WINTERIM MASTER CLASS

PROGRAM OVERVIEW Winterim Master Class is a four-week intensive winter term that provides students with additional opportunities for deep, authentic experiential learning. Students choose a class or internship, in an area of their personal interest, then delve deeply into their topic of choice, refining their individual skills and understanding. To enhance the student’s learning, each course offers either a local, regional, or international travel experience. Students will be putting in the same number of hours as a typical semester, but with the intense focus on one subject area, as such they receive academic credit in the domain they are studying.
EXPERIENCE: ITALIAN ART HISTORY & SCULPTURE Four weeks of intensive study in the history of Italian art, while developing your skills as a sculptor. Travel to Italy, immerse yourself in Italian culture, language and art.
DISCOVERY Students explore their capabilities, redefine their perceptions and global knowledge and challenge themselves to grow in ways they may have never thought possible. Through immersive experiences locally and abroad, students discover what this world has to offer and consider their ever changing role in its evolution.
COLLABORATION Learning to collaborate on projects is an essential skill for the 21st century. Students in grades 8-12 will not only form collaborative work groups, they will also work together planning their travel experience, participating in Socratic Seminars, experiments, art projects, play productions, and service projects. Skills such as active listening, relationship building, and developing trust are critical to a successful collaboration. Our program is designed to foster these skills over time, creating life-long relationship habits that will serve our students for years to come.

EXPLORATION & EXPERIENCE Winterim participants are guided in the development of important leadership and team-building concepts. They examine their personal comfort zones and are provided opportunities that extend their preconceived human boundaries. Each excursion is supported by our expert staff, who help students navigate paradigm-shifting conversations, that lead to realizations at increasingly higher conceptual realms.
EXPERIENCE: STREET ART & SOCIAL JUSTICE Study the history of street art and how artists have transformed urban environments and provoked thought. Travel to Philadelphia to explore hundreds of murals created by the Mural Arts Program.
EXPERIENCE: LANGUAGE IMMERSION & ADVENTURE IN COSTA RICA Immerse yourself in the Spanish language. Find yourself trekking through the Cloudforest of Monteverde. Teach English in a local village school near La Fortuna.
