ART + NATURE = SPARHAWK SUMMER PROGRAM The Sparhawk Summer Program is the perfect experiential mix and balance of art and nature. We have created an exciting, hands-on, messy and creative curriculum for children ages 5-10. Led in small groups by our expert staff, our students will build, create, explore, dissect, discover, and immerse themselves in the vast world of art and nature. It’s a beautiful world out there, let’s get out and explore it!

July 10-14, 2017 - Adventures in Story Land ! Explore the worlds of some of your favorite literary characters. Participate in wizardry lessons at Hogwarts, have a chat with the Cheshire Cat in Wonderland and compete in the Olympiad games with Percy Jackson. !

July 17th-21st - Around the World in 80 5 Days ! Pack your bags and walking shoes because we’re taking a whirlwind trip around the globe. We will be visiting five different countries from five different continents and exploring their cultures through art, music, food, and dance. Make Maasi necklaces, learn Maori hand games, play Chamusca street soccer and create Tlingit totem poles.!

July 24-28, 2017 - Life’s a Circus!! Have you ever wanted to learn how to juggle or walk on stilts? Spend a week at the Sparhawk Circus and learn how to put on a show in the Big Top! Activities will include: Carnival games, balloon painting, stilt walking, magic tricks, juggling, carnival foods and of course a whole lot of clowning around.!
Participation in the arts inspires creativity, fosters the development of problemsolving, critical-thinking, and literacy skills, and builds self esteem and character. Our approach to art creation is experiential with both guided instruction and student led exploration.

SUMMER PROGRAM SESSIONS CONTINUED July 31-August 4, 2017 - Survival Week! Have you ever wondered how to find north without using a compass? Have you ever built a fire without using matches or a fire starter? Learn the basics of wilderness survival and orienteering. Activities will include: Shelter building, animal tracking, outdoor survival skill games, fire making and water collection and learning how to survive in the woods.!

August 7-11, 2017 - Under the Sea! Join our underwater adventure through the oceanic ecosystem and discover the amazing creatures that inhabit it. Explore tide pool science, make your own beach sand, bend and flow with sea themed yoga, and become sea creatures through a variety of art projects.!

August 14-18, 2017 Up, Up, In the Air!! Become more weather-wise! How do storms form? Why can’t we be certain of tomorrow’s weather? Learn the answers to these questions and more by becoming a junior meteorologist. Kids learn and research what the weather will be for the week and act out, present, and film themselves talking about the weather. We will create hurricane and tornado experiments, make windsocks, paint with rain and set-up our very own weather station.!

The Sparhawk School campus is a resource rich and vibrant environment. Students will explore, invent, build and create using the natural resources available on our grounds and within the outlying community.

ART + NATURE | IMPORTANT INFO & DATES SUMMER PROGRAM VISION! We wanted to create a summer program that felt like a natural extension of Sparhawk School. At the ! ART + NATURE Summer Program, students will ponder, explore, build & create. Learning adventures will take place on the beautiful grounds and in classrooms at both our Lower and Upper School locations as well as in the natural classrooms in nearby communities.!

ART + NATURE TEAM! The ART + NATURE team is comprised of current Sparhawk staff and alumni as well as local community specialists with diverse backgrounds in the arts & education. Our team consists of fun loving, kind and experienced staff members who are passionate about art, nature, science and learning. !

DEADLINES! Advanced registration is required. The deadline for registration, payments & waivers is May 19th, 2017. Registration may be available after this date, please contact the ART + NATURE program for availability. All payments and waivers must be received prior to participation. !

ATTENDEE EXPECTATIONS! The ART + NATURE Summer Program is experiential by design, so the children will be outdoors much of each day- rain or shine. Children should come dressed for variable weather and for art activities, both of which can be engagingly messy. We will explore ponds and streams, and traverse the undulating terrains of our woodlands and fields. If you have any questions regarding the ability of your child to fully participate in our activities, please contact the Summer Program Director at summer@sparhawkschool.com prior to registration.!

REFUND POLICY! The one time $30 registration fee as well as the $50 deposit per session are non-refundable. Theses fees can not be transferred to another program, attendee or friend. Please plan your summer sessions carefully as there are no refunds given for participant dismissal, absence, sickness or failure to attend the session. If for some reason a camp session is cancelled you will receive a full refund. Should you need to cancel a session on or before May 19th, you will receive a refund of all except the deposit and registration fees. If you cancel after May 19th, there is no refund.!
REGISTRATION & PAYMENT! Registration, payment & waivers are available in one easy to use online portal. Students must be the required age upon the first day of the summer program. The price per session is $325. Upon registration a $50 deposit and one time $30 registration are required, non-refundable & nontransferrable. Payments may be made in full or you may choose a payment plan. Families with 3+ children are encouraged to request information on our multi-child discount.!
