Steve Bird is Head of Print Production of the Financial Times’ special reports and Head of the FT Group's National Union of Journalists (NUJ) chapel. He has been at the FT since 1996 and also spent three years as Chief Sub-Editor at its New York office. Jodie Jackson is a researcher for the Constructive Journalism Project. She is currently completing a Master's degree in Applied Positive Psychology. Her research has been focused on the psychological impact of news on the reader and most notably the role of positive news/ constructive journalism and its perceived effects. Constructive journalism is becoming an important approach to reporting - this talk will look at what constructive journalism is, what it is not, why it is important, what the psychological and sociological effects of this kind of reporting are, who is doing it already and how.
