Central University of Gujarat (CUG) is one among the several new Central Universities started from the academic year 2009. A new permanent campus is to be established on 100 acres of land near village Kundhela, Taluka Dabhoi, District Vadodara. Master plan integrates the Built Environment, Landscape Planning and Space Design to create a vibrant campus.
BUILT MASS EVOLUTION The Master Plan of the campus is to be developed to address the needs of 2500 students in the first instance and depending on its requirements; subsequent phase may comprise 4000 students in about 15-20 years. Integration of Living, learning and recreational space is an important feature of the campus plan.

MAJOR ACTIVITY ZONE/ INTERACTIVE SPACES IN THE FORM OF GREENS
OBJECTIVE/APPROACH Integration of Living, learning and recreational space is an important feature of the campus plan. Focusing on the holistic development of the students by bridging the gap between living, learning and recreation. the university seeks to create a paradigm that is rooted in the Indian context while being a part of a global dialogue.

LEGIBLE CAMPUS
PASSIVE COOLING STRATEGIES The academic buildings are designed with corridors and passages with interlinking Courtyards and Gardens. Taking advantage of these natural flows, they help moderate the internal climates by producing an air flow – Due to incident solar radiation, the warm air rises and the cool air flows through the openings.
SUSTAINABLE CAMPUS
TYPICAL SECTION OF ACADEMIC BUILDINGS ⚫PILOTIS INCORPORATION INTO THE DESIGN ENCOURAGES MOVEMENT OF WIND THROUGH THE ADMIN AND ACADEMIC BLOCKS AND ALSO PROVIDES FOR A WELL SHADED PROMINENT ENTRANCE.
Key difference between a Confined Masonry Building and RCC construction is the sequence of construction.
CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUE Gujarat is an earthquake prone state hence Confined masonry is the best technique that should be followed for construction. Confined Masonry is a construction system where the walls are built first, and the columns and beams are poured in afterwards to enclose (confine) the wall. The walls are tied down to the foundation.
Shaking along thickness direction of masonry wall can result in collapse
CONFINED MASONRY - Walls first - Concerete later
RCC CONSTRUCTION - Concerete first - Walls later
Shaking along length direction of masonry wall results in diagonal cracking
