Gerhard Steyn kom kuier in die woestyn!!!!
W
Nestled in a lush green forest, Galagos will most certainly add magic and wonder to your special day! Whether it’s indoors or outdoors or whether for just the couple or for a group of family and friends, Galagos wedding options are as unlimited as your imagination.
They offer a very unique chapel that gives you the feeling of being elevated in the trees And there reception hall is stunning. They deserve to be seen—go have a look when you visit South Africa (home)….

Interview >>
Sthu Zungu
Questions from Yebo Magazine Email Interview with Ella Rabe 2009 What is your title here in the USA?
President, South African Tourism, North America — I have been based here in New York just under two years now. Prior to joining the team here I served as SAT’s Country Manager for Italy, for four years.
This is such a great position to have and a wonderful opportunity to represent South Africa, what are your main goals, what would you like to achieve while you are here?
I consider it an honor to represent South Africa and I am grateful for the opportunity we have here to make a difference by growing tourism to South Africa. At SAT, we recognize that tourism is central to SA’s economic growth and to creating opportunities for promoting transformation. The potential for the US market is immense having recently overtaken Germany to become the second largest source market for international visitors. My goal is to develop programs which change the way Americans perceive our country and programs that actually drive travel to SA. Despite the challenging economic times in which we all find ourselves, I do believe that we can achieve the goals we have set.
Tell us a bit about your background; where did you grow up and go to school?
I was born and raised in a small town called Nongoma in KwaZulu-Natal. My family later moved to another small town Mtubatuba, where they currently reside. I attended local schools for my primary education and later went to a Catholic school called Impumelelo High to complete secondary education.
What did you study?
After graduating High School I went on to Gauteng where I enrolled for a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. I completed my undergraduate studies and later received a Master of Commerce degree in marketing in the year 2000. In 1996 I was hired by BMW South Africa as a Market Analyst fresh out of college. While at
4
BMW I was promoted to various positions and finally became Brand Communications Manager, overseeing the launch of the MINI in South Africa. Along the way in 2001 while at BMW, I received a scholarship to study and work in Germany at BMW Headquarters in Munich pursuing a diploma in Advanced International Marketing.
Who were your mentors?... and why are they mentors?
I have had several mentors along the way but my parents of course have been my number one mentors. They are simple but very wise people and they have invested all they have into my wellbeing. When I got to university I met a great marketer and professor who became a mentor of mine, Prof. Roger Sinclair. He is the man who inspired me as a young student at Wits to follow marketing and he later supervised the thesis for my Masters. He is an authority on brands, brand building and brand evaluation methodologies and I appreciate his sharp mind. Later, while working at BMW, I worked for a great manager named Conrad Schmidt who mentored and taught me an incredible work ethic. He was an engineer turned strategist and he is one of the best strategic minds I know - a near perfectionist who missed no detail while being effective in everything he did. There are obviously many other people who play a mentorship role to me from time to time.
In the time that you have been here in the USA were you surprised to see so many South African expats? I actually knew before I got here that there were a lot of South African expats here in the US, as well as in Canada, and I am very pleased with the warm reception I have received.
Would you agree that SA expats have a great love of South Africa and enjoy getting together to celebrate our wonderful country..or is your experience different?
Our SA expats are great. They can be our very best advocates for the destination, and a wonderful source of positive information for our potential visitors. Their love for the country and their own South African stories really do resonate as we speak about what makes South Africa such a compelling destination.
After this term is over, would you like to remain here in the USA, go to another country

Ella Rabe and Sthu Zungu South African Tourism President, North America
To tell the truth, I have not yet addressed that chapter, I am totally focused on the job at hand. Certainly if SAT offered to extend my contract I would give it very careful consideration, as it would obviously mean I am doing a great job!
How long is your appointment for? I am on a three year contract.
The recent Mandela celebrations in New York were a great success. What were your experiences? I thought the concert was truly fantastic, the staging, the production, the bringing together of all these amazing performers from all corners of the globe, this really said so much about Madiba’s extraordinary and compelling story. He is the catalyst that brought all of us together, and I thought it was a wonderful tribute to him.
Please tell us what your thoughts are on 2010, and what it will mean for South Africa.
For us, the big number is the 26 billion viewers who will tune in to watch the matches, taking place in 9 cities, 10 stadiums, in eight of our nine provinces. It represents a unique platform for us to showcase our destination, reintroduce South Africa to the world, and to reposition South Africa as a major player on the global stage. Tourism will be perhaps the greatest beneficiary of the World Cup, in terms of the new and expanded tourism product, the phenomenal improvements in our infrastructure - transportation, telecommunications, power, security - all of which will remain in place long after the month-long tournament is over. And most importantly it gives us a huge base of new arrivals on which to build business for the future. We are confident that we will indeed host the world’s greatest party, and the most successful World Cup to date. Y www.YEBOmagazine.com

People always say, it’s not the Randfontein Show if it doesn’t rain. This year, not only did it rain, but there were two flash floods in the space of four hours and while some (young and old) frolicked in the mud and water afterwards, exhibitors and show organisers did not have big smiles on their faces. The flooding did a lot of damage to exhibitor stalls and stock and severely affected attendance on Friday evening, usually the most popular time of the show.

The 2010 Randfontein Show took place at the Greenhills Sport Stadium in Randfontein, Gauteng, South Africa from 3 to 6 March.
The show is rated as “Die Lekkerste Kuierskou” by the media (and many of its exhibitors and visitors) and is a real family affair. What with a special KidZone, electronic GameZone, pony rides, beer gardens, funfair, a wine and oyster tent, entertainment by some of the country’s top artists and loads of quality stalls, visitors were spoilt for choice.
◄ Kaalvoet in die reen
Fortunately the sun shone the whole of Saturday, but there was still plenty of mud around. Thousands of people flocked to the sport stadium and it was great to see so many young families enjoying themselves. The new “Kuierskuur” hosted by the Randfontein Rugby Club held “Boereorkes Kompetisie” and it was a big hit with visitors. Later comedian Wicus van der Merwe had the audience rolling in the isles with his wicked sense of humour. The Randfontein Show is the fourth largest of its kind in the country and next year it will celebrate its 25th birthday. Not bad achievement for a small, West Rand “dorpie”. Y

Rooibos Tea >>
Health
by Infusion By Roy Watts
Y
ou are what you eat (and drink). That popular slogan from a few years back has never been more relevant, and we know that there are certain foods that encourage a wide range of diseases affecting every organ of the body, and many of its mechanisms like the immune system. The logical reverse assumption therefore must be that there are some that can actually overturn the ill effects of bad living. The realization of this has encouraged many doctors and scientists to add natural medicine and preventative measures to their arsenal of knowledge. Ironically simple tribesman living in the glorious biodiversity of the African plains, were a couple of centuries ahead of them in the field of herbal remedies. In South Africa there is a unique indigenous kingdom supporting a range of plants that are not found anywhere else on Earth, and collectively known as fynbos. This is in a small area in the southernmost tip of the country known as ’The Cape’ where the locals enjoy a wide variety of remedial benefits extracted from Nature’s Pharmacy. One of the most prominent of these is a wild ’red bush’ with needle like leaves that produce a most delicious tea. This has been translated into the Afrikaans name of Rooibos, and has some remarkable healing properties. Inevitably it came to the attention of the scientific world,
resulting in extensive research—most notably Stellenbosch University amongst many other international institutions. The positive results of these scientific surveys are freely available on the net. Sitting at the confluence of proven science and alternative medicine is a unique product called Suffuse Rooibos Tea that has taken the proven benefits of the plant and extended them by the infusion of other herbal extracts. This has not only increased the efficacy and range of the Rooibos health advantages, but has created an exciting array of truly delicious flavors as well. With American tastes swinging towards tea drinking, this introduces a health dimension to a wonderful beverage. Dr George Allibone is a South African ex-pat Radiologist who developed one of the largest imaging centers in Houston Texas before selling his very successful practice. He was also one of the burgeoning school of conventional health practitioners who embraced alternative medicine. He really liked Rooibos Tea, and was well aware of its great medicinal value. On a visit to Cape Town in 2008 he tasted a blend that was quite exquisite and better than anything he had tried before. Believing that this could be the product through which he could introduce the herbal
tea experience to a world wide audience, he tracked down its source which was a farmer in Picketberg. Working in concert with him and a team of pharmacists he set about infusing the product with other powerful health giving indigenous plants from the Cape’s bounteous floral kingdom. Most notable of these were Buchu, Hoodia, Sceletium and Sutherlandia. Buchu is one of the most widely used natural remedies in South Africa and is very effective in the treatment of stomach ailments, rheumatism, gout, and kidney problems along with associated urinary tract infections. Hoodia’s chemical constituents operate within the satiety senses making it an excellent appetite suppressant, whilst Sceletium works well in alleviating anxiety. This it does when its alkaloid components interact with the brain’s dopamine and serotonin receptor’s thereby inducing mood elevation. And Sutherlandia is a powerful traditional herbal remedy that assists the body to cope with diverse physical and mental stresses consequently boosting the immune system. Best of all Rooibos products are low on tannin and completely caffeine free. There are many health advantages to be gained from developing the ’Suffuse’ habit, but the best reason to enjoy it remains its wonderful taste. Y
