etc.” And it’s true, she certainly does appear to be a strong and inspiring woman. Could it be that we have a new diva on our hands? Finally! Now I don’t mean someone who throws a strop and demands flunkies to run outrageous errands. I’m saying that this inspiring concert may have just highlighted some necessary changes in our female role models. Ever since Aretha belted out the immortal words R.E.S.P.E.C.T, women have enjoyed feeling empowered, strong and independent – not objectified or demeaned. This was a lady that knew what she wanted, and knew exactly how to get it. This lady was truly a diva. But that was an unbelievable 46 years ago – isn’t it about time we found someone else to fill her stilettos? Or has her successor been here the whole time and we just haven’t been looking properly? After all, there are artists today that we wish were riveting, charismatic, strong and inspiring – but they just never quite manage. Then there are women who have managed all of this and more. These women can only be described as divas. And the best kept secret in the music industry is that divas are like fine wines that only get better with age. So far we have seen Madonna score her eighth Billboard chart-topping album and Jennifer Lopez soar up the iTunes chart with “Dance Again” to name but a few. But are these women as great as the greats? Well while it is true you can never replace Whitney, Aretha or Tina, there is still plenty of room left in the divas wall of fame.
28 | rmmagazine.co.uk
After all, a diva is a women who gets what she wants, when she wants it – so step forward Jennifer, Beyonce, Rita, Jessie and Rihanna, and about time too! These women have superior talent, so we listen to their songs that are both catchy and powerful. For too long the charts have been dominated by tasteless songs about women being objectified and not taken seriously, sparking a deep concern from parents who have desperately wanted positive role models so that their daughters can feel strong, and brave enough to follow in the path of education rather than just striving to be on somebody’s arm. Yes these women are beautiful and while they may dress provocatively, their heart is in the right place. Beyonce sings about how she would not put up with an unfaithful man and infamously encourages the institution of marriage in her song Single Ladies. Jessie J had the courage to mock men in her debut video, Do it Like a Dude, Rita Ora is famously outspoken while Rihanna proves you can be strong and sexy, regularly topping polls in FHM and GQ. Jennifer Lopez has always laughed off the rumours that her infamous derriere is insured for $1 billion, but there is really no doubt about her assets. As one of the most successful entrepreneurs of our time, she beat Oprah Winfrey as last year’s most powerful woman according to the exclusive Forbes Rich List – the figures do all of the talking for her. What better role model could you want? As well as dominating the news, you will be hard pushed to not see one of your idols over this summer’s festivals either. Beyonce delighted thousands when it was announced she would be headlining V Festival, and Rita is pretty much everywhere imaginable when festival season starts. Jennifer will also be headlining Heart FM’s Party In The Park. So what does make a diva? Well when you consider their performance, fashion, and overall influence all over the world, they are undoubtedly unrivalled. They have paved the way for future musicians and proved that they are timeless; they will be forever relevant and remain important to music fans of all ages. So there can be no doubt, Divas reign and long may they rule, inspiring young and old alike, creating positive role models to look up to and delivering the message that all women are to be respected, admired, and at times, feared. For we all know the power of a women is a force to be reckoned with.

All of the women who spoke were in front of a screen which displayed images of other strong and inspiring women, ranging from Rosa Parks to Princess Diana. Was it so successful because of the big names attached? Well if so, what is it that makes them so successful? Beyonce said at the concert: “‘Women’s rights, it’s something that has always been close to my heart. I know now, being a mother, it is really important that I can do what I can and use my voice. There are women around the world that don’t have a voice so we have to use our voices and raise awareness and be part of something where we can leave a legacy and help improve this world.”

What Makes A
Model Super? Supermodels are having a revival and our favourites from the 90s are still popping up on runways, editorials and campaign, doing any one job for over 20 years is pretty impressive, but when it’s a job like modelling, it is truly superhuman. So with a new generation of star models shining through, Ivana Sidey wondered what it is that makes a model so darn super?
“
What is more, these strong, beautiful women were also friends, forming the ultimate bond
entertainment Once upon a time, let’s call it the 90’s, six glamorous goddesses ruled the world and truly deserved the title of ‘supermodel.’ But today, it seems that every new face gets the “super-” prefix, but Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Claudia Schiffer, Stephanie Seymour, and Christy Turlington have successfully managed to carve out lives beyond fashion; so can anyone ever fill their stilettos? After all, the ‘six supers’ will be hard to imitate. They were strong, powerful women, dominating the market and even demanded their own fees for billboards, magazine covers, cosmetics and fragrance campaigns. It seemed like this exclusive clique would never end. They were a brand in their own right, dominating every inch of the UK and beyond, making millions. So while it’s undisputed that these girls were successful, were they supermodels? The term has been touted around for a while, with everyone from Twiggy, Jean Shrimpton, and the self-proclaimed Janice Dickinson trying to take the title. Naturally, looking beautiful helps, but the only models to truly earn the prefix and have a lasting career have that elusive X factor – whether it is infectious charisma, a head turning walk, birth mark or perfect body. They must also define an era, and Cindy, Naomi, Linda, Christy, Claudia and Helena epitomised the 90s. The calm that caused the perfect supermodel storm began when Cindy, Christy and Linda appeared in the music video of George Michael’s ‘Freedom.’ Versace then sent Naomi, Linda, Cindy and Christy down the runway blasting that very song with arms linked as they created a truly magical moment. That is part of the secret for transporting a model to superstar status – making them a part of popular culture so that they are impossible to ignore. What is more, these strong, beautiful women were also friends, forming the ultimate bond, and an ultimate force to be reckoned with. Together they were untouchable, personifying the decade with their big pay checks and even bigger hair. And we wanted more. We bought into the 80’s consumerism and wanted to know everything about them; we really wanted to know what Naomi did when she wasn’t throwing telephones! Here the similarities start with today’s Cara Delevingne and the tour de force she has formed with her ‘wifey’, singer Rita Ora. Alone she is a mere model, but together they are super. The former Asos model has skyrocketed as the face of Burberry in a mere 15 months. Could she be the new supermodel, filling the void we have desperately missed? Superstar best friend? Check. Trademark? The bushy eyebrows are a definite check. Impossibly beautiful? Check. So how much more can she achieve. But how much more can she achieve? Well, if you cast
“
Cara and Rita have turned up just as the 90s stars have begun to hang up their fashion crowns...
your mind back, it was only November when the 20 year old was crowned Model Of The Year at the British Fashion Awards. She has catapulted in popularity, and just about everywhere you looked you would have seen those trademark eyebrows staring back at you - or if you don’t recognise her eyebrows you might have noticed she is the face of Chanel and the body of Victoria’s Secret. If you attended any fashion show here or in NYC you would have seen Cara on the runway. Popped to the shops recently? No doubt you would have seen her in the newsstand on the cover of British Vogue and Miss Vogue too. And it’s not just the fashion world Cara has cast a spell on, it seems she has created an aura for herself, with her fan’s affectionately calling themselves ‘Cara’s Army’ labelling their loyalty in a way you would normally only see with a rock or pop star. It is hard to label her appeal but Alexandra Shulman, the editor of British Vogue has said: ‘Cara is one of those girls who combine energy, wit, enthusiasm and the kind of edgy beauty that marks her out from the general pool of beautiful models.’ The model has also received high praise from world renowned photographer, Mario Testino, who has compared her to a young Kate Moss – who you may remember was just starting out herself when the ‘supers’ ruled the world. You may also remember that Kate has done quite well since then, and for years, the fashion world has been trying to appoint a successor to Moss who, is now nearly 40 with a daughter and a husband – so is probably too happily settled to continue playing the party girl. Has the white smoke finally gone up? Like Moss, Cara has the impish air of the permanent truant and like the ‘supers’, the power of an equally strong woman by her side, ready to help her with world domination. Cara and Rita have turned up just as the 90s stars have begun to hang up their fashion crowns. But unlike her predecessor Moss, Cara is much less aloof. She has removed the mystery and is more than happy to conduct interviews or use her ever popular social media sites to let her hundreds of thousands of adoring fans feel like she is talking to them. Indeed social media has allowed you to feel close to your idols, especially when you use it as obsessively and Cara, tweeting an instagraming your every move – it is easy to feel like you know her as she gurns away and shock, horror, even eats food – virtually a first for a model. Karl Lagerfeld acutely explained how to be a successful model. He called the ‘supers’ goddesses of the silent screen, and he was right. They were womanly and proud, a contrast to the fickle industry and a new wave of vacant super skinny models. They were now approaching the beginning of the grunge period of the 90s, a place they no longer belonged. But ready to take the fashion baton was Kate Moss, and just like Cara she broke the mould. 31
“
For the moment she is untouchable, we expect her to be naughty and party hard
All of the women have done so well because they are still able to shock us – the biggest surprise being that only the elite shine through because of their brains – proving you can have brains and beauty. Remember when Linda airily told Vogue that she didn’t get out of bed for less than $10,000? Although it did not come across well, Evangelista made the valid observation that the power had shifted in the fashion realm, and it was now in the well-manicured hands of the models, and continues to shift.

Contemporary Hair Design For Men by
Adam & Gianni
After all, fashion is designed to change. Who is “in” and “out” is no longer decided by innocuous deal-makers. Nowadays we have the powerful force of social media. You will probably still never meet the face of Burberry or the cover star of Vogue in your life, but now with Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram to name a few, you feel like you know these people regardless of any physical interaction. The days of the aloof and unreachable star are over; which is probably why we find that after 25 years, Great Kate Moss is about to have her crown stolen by Queen Delevigne. The untouchable level of the supermodel’s celebrity has allowed them to get away with things which would have ruined any other career – dare I mention any drug scandals that could have ended in disaster? Or even when Linda cut her trademark long hair in 1988 – at first she was outcast by designers and magazines, but by the following year she had sparked a trend and was a role model for the average woman. And that is the key, you must be more than a face, you must represent the time and the personality of the decade. Back in the 90s the model’s buxom figures were on poster’s in every teenage boy’s room, while remaining a strong and independent role model for women. “We realise the power we have,” Christy told Time magazine in 1991. “We’re making tons and tons of money for these companies, and we know it.” Recently she said: “We were the glamazons. You couldn’t be too tall, the hair couldn’t be too big, and the boobs were pushed up and out.” So as Kate prepares to bow out gracefully, we eagerly await the next move from Queen Delevingne. For the moment she is untouchable, we expect her to be naughty and party hard – but how much bigger can she get? Well, I would say holding the world in the palm of your hand as you tweet your every move is pretty super. Maybe we do have a new Queen.

Women in Business Hopefully by now, many of you will have seen or heard the advertising relating to the Havering Business Awards 2013, and I wonder just how many of you think “oh no, that’s not for me”. Why not? Do you think that your company is too small because it only consists of you and your laptop? Are you working from home and think that eliminates you? If the answer is yes to any of the above, then let me tell you how wrong you are! I could spend my time giving you examples of micro businesses that have won or become finalists. I could even talk about Bombki, a one man band, working from home who not only won his category, ‘New Business of the Year’, but went on to win the prestigious ‘Business of the Year’ award also! But I don’t want to do that. What I want to do is tell you all the reasons why you SHOULD enter! Don’t be afraid of the judging process, our judges are from the very business community that you are part of. They want to see Havering businesses doing well, and will be judging you from a positive stance, so trust me on this one, they really are friendly souls. Winners receive a certificate and trophy, plus the accolade of being judged the best of the best in their field, followed by press and media recognition. Short listed companies are entitled to two free tickets for the Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony (worth £80 each) where approximately 400 people are expected to attend. he remarkable quality, efficiency and technological ingenuity at the heart of the Audi A3 can now be wrapped in a choice of three beautiful bodies. Say hello to the A3 Saloon range.
Priced from £24,275 OTR, the first ever ‘three-box‘ A3 complements the familiar three-door and five-door Sportback models, and leads the brand’s first foray into the world’s largest market segment – the compact saloon class. From the outside, short overhangs and sharply sculpted lines give the new A3 Saloon a distinctly purposeful stance. This is reinforced by its two-tier specification. A choice of either Sport or S line trim levels will be available in the UK, and at launch will be offered with a choice of three engines: a 1.4 petrol, a 1.8 petrol and a 2.0 diesel. The new compact four-door design doesn’t sacrifice space. It’s longer than the five-door A3 Sportback by just over 14 centimetres, wider by 11 millimetres and nine millimetres lower, offering ample passenger accommodation, perfect for a summer road trip. There is also 425 litres of luggage space (that’s enough for over 450 pairs of shoes we’ll have you know), with the rear seats in place - 45 litres more room than its five-door counterpart.

Other shared features include sports seats, the Audi drive select adaptive dynamics system, dual-zone climate control, preparation for SD card navigation, a Driver Information System and the Bluetooth mobile phone interface. As for the all-important music features, they both have a MMI radio incorporating an 11 millimetre-thick powered folding screen, DAB digital radio, and an Audi Music Interface iPod connection. Luxury is also woven into the interiors, with the S line specification including part-leather-upholstery embossed with the S line logo and an S line sports steering wheel with perforated leather grips and shift paddles where S tronic is fitted. Outside, 18-inch alloy wheels, S line body styling and xenon plus headlights with LED daytime running lamps set the top model apart. Full-LED headlights will also be available later in 2013 as an alternative to the xenon units in S line models and the halogen units in Sport versions. S line customers can also swap their sports suspension not only for the comfort-focused standard configuration, but also for an exclusive S line sports set-up, which lowers the ride height by a further 10mm below the sports suspension for even greater handling. For more info visit www.rmmagazine.co.uk or your nearest Audi dealer.
The range’s Sport and S line versions sit low on their respective 17-inch and 18inch alloy wheels thanks to sports suspension, but both can also be specified to the Saloon at no extra cost with more comfort-oriented suspension. 35
