LOWCOUNTRY INSPIRATION DAUFUSKIE ISLAND has been the source of inspiration for Spartina 449 since our company’s beginnings. From its towering ancient oaks to the calm waters of the Calibogue Sound, this unspoiled sea island continues to captivate and enchant us. Our company name comes from the native marsh grass that graces the shores of this small island and protects its pristine beaches, and our product colors and designs are informed by the island’s unsurpassed beauty.
Located between Hilton Head and Savannah, Daufuskie is accessible only by passenger ferry or boat, and a visit to the bridgeless island is like a step back in time. Playful dolphins perform daily shows while lucky beachcombers delight in the discovery of sand dollars and starfish. Shards of ancient Native American pottery and broken pieces of china from Civil War plantations hint at the island’s intriguing history and rich cultural heritage while campfire stories abound with tales of island mermaids and mysterious lighthouse keepers. It is our hope that our products will not only enrich your wardrobe, but that the island that inspires them will also evoke your imagination.
