handware AS/NZS Glove Standards General Requirements AS/NZS 2161.2:1998 (EN420) The EN420 standard defines the general requirements for ergonomy, glove construction, high visibility, innocuousness, cleaning, comfort and efficiency, marking and information, applicable to all protective gloves. • Glove design and construction is suitable for its intended use. • Any seams present in construction do not result in a significant decrease in product performance. • The gloves will not harm the health or hygiene of the user. • Glove sizing conforms to set specifications with respect to hand circumference. • Minimum glove lengths are specified for each size. • Gloves must be generally marked with trade mark or other identification of manufacturer/representative, product code name or code and size. • Instructions for use. • Packaging carries additional information as to where the product can be obtained and pictograms denoting performance levels against Standards as appropriate.

Protection against Mechanical Hazards AS/NZS2161.3:1998 (EN388)

Protection against Cold AS/NZ 2161.10.3:2005 (EN511) The EN511 standard defines the requirements and test methods for gloves which protect against convective or conductive cold down to -50°. This cold can be linked to climatic conditions or industrial activity.

The EN388 standard applies to all types of protective gloves with respect to mechanical aggression from abrasion, cutting, tearing and puncture. These ratings are calculated from laboratory test results and do not replace the actual testing of the product in real conditions in the field. The results also enable you to compare the performance between various products.

The EN374-3 standard involves determination of the resistance of the materials making up the gloves. Resistance to permeation is assessed by measuring the time for a chemical to breakthrough glove material. Samples are cut and placed in a permeation cell which enables the chemical to be placed in contact with the outer surface of the glove. Air or water is passed through the cell to collect any chemical that has broken through the inside surface of the glove. It is recommended to only use the test results, which have basically relative values, to compare the materials on the basis of the major categories of passage of time.

What is HDPU?

This is special yarn technology which wraps a glassfibre filament with polyamide yarn so that it’s not visible or in direct contact with the skin. Using high speed spinning machines, 3-4 layers of polyamide yarn are wrapped around the glassfibre core producing a yarn that is easy to knit or spin with other fibers. When spun with UHMW-PE (high tensile strength), it produces a very high cut resistance yarn which is used in our unique range of G-Force cut resistant gloves.

HDPU is High Density Polyurethane. Our unique HDPU coating uses environmentally friendly materials in its production and is more than 10 times higher abrasion resistant than normal PU, while offering far greater cut resistance. Its unique micro ventilated construction offers greater comfort over a longer period of time as well as being waterproof, durable and reuseable. Combined with Kenima® yarn in our G-Force gloves, they offer supreme comfort and cut resistance.

earware Maxisafe Hearing Protection It’s important to choose the right hearing protector for the right noise situation. Under the Australian Standard AS/NZS 1270:2002, the class system is a simple way to select a hearing protector appropriate to a noise exposure. Once the noise level in the work area has been assessed by a noise level survey, the table below can be used to select the appropriate hearing protector to ensure the correct level of protection at the given frequency. Choosing a hearing protector with a higher SLC80 than required will reduce the effectiveness of warning signals, conversations and any other acoustic communications. Class

Types of Hearing Protection Earplugs have the advantage of being able to be used with all other PPE items. Provided they are used correctly, they often exceed attenuation afforded by ear muffs. Corded versions for carrying around the neck and detectable plugs for use in the food industry are also available. Semi Aurals (banded earplugs) are ideal for supervisors and managers frequently moving in and out of noise hazardous areas, as they can be stored unobtrusively around the neck when not in use. Earmuffs are the traditional method of ear protection but the attenuation characteristics of each model need to be studied before a recommendation is made. Electronic ear muffs provide attenuation against loud noises but amplify weak external sounds such as speech.

Comfort The more comfortable you feel the longer you will be able to protect your ears against noise levels, which will destroy healthy ‘inner parts of the ear’. It is one thing to test an ear defender for 20 seconds but another wearing it most of the day. Comfort is the key. There is little use throwing away a hearing protection device with a headache 20 minutes after putting it on. To cut it short, don’t just refer to attenuation sheets, check on clamp pressure as well. The lower the tension the more comfortable you feel.

AIRBORNE HAZARDS DUSTS are airborne solid particles with variable dimensions, which are generated during crushing process of organic and inorganic solid substances e.g. drilling, sawing and sandblasting. MISTS are tiny liquid droplets that are formed from liquid materials by atomization and condensation processes such as spray painting. Available in both our specially formulated PVC/Nitrile Injection or 100% Polyurethane manufacturing processes, we offer the complete solution for your requirements whether it be in the food, agricultural, construction or industrial application. PVC/NITRILE BLEND Made from Ultra High-Grade Virgin PVC and blended with Nitrile, the Maxisafe PVC boots have been specially formulated for the correct work application. This is the most widely used material for manufacturing gumboots because of it’s resistance to solvents, mild acids, alkalis and some chemicals, oils and animal by-products. Will not crack at up to -15°C. POLYURETHANE Is a synthetic, foamed material consisting of two components: Polyol and isocyanate. Both are mixed together to result in an air bubble structure. The combination of the 2 materials lies at the origin of PU’s dual nature being flexible as well as strong and durable. The raw material used in the Maxisafe PULIGHT is specially formulated for the most severe working conditions and heavy industry to ensure superior longevity and comfort.
