The Pop-Up Pool is a temporary construction, so Davis Brody Bond and partner firm Spacesmith were required to limit the site impact and use as many of the existing features as possible - in this case the foundations and slabs from demolished buildings, for a truly sustainable project.

A wall of brightly-painted repurposed shipping containers acts as a buffer from the nearby traffic noise and is also an eye-catching visual. The pool even has its own 232 square metres of sandy beach, and offers all the usual amenities of traditional community pools, including lounge chairs, umbrellas, restrooms, showers, refreshments and picnic area.

The Pop-Up Pool by Davis Brody Bond is an architectural project designed for the city and its residents; on 27 June it will be opening again for the 2015 summer season. This low environmental impact design solution is great value for the local community, giving locals and visitors - the opportunity to get away and relax right in the centre of the city.
