Tchaikovsky’s Moscow with John Suchet Dates

Prices from

16th - 21st May

6 Days | £3,695 (sgl supp £595)

Join Classic FM’s beloved presenter John Suchet on this Russian adventure that invites us to discover the man behind the music. Born in Russia in 1840, Tchaikovsky revolutionised and reshaped the world of classical music with ballets that include The Nutcracker and Swan Lake, with operas such as Eugene Onegin and, of course, his monumental symphonies. Behind the glorious stories of his ballets and the soaring melodies he created, was a man who was deeply troubled. What’s more, there are still questions surrounding Tchaikovsky’s death – he died when he was just 53-years-old – and some experts even believe that he left a message for us in his final symphony. From the renowned Bolshoi Theatre, where we have secured private access to the backstage areas, to the very location where the composer wrote The Nutcracker – go in search of the real Tchaikovsky alongside award-winning presenter, reporter and author John Suchet. • A visit to the Tchaikovsky Museum, where we will enjoy a private piano recital

• Special backstage access at the historic Bolshoi Theatre

• Two opera performances • A guided tour of Moscow’s most iconic sights

Wexford Opera Festival Dates

Prices from

23rd - 27th Oct

If it were not for Compton Mackenzie, many an operatic masterpiece may have been forgotten. The writer, raconteur and commentator came up with the idea for the Wexford Opera Festival back in 1951 but wasn’t satisfied with it being just another opera event. From that first outing over 65 years ago to the present day, the Wexford Festival has operated on the same ideal - introducing audiences to neglected and unjustly overlooked works. Opera is no longer an escape for the elite only. So, join us in Wexford to discover operatic treasures within a wonderful ancient Viking town, nestled on the banks of the River Slaney. Here, we enjoy a personal meeting with a member of the festival himself, we are treated to a private tour of the city along with a visit to Selskar Abbey, and we get to attend a series of impressive performances. There will also be the opportunity to take part in a workshop led by local Irish musicians, who are devoted to the preservation of Ireland’s musical heritage. This tour offers a unique and exciting immersion into opera.
