Our tour offers a fascinating flavour of the city’s past, from Prussian Palaces and incredible museums, to the remarkable home of Luther and the German reformation, Wittenberg. Our expert Local Guide will navigate you around the most famous sites of Berlin, as well as some that are known only to locals. Day One In the early evening we walk around the heart of Prussian Berlin, as well as the Memorial at Bebelplatz, commemorating the 22,000 books that were burned by the Nazis in 1933. Day Two We spend the morning at Museum Island, where we explore innumerable treasures, including the reconstruction of the Ishtar Gate, the Babylonian Processional Way at the Pergamon Museum, and the famous bust of Nefertiti at the Neues Museum. The afternoon is free to explore the city further or tour its museums.

Day Three We spend the day in Potsdam where we visit Sanssouci, Frederick the Great’s Rococo summer palace, famed for its park and waterworks. Next, we venture to Cecilienhof, the Hohenzollern royal palace, which was the site of the Postsdam conference at the end of WW2.

Venice’s maritime republic produced some of the most famous works of art and architecture in the world. On this concise trip, we offer you a connoisseur’s tour of Venice, taking in the city’s most evocative locations and churches, as well as paying visits to little-known gems that offer an authentic flavour of the real Venice. Day One We check in to our hotel and then enjoy a walking tour of Piazza San Marco. Day Two Our day starts with an in-depth visit to the Doge’s Palace, including the Secret Itineraries and the Bridge of Sighs. We continue with a visit to the staggering Basilica of San Marco, including the Pala D’Oro and the museum. Day Three We venture to the little-known and fascinating Casino Venier, as well as to the Fondaco dei Tedeschi. Next we explore the Rialto, before taking in the Basilicas of the Frari and Giovanni e Paolo. Finally, we end our day with a

visit to the exquisite Church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli. Day Four Exploring Canareggio, we visit the Church of Madonna dell’Orto and have a break at the famous café, Al Timon Bragozzo. We continue to the infamous Ghetto before ending our morning at the stunning Ca D’Oro. Enjoy some free time in the city this afternoon, perhaps choose to visit the Accademia or the Guggenheim collection. Day Five Not far from St. Mark’s – and off the beaten track – we visit the Chiesa di San Giorgio dei Greci and the Icon Museum, as well

as Vivaldi’s Church of San Giovanni in Bragora. Look out for the remnants of the Chiesa della Pietà, where he taught orphan girls. We end the day and our tour with a visit to the Arsenale, Venice’s boatyard.

It is not an exaggeration to say that Florence both gave rise to and defines the Renaissance. Immerse yourself in the city’s Renaissance masterpieces, including the Baptistery and the Medici Chapel, and enjoy visits to its wonderful museums, including the Pitti and Uffizi, with an expert local art historian. Day One Leaving the hotel in the early evening, our guide takes us on an orientation walk to see some of the city’s famous monuments. Day Two We start with the Medici Chapel, famed for the Medici tombs produced by Michelangelo. We continue to the Galleria dell’Accademia, the highlight of which is Michelangelo’s ‘David’. After taking in the Loggia della Signoria, we end the day at the erstwhile Medicean chapel, Santa Croce, which is home to innumerable works of art, including frescoes by Giotto.

Day Three This morning we visit the Palazzo Vecchio, one of Florence’s landmarks, which bears extraordinary testimonies of all the salient phases of the history and art of Florence and is famed for its Hall of the 500. After lunch, we visit the staggering Uffizi Gallery, which houses such masterpieces as Botticelli’s ‘Birth of Venus’ and Raphael’s ‘Madonna of the Goldfinch’.

Later, we visit Santa Maria Novella, home to Giotto’s spectacular ‘Crucifix’. Day Five We spend the morning exploring the Baptistery, an octagonal masterpiece that is one of the city’s oldest standing buildings, as well as the Museum of the Cathedral. Our tour ends in the afternoon.

On this tour, you will not only visit Rome’s iconic monuments, such as the Vatican, Colosseum and Pantheon, but explore gems unknown even to most locals, such as ancient ruins hidden under the Papal Basilicas. You will also visit the Catacombs of Saint Sebastian and get to walk down the Appian Way. Day One In the early evening, our guide takes us on a tour of the Campus Martius, including the Pantheon, Temple of Hadrian and Piazza Navona. Day Two We start at the Colosseum and enjoy its interiors, which once held 50,000 spectators, before seeing the Arch of Constantine. In the afternoon, we will visit the imperial palaces on the Palatine as well as the magnificent Roman Forum and Imperial Fora. Day Three We start with a private visit to the little-known Porta Asinaria, an imposing 3rd century gateway, complete

with massive ballista towers and guardrooms. Next, we continue to the excavations under the Papal Basilica of St. John Lateran. A short walk takes us to the Porta Maggiore, for the important remains of two aqueducts and the wonderful Tomb of Eurysaces the baker. We end the day with a visit to another Papal Basilica, Santa Maria Maggiore, and its excavations.

The Vesuvian towns offer a unique glimpse into everyday life in Roman cities. Join our specially chosen Local Guide, who has worked with Andante for many years, on a tour that will allow you to explore these unique sites in depth. There has never been a better time to visit Pompeii and Herculaneum, as ongoing discoveries and sites that are newly opened await. Day One After settling into our hotel, our group comes together in the evening to meet the Local Guide. Time permitting, we will walk through modern Pompeii. Day Two A full day among the ruins of ancient Pompeii awaits. Beginning at the town’s amphitheatre, we take in a range of sights, including bars, brothels and public squares that were preserved under ashes and lapilli. Day Four Visit Herculaneum, once an upmarket coastal city buried beneath 23 metres of volcanic material, which hermetically sealed the site. Here, quite unlike Pompeii, even fragile items such as wood partitions, beds and shutters have been perfectly preserved. You can almost feel the presence of the ancient inhabitants and the horror they went through on that fateful day.

This is an odyssey through some of the great sites of ancient Greece, from the Acropolis to Mycenae, where we trace the story of Greece from the Bronze Age to classical glory. Explore the birthplace of western civilisation, visiting many important sites in Greek history, including four with UNESCO World Heritage status. Day One We check in to our hotel and then take an orientation walk around Plaka. Day Two We spend the day on foot in ancient Athens, climbing to the Acropolis to visit the Parthenon. The afternoon is devoted to the fabulous Acropolis Museum, consistently rated as one of the best in the world. Day Three We start our journey into the Peloponnese, stopping first to explore Corinth, one of the greatest cities of classical Greece. We then continue to Tiryns, a major Mycenean citadel and reputedly the birthplace of Hercules.

Day Four First, we explore Mycenae, centre of the Late Bronze Age and, according to legend, the capital of King Agamemnon. Later, we visit the Argive Heraion, an evocative site where the sanctuary of Hera was built on three gigantic terraces, carved into the hillside.

Day Six Today we visit Epidaurus, a celebrated centre of healing in the ancient world. Perched on the slopes of a hill, the town has some of the finest examples of 14th and 15th century architecture in Greece. We continue to Athens airport for our flights home.

Starting with the beautiful, tiny island of Santorini and continuing in Crete, our archaeological journey is in part a quest to understand the people we know as the Minoans and to appreciate the cultures that replaced theirs, but also to enjoy the food, wine and dramatic landscapes of these beautiful Aegean islands. Day One We settle in to our centrally located hotel in Heraklion. Day Two Our first full day is spent on Santorini. We visit the fabulous site of Akrotiri, buried suddenly during the cataclysmic eruption of Thera. The city is reminiscent of Pompeii, with houses preserved up to three storeys high. Its structures, drainage systems and wall paintings indicate a once prosperous society with wide ranging foreign trade links. Day Three After an orientation walk of the area, we visit Heraklion Archaeological

Museum where we see important finds from the island, including the Phaistos Disc and Minoan frescoes. The afternoon is at leisure. Day Four Today we visit the magnificent palace complex of Phaistos and, in contrast, Vathypetro, a Minoan country house where we will see an elaborate local shrine and wonderfully preserved wine press. Our afternoon is devoted to the world renowned Palace of Knossos, a majestic complex erected in Greece’s Bronze Age. Day Five This morning we explore the royal quarters of

the third largest Minoan Palace complex, Malia. Later we visit Gournia, walking through the cobbled streets among the ruins of houses and its palace. In the afternoon, we continue to Agios Nikolaos on the shores of Mirabello Bay before going back to Heraklion. Day Six We return home today.

Join this tour to discover the rich history and archaeology of the lovely island of Rhodes. You will explore Greek temples and theatres alongside medieval castles and delightful modern villages. Immerse yourself in the stories and beauty of an island ruled by Greeks, Crusaders, Ottomans and Italians, among the florid blend of architecture it also offers. Day One Enjoy free time at our hotel upon arrival. Day Two We start our day with a visit to Kamiros, a well-preserved Hellenistic city blessed with spectacular views, which was destroyed by a devastating earthquake in AD 142. This afternoon, we head to the Acropolis of Ialyssos to admire the Temple to Athena Polias, along with the medieval monastery of Filerimos. Day Three Today we visit Lindos, which is dominated by its dramatic Acropolis. Here, we visit the Temple of Athena Lindia, the Hellenistic walls and the stunning Propylaea.

In the afternoon, we have free time to explore the picturesque modern village of Lindos. Day Four Rhodes was occupied by the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem for two centuries before the Ottoman conquest. Today we will visit the Jewish quarter and the Kahal Shalom Synagogue, once a thriving part of the city and now a reminder of recent tragedies. Later, we explore the medieval monuments that have given the city UNESCO World Heritage status, including the Palace of the Grand Master and a plethora of churches.

Day Five This morning, we visit Rhodes’ Acropolis, dominated by the Temple of Athena Polias, and the impressive remains of an odeon and a stadium. Next, we visit Rhodes’ Archaeological Museum, housed in the splendid Knights’ Hospital. Day Six After breakfast, we make our way home.

visit the remains of the ancient agora of Smyrna, which was destroyed by an earthquake in 178 AD, but later rebuilt by the order of the Roman Emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Day Five Ephesus awaits today, without doubt one of the finest ancient Greek sites and famed for its Temple to Artemis. The on-site theatre and Curetes Street, a long street that ends at the library of Celsus, make this site truly exceptional. Day Six We return home today.

Istanbul is truly a transcontinental city, its European and Asian elements fusing with remarkable results. Following many incarnations – as the Greek colony, Byzantium; the eastern capital of the Roman Empire, Constantinople; and Der Sadet, the Ottoman “gate to prosperity” – the city now boasts unusual and stunning architectural blends. Day One Upon our arrival in Istanbul, we are met by our expert Local Guide. Day Two Our discoveries begin with a visit to the late Roman Hippodrome, and from here we enjoy a short walk to the 6th century Basilica Cistern. After the inimitable Hagia Sophia, we visit two nearby museums – the Mosaic Museum with its in situ Byzantine mosaics, and the fantastic Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts. Day Three We walk to Süleymaniye Mosque and then to the spice market – a highly sensory experience – before reaching the regenerated

Golden Horn waterfront area. Later, we have an enchanting cruise up the Bosphorus aboard a ferry. Day Four Our day starts at Hagia Eirene, one of the few Greek Orthodox Churches in the city that was not converted into a mosque. We continue on and visit the splendid Topkapı Palace, a magnificent legacy of the Ottoman sultans. Our afternoon is free for independent exploration. Day Five Today we cross the Golden Horn and enter Beyoğlu, or Pera, and then a tram ride takes us up to the renowned “Grand Rue de Pera”,

with a stop at Taksim Square. A gentle walk back down brings us to the Museum of Innocence and then we finish our day’s touring at Pera Museum. Day Six After breakfast, we start our journey back to London.

Day One Today we fly to Lyon and prepare for our afternoon of touring. In the evening, we join the A-ROSA Stella, which will gently guide us along the Rhône. Exclusive Andante excursion: We pay a visit to the Gallo-Roman Museum of LyonFourviere, where collections showcasing the area’s past are displayed. We also visit the stunning Roman theatre. Day Two After a morning at leisure, we travel from Viviers to the Ardeche. Afterwards we return to Viviers to sail onto Arles. Exclusive Andante excursion: In Ardèche, we visit the facsimile Cave of Chauvet II, which recreates the 36,000-year-old paintings discovered in 1994 and closed to the public ever since. This is the largest facsimile cave ever built and offers fullsized reproductions of the paintings of animals. Day Three We awake in Arles and set out early for a walk around this wonderful city, rich in history and artistic associations. Afterwards, we journey to Nîmes before rejoining our ship in Avignon.

Exclusive Andante excursion: We travel to Arles to visit the amphitheatre, theatre and the Roman necropolis of Alyscamps. We then proceed to Nîmes, another great centre of Roman life, where we explore the amphitheatre, the Roman temple known as the Maison Carrée, and the enthralling Musée de la Romanité. Finally, we make a stop at the iconic Pont du Gard. Day Four We spend the morning in Avignon, an imposing, historic city in southern France that was home to several of the Catholic popes at one time. We return to the ship for lunch and spend rest of the day cruising down the Rhône to Vienne. Exclusive Andante excursion: Visit the monumental Papal Palace, seat of the Avignon Popes during the so-called ‘Babylon captivity’ of the papacy from 1309-76. Day Five We spend the morning in Vienne, then proceed onto Lyon where we rejoin the A-ROSA Stella for our last night on board.

Day Six After breakfast on board, we transfer to Lyon airport for our return flight to London.
