I

n the course of the XXII Olympic Winter Games and XI Paralympic Winter Games from 7 February to 16 March 2014 the Sochi Olympic Park hosted exposition of the Russian Federation regions. The exposition featured a grand exhibition made of eight parts, i.e. federal districts of the country, each of which was designed in a unique style. The project was mainly aimed at demonstration of the creative diversity and tourist appeal of our country in the international arena. The exposition made it possible to make a virtual journey across the entire country, to see the performance of the professional entertainers on the big stage and to take part in workshops. The exposition of the Northwestern Federal District featured the following regions: Republic of Karelia, Republic of Komi, Arkhangelsk Region, Kaliningrad Region, Murmansk Region, Novgorod Region, Leningrad Region, Nenets Autonomous Area, city of Federal importance Saint Petersburg. The exposition demonstrated availability of the well-developed tourist infrastructure of the region, its readiness to receive Russian and foreign tourists. Equally important task was to create an atmosphere of the traditional Russian hospitality.


The exposition of Northwestern Federal District’s Regions in Olympic Park was demonstrating to the participants and guests of Olympics and Paralympic Games the unity of the Great country, wealth and variety of landscapes, uniqueness and color of the culture of peoples of Northwest


Guests of Olympic and Paralympic Games in Sochi could receive informational materials on Saint Petersburg as well as souvenirs

The Governor of Saint Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko told the press about the construction of new sports facilities in the city, about the preparations for the World Cup in 2018, about the support of youth sports and healthy lifestyle in the northern capital

Nana Gvichiya is executive director of "The City Tourist Information Bureau," which organized work of the Saint Petersburg’s stand at the exposition of Northwestern Regions. Saint-Petersburg was demonstrating to all the visitors the production of Lomonosov Porcelain Factory: saucers, cups and plates with the symbols of the city and its suburbs


The performance of the Nenets youth ensemble of folk singing and dancing “Hayar”. The name of the ensemble translates into Russian like “sun”


Saint Petersburg is friendly to everyone. Museums and theatres of Saint-Petersburg can receive tourists with limited mobility. Guests and participants of Paralympic Games can also get some information on routes and programs of barrier-free environment
