He started initially in Telecommunications, installing and commissioning Automatic Telephone Exchanges across the UK, and Northern Africa. After spending some time on the design modifications team for System-X, the first truly digital exchange he moved into Data Networking, working firstly in Academia with University of Glasgow and the Joint Academic Network (Janet) team, then latterly as director of a small London based consultancy company working with organisations such as Dun and Bradstreet, Hertz Car Rental (Europe), US Sprint International, Federal Express, Citibank and Nomura Research plc. In the early 1990’s he joined Rank Xerox as part of their Data Centre team moving into Design and Management and since then have designed Data Centres for the Scottish National Health Service, ScoLocate Ltd, Lumison Ltd, Pulsant Ltd, Scotland Online amongst others. He currently the Managing Director of Kirlaur Ltd, a small independent Data Centre Consultancy advising on Design, Build, Best Practise, Efficiency Engineering and Management of the Data Centre
